Before getting this wooden turner I guess I didn't realize wooden spoons and utensils could be so nice! Compared to this one, all my other wooded spoons seem so sad. This wooden turner is thick and sturdy but light weight which makes for a really comfortable grip. The wood itself is very smooth and well made which makes it easy to clean, comfortable to hold, and seems like it will really last a long time. I will definitely be replacing my other wooden utensils with OXO products as soon as possible!

I was hoping this would be like a spatula. It works well for flipping food, but it's hard to press on the food like a spatula. I wish there was a bigger angle like a spatula. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it properly. For example, I wanted to press down on my French toast a bit, but the paddle part was hard to get it all on the bread because there wasn't much of an angle from the handle. Anyway, it's durable, easy to wash, and it's sturdy. If it were shaped more like a regular spatula, I would've given it 5 stars.

Super excited to find a wooden spatula! Really good quality. Worked well for eggs and pancakes. These do not have a varnish or anything on them so you’ll need to treat it with mineral oil. Mineral oil is inexpensive and easy to apply. Apply a layer with a paper towel then wait overnight or at least a few hours. Do it once a month or more if you like. Do not let wooden utensils soak in water or they won’t last as long. It may seem like a pain but I promise the maintenance is super easy and so worth it. Wooden utensils and cutting boards are worth it.

I love this spatula. It’s got a simple design, I like that it’s made from a natural material. I’m certain we are not supposed to put it in the dishwasher but we do and it’s held up well. Great for the price.
This is raw bamboo. It has not been oiled. I understood that as it was made clear in the description. If you have any wood utensils, or want them...you must have mineral oil or olive oil on hand as they need regular "seasoning"...same as cast iron or ceramic cookware. I rubbed in mineral oil three times over, upon getting this home. I let it sit overnight and then rubbed in more mineral oil two more times. At this point, it was ready to use. I've used this for cooking eggs, flipping burgers, and scooping potatoes on aluminium. This is perfectly adapted for each task and I have no issues cleaning it. If there are issues with food sticking, it needs to be completely cleaned off and seasoned multiple times. If you get in the habit of seasoning it with some mineral oil, ... MoreThis is raw bamboo. If there are issues with food sticking, it needs to be completely cleaned off and seasoned multiple times. If you get in the habit of seasoning it with some mineral oil, coconut, or olive about once a month or once a week, if you use the tool often, this won't become an issue. The oil does need to soak in for hours...not just rubbed in and then try to use immediately. A good wood tool will only become easier to use and better seasoned with time. Additionally, if you want your wood tools to last, just like good quality ceramic pans or cast iron...only ever handwash. Dishwashers spray everything with such a hard pressure...in addition to the harshness of the cleaners they use, they will pit these wooden utensils, just like they pit and destroy the nonstick properties of good, ceramic pans. I'm going to purchase another for backup.
This is a heavy duty wood turner. I also have the spoon from the same OXO line. Some things to consider:They take up more room in the drawer, as they are high quality wood, a bit bulkier, due to the thickness and they have a rougher surface than bamboo turners. It's great that the wood is not coated or factory treated - they seem to be raw wood. They do come with a rougher surface, but this allows you the flexibility to treat with whatever oil you choose. I have used mineral oil or butcher block conditioner. Be sure to select an oil or conditioner that is food safe, of course. The first couple months I wasn't thrilled with the roughness, which made it more difficult to clean, but once I treated it, I began to like this turner. Be aware, they will absorb a lot of oil/treatment the first couple times. The first time, I let them absorb overnight. Then reapplied and wiped off the excess the next day. Generously rub it on and let it absorb fully a couple times. They will start to repel liquids and not absorb food colors and flavors as much. Treating them will help them last a lifetime, preventing the wood from splitting and splintering.I recommend them.
Upon receiving this spatula, I realized it needed to be treated with minearal oil to prevent it from absorbing liquids and swelling/splintering. I spent several days oiling it (rubbed oil and let it dry for 24 hours, repeat) and then hand washed it before use. I used it on a stir fry and could not get the food odor out of the spatula. I tried hand washing and placing in dishwasher. I will try rubbing with lemon and/or baking soda but it's too much work to deodorize and oil after each use. Too bad as it is sturdy and looks great. But I will continue to rely on my low-maintenance silicone and stainless steel spatulas.
I tried the large wooden spatula by OXO for my new pots and pans. They are nonstick pans and if you use metal, they scratch the surface off the pots and pans and then everything sticks to the surface. With this spatula, you can stir anything without worrying about destroying your pots and pans. I love to use this spatula when I fry ground beef or turkey. It allows me to chop the meat into smaller pieces. The spatula is made from high quality wood and is extra thick so you don't have to worry about it breaking during use. I highly recommend the Large Wooden Spatula from OXO.
I received the Wooden Turner to review for my honest opinion. Very smooth feeling. Not heavy at all. It is thick. But not in a bulky kind of way. It stirs as intended. It's perfect for stir fry and sauces. It washes up pretty well with minor staining from sauces like spaghetti. I do like the smooth feeling as well as the hole in the end to hang it up. Very nice design. Made very well. I'm impressed with how fancy it looks.
I particularly like this type of utensil. It's shape is good for stirring, scraping and turning; this one is comfortable in the hand and is good to use. Maybe a little thick in the blade, but that may make it harder wearing...
