I’ve had this for about a year now. It worked well the first few times I used it, but the blades don’t seem to last very long and after a while it ends up struggling to cut material and just gets clogged instead. It’s cheap but not good value. I’ve had to unclog it several times now and it is NOT easy to do since there is no opening to get to the blades and they’ve designed it so that getting to the blades requires disassembly, which is very difficult. The blades will quickly wear down and you cannot simply replace them. Even though they’ve designed it that way, a cloggage is considered “wear and tear” and is not covered under the warranty terms. So not only have they designed it so that you can’t get to the blades to unclog them yourself, they will also not unclog ... MoreI’ve had this for about a year now. Buy a better brand even if it’s a tad more expensive. This one isn’t worth the hassle.

Only had this a day but so far it compares favourably with the 2400W Ryobi it replaced. Construction is lighter but I think the cut product is better, and its $130 cheaper. Assembling is OK, only do up the nut half way when putting the legs on so the axle will fit, I was careful not to overtighten at the end because it looks like it would be easy to strip the nuts. Job is a lot easier if you have a ratchet socket. The only real negative and reason it lost a star is its really easy to block the bottom chute, whereas on the Ryobi it was the top that blocked all the time. It has a bag instead of the awkward plastic drawer on the Ryobi. When the chute clogs on twiggy stuff its safe to put your fingers in the chute to drag it out because you can't reach the blades, but ... MoreOnly had this a day but so far it compares favourably with the 2400W Ryobi it replaced. It has a 3 year warranty which is pretty good.

Great mulcher. I bought this one for my dad. I have had mine for 3 years and it just does what it says it will time after time no fuss. I bought mine after borrowing a mates and been so impressed had to get my own. Note this is an impact type mulcher so it has a large cog that crushers and cuts the branch against a steel side plate. The end result is little chunks about 50cent coin size. Some times if the material is very green the mulcher will pump out the branch crushed with the chunks still join together. Sometimes this means a simple adjustment to bring the cog closer to the impact plate and it starts cutting chunks off again. Or I just put it back through for a second treatment. Overall I have put some branches down the shoot I never thought it would grind but did it easy. Some times it jammed (oversized branch) but is easy to clear. Only recommendation get hold of a tub or bucket to collect chips coming from the Shute. The bag is mmmm not the best. I usually mulch directly where I want the mulch to go. So yes recommend this item ( note this is for rigid branches and sticks not long strappy type leaves or plants as these just squish up and get tangled around the cog, yes I tried it)

An earlier version (with the same motor and cutter) is still serving me well after 12 years. It really does shred cabbage tree leaves and flax. It also chops quite big twigs into 15 to 30 mm lengths. Now that isn't as pretty as with a high speed blade mulcher (I have one of those too) but that's a high maintenance tool compared to the shredder. The Ozito needs only a squirt of CRC before putting away. The Ozito is the one that's always ready to go. And while the Ozito's chips do take longer to break down than slices from a blade, they are nevertheless immediately reduced in volume. They do eventually become fully separated piece of mulch: light and easy to move around with a leaf rake.
We’ve had this for 6 years and it’s done a lot of work. Don’t expect fine mulch not great with string pieces. What it produces is very useful. The machine is very reliable and pretty easy to clear in the rare event it gets stuck. We’re replacing our unit with another one because the adjusting bolt stripped and can’t be replaced without special tools. Should have spray lubed it regularly otherwise maintenance free.
Had the previous model for about 5y, used it occasionally, and it worked reasonably well. But today it started making grinding noises. Tried to pull it apart, and found that the top half of the machine is fastened with tri wing screws, down deep holes. In addition to that, There is a small rubber ball stuffed down two of the holes, to make very sure you won't get all the screws out, even if you have a foot long tri wing (impossible to get). So after 2h of effort, which included making my own tools, I got it apart, to find there is no bearing on the cutting wheel. The shaft is just poked into a hole in the frame. So whatever grease was put there originally, is long gone, and with no way to oil it (the housing has no holes in that location) the shaft just grinds ... MoreHad the previous model for about 5y, used it occasionally, and it worked reasonably well. Of course the average user will never know this, because of the extreme lengths the manufacturer has gone to, to hide his crimes, and will just assume it's worn out and GO AND BUY A NEW ONE!
I had a good Ozito shredder/mulcher for many years before replacing it with this model - the Ozito 2400w Silent Shredder. The current model is not as good quality as the earlier model because it constantly gets blocked, unless you are hand pulling stuff out through the bottom chute, which is plastic and too narrow, When it blocks, it turns itself off and you have to turn it upside down to dig out the blockage. It does ok with old dry twigs but cannot deal with leaves or freshly cut wood, which are squeezed and crushed into long stringy bits, not mulched and will often get pulled back into the grinding wheel. This means the inlet feeder and outlet chute both get blocked. So, mostly silent because it is mostly blocked. So I returned the Ozito to Bunnings for a refund and upgraded to a Ryobi Crushing Shredder, which is a far superior and less frustrating product.
I needed a shredder to get rid of hedge trimmings, and clean up around a suburban garden. First use, get rig of metre high celery bushes that had gone to seed. Tough job as celery was so stringy. bottom chute gets blocked easily, but safe enough to unclog while running. Next job trim trees. Chopped this to pieces about 25mm long. Then recently soft hedge clippings. the trick is to keep the bottom chute clear and don't try to stuff too much in at the same time. It's quieter than I imagined it would be. I use a big bucket, one of those soft ones with the 2 handles that Bunnings sell for about $5.00 instead of the soft bag that comes with the unit. Works great on palm and everything else. Had no real issues with the product when it comes to shredding for over 2 years now. There is a huge design flaw, though. The Outlet chute is stupidly designed too narrow, which clogs up all the time and bogged the system up. You have to constantly make sure it's clear. I'm wondering what the reason behind this, it's an outlet chute - make it big. Looks like the current model still the same. For what I need it works fine. Would I recommend it, hard to say. It's quite troublesome to use as you constantly have to unclogged the outlet chute but it does shred well.
I have had two off these shredders and today i bought a third one which i assembled and have just operated. It would appear as if the drive shaft or the cutting spool is out of alignment and as such is not cutting correctly and there is grinding noise coming from the unit. Consquently the unit is not silent as indicated on the box and probably is caused by the misalignment or something similar. Special attention was given to the instruction re the setting off the backing plate and the rotating spool. As a matter off interest the other two units lasted for about five years in each case and ultimately failed due to electrical issues. It will be interesting to see what happens now.
