Relieved to report that my impulsive jump from the Fuji X-T4 to the Lumix S5 has been a big success.The S5 has much better ergonomics + handling and is basically the same size as the X-T4, which is remarkable considering it's full-frame. The JPEG engine is also great (Portrait color profile is my favorite).On the video front, I love that the S5 IBIS allows for such smooth handheld footage and that I don't have to worry about overheating, an issue I consistently ran into with my X-T4 and X-S10. I picked an S5 up from B&H after a lot of reading and comparing different models. The S5 is hardly perfect. No camera is, really. But for what I need and want, it's as close to perfect as you can get. The camera produces excellent images, clarity, color, dynamic range is hard to beat at the price point, and the in camera pre amps are the best I've ever had. I shoot in all weather, lots of different lighting conditions, and in lots of fast paced settings where it's run and gun shooting, as well as planned out shots. I personally see no reason to complain about that when most lack it entirely. While I don't like the mini HDMI port is has, and wish it had the full HDMI like the S1H, it's not the end of the world, and I do find the in camera 10 bit 4:2:2 4K to be more than enough for my YouTube and professional work.

I had been using a Sony crop sensor a6100 with some great glass and thought it was unbeatable. I decided it was time to upgrade to full frame and did a ton of research. It came down to a Nikon Z5 or a Panasonic S5. On a limb, I went with the Panasonic. After using it for several days, I could not be happier with my decision. This camera is well built. It has a nice heft to it and just feels like it is made of the highest quality materials. The options are endless and the images turn out wonderful. I primarily shoot still images but this camera is future proof if you do a lot of video.

The autofocus is widely know to be inferior to that off the other camera titans but for stills however, its very good. I wanted to learn and master the art of manual focusing, and the Panasonic S5 will forced me to take my shots with more thought. I have only owned Sony cameras and relied heavily on their god tiered autofocus, dooming myself in the process by stopping my growth as a photographer. I wanted more control of my pictures.The L-mount ecosystem is starting to grow and the 20-60 kit lens is fantastic. I can't really speak for the video features on it, even though that's where most of its strengths lie within, but it's nice knowing it's capable of being a lite cinema camera. All for $2000 is quite the steal! I love it.

The only thing holding it back is the buggy wifi connection + iOS app. I need this to function and it's glitchy 25% of the time. This results in restarting my phone and camera in order to fix this issue. As a professional real estate photographer & videographer, I love this camera! Using the lumix app on my phone has been much more pleasurable/useful than other manufacturers mobile app. The 4k live crop feature that creates a video clip with movement in it has been a surprisingly useful tool for B roll.The amount of customizability is incredible... there are more than enough custom setting modes than I'll ever need.Shooting manual focus lenses is pretty easy with it's focus peaking and ability to zoom in 200% to nail critical focus... I love how it will ask you what the focal length is when turning it on when there is an adapted lens on and then allows you to tell it so that it can get the stabilization right.... Ibis is fantastic...Another feature that I love is when using a zoom lens it can show you what mm you are on... so if you want to constantly get/use a certain focal length... it's easy to reliably do so as it will show 35mm or 24mm etc... in evf/screen.The advanced video features are more than I will ever use... I've really enjoyed learning and using waveforms to consistently nail my video exposure.All in all... happy with my purchase after almost a year of use... If you can deal with the 2 pain points I mention at the top of the review... save yourself some money... get this camera used and use the left over money to travel somewhere and get amazing photos/videos!One other thing that could be a pain point for most... but it's not for me and really is getting better... is the lens selection... the catalog isn't as developed as something like Sony... but the key go to lenses for the L mount are mostly there now...
This camera paired with Lumix S pro 24-70 or Sigma 24-70 art lens is real deal for video makers. Image stabilization is fantastic. I have never had a chance to enjoy handheld filming so much before. And you don't have to break a bank to buy expensive cards.I edit lots of footage coming from people using latest Mirrorless cameras from other makers and non of the footage comes close to what I see from this camera especially in image stabilization department. It makes editors life much easier too.
