A compact powerhouse!

I bought this camera for a couple of reasons: One was to be able to share lenses with my BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and use as my b-roll camera. The other was to have a good camera for photos. It fulfills both those functions admirably. The included 14-42mm kit lens gives excellent images and the addition of larger aperture lenses (25mm f1.4 and 15mm f1.7) allow beautiful portraiture and landscapes. Where it really shines for me though is video. With the kit lens I get excellent 4k video. With faster lenses I get amazing footage. In conjunction with the BMPCC4K I have all I need for interviews and performance recording.

Awesome dual purpose camera! Great for beginners.

When I bought this camera I was just starting out in photography. This camera has done me really good. The durability is top notch, although it’s not weather sealed or dust sealed, this camera can take a fall. I dropped the camera and lens from 10ft and not a search or nothing, and it fell on concrete. The quality is great. When you zoom in it’s not as good but that because of the megapixels on the camera. Fast auto focus, and when I say fast, extremely fast. Maybe not as fast as the Sony A7IV but still crazy fast. This camera does great everything photography. I’m not a videographer but WOW this camera is awesome for filmmaking. I mean great. This camera is super lightweight and easy to carry around. The ISO is kinda to much just at 1600, but I’ve never had a different camera so I don’t know if that is bad or not. It also depends on your availability during skills as well. This camera does not let you really have a preview mode for the picture without pressing buttons (again idk if all cameras have that).Overall great fairly priced camera for any purpose.

What I will do is highlight the things I really like about the G7 and what I wish I had known before I bought the camera. What I wish I had known...I whish I had known that the camera was not splash/dust proof.I wish I was aware that the G7 does not have a 5 Axis stabilization.I wish this camera had built it geotagging (You can geo tag by creating a gps log on your phone and then matching it to the pictures on the camera, but I have tried multiple times and so far I have not been successful in getting the data matched...screen says it completed, but the geo tagged data does not appear to be attached to the images).I wish I head read more about the G7 autofocus abilities. The autofocus is slow...I cannot sugar coat it. I am having terrible issues while shooting videos keeping things in focus...things go in and out of focus and sometimes it is PAINFULLY long for the focus to be reacquired. After doing more research I found this to be a very common complaint with the G7...especially if the user is attempting to zoom in. Combine that with the stabilization issues and the video is not that great unless I have mounted the camera on a mono/tripod.The last thing which is not a huge issue, but I wish I had known has to do with video length...the video length is limited to 30 minutes. On to the good: I like the feel of the G7, it is much lighter than my Alpha. The G7 feels as if it is constructed well. The buttons and nobs appear well placed. The photographs are decent, but I would say thay are on par with my Alpha, not really an improvement.I tend to shoot a lot of interview style videos, which is where the 30 minute limit has hit me, and the camera mic is pretty good. I have ordered a new Rode mic which will utilize the shoe and the mic in port.My takeaway, the G7 was launched in 2015, and the technology is reminicent of its age. As I started second guessing my purchase I found multiple options that contained all of those features that I wish the G7 had...but at the same or minimally higher price points. What prompted me to write the review today is the multiple hours I have invested into trying to fix the autofocus issues in my videos and the simple fact that it appears to the camera driving them.

Crazy Bargain

As a Panny shooter, I had anticipated this would be an incremental bump from my last camera. BOY was I wrong. Even at its current age the G7 seems able to hold its own. Image quality is impressive out of the box, and improves with better lenses. Shooting modes, color profiles and customizations make this a tiny powerhouse. Add 4K video capability and still or video you have a winner. The kit lenses punch measurably above their weight, although they do whet one's appetite for more. The 45-150 is especially travel-friendly - one reason I picked up the kit - and the 14-42 is more than adequate for everyday shooting or street photography.I'm giving four stars here strictly for the lack of IBIS in the G7 body. Great Experience
8 June 2023

Wanted to get a nice camera for graduation pictures but not sure which one so looked into renting. I was a little aprehensive renting an expensive piece of equipment. Read reviews on couple and decided to go with Lensrentals. I love the experience, the camera came in a very sturdy box and packaged well. Return was a breeze too. Only thing is I wish they would have sent the email reminder 48 hours before the due return date. Everything else was perfect.

Great camera for streaming
22 January 2021

I am a complete amateur when it comes to camera and photography, but I wanted a good camera for streaming and video. After reading many reviews and looking at cameras in my budget, I decided on the LUMIX G7. So far, this has been a great camera, and I’m satisfied with the video quality. there is a bit of a learning curve as the DSLR have many different settings, but it’s nothing you can’t learn from one of the many YouTube videos about the G7. If you are going for photography, you may want to look into other options, though this camera isn’t bad at taking pictures by any stretch. Bear in mind that in order to use this camera as a webcam, you will also need to purchase something like the Elgato CamLink and an HDMI-to-microHDMI cable. You will also want to invest in a power supply so as to not be constantly running on the camera battery. Happy streaming!

Great option for a high quality camcorder.
2 April 2021

I got this camera primarily to increase the production value of my YouTube channel (I paired it with an Elgato CamLink 4K capture card and it works just fine). So far I am very impressed with the camera's abilities as a high quality camcorder. This review will primarily discuss its abilities as a camcorder (meaning its HDMI output goes to my computer) instead of a dedicated camera, although I will talk about it some. Also, I only use it in 1080p mode for recording in OBS, so keep that in mind.Pros:- Very easy to use. It was very much plug & play.- Clean HDMI output (which was a must for me).- Video quality is excellent in 1080p60. It gave me everything that I wanted. It was very much plug & play.- Clean HDMI output (which was a must for me).- Video quality is excellent in 1080p60. It gave me everything that I wanted. Note that this camera alone will not give you studio quality recordings, but paired with good lighting it works really well.- Camera doesn't have an auto shutdown, which makes sure that it continues recording no matter how long you are trying to use it as a camcorder.- Picture quality seems acceptable. This is my first "real" camera, so I can't say much other than I really do like the quality of the pictures it takes.- Came with basic accessories (shoulder strap, lens hood, lens cap).Cons:- No autofocus when working in camcorder mode. This one is pretty annoying, and as far as I know there's no way of adding it. So if you want to use this as a camcorder and record a dynamic subject, you will have to half-press the shutter button to get it to refocus. For me this wasn't a huge issue, but I can see how it would be for some.- I've heard that in 4K recording the audio can get out of sync with the video. I haven't used 4K recording, and in my setup this would be a nonissue, but I thought it was worth mentioning if you are not using this as a camcorder.Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase. If you are going to use this as a webcam, then I suggest getting an AC adapter so you don't have to be limited by the battery life of the camera, as well as the CamLink 4K to get full use from this camera.

Great quality video to your kit without draining the wallet.
8 February 2023

Why did I buy an older G7 in 2023? Great value in a light and small package with a great kit lens. I already have a full Sony set up for still photography, but needed a video set up. And for the price of 1 new Sony video body, I could get TWO G7's with lenses. Seemed like easy math to me. And after using these cameras for a few weeks now I KNOW I made the right choice. I'm really impressed with the quality video I get from the Lumix.

Lumix DMC-G7W is a very capable camera
10 April 2023

Very capable camera, it can be fully automatic, or fully manual. I love the size and weight, ease of use, and the 2 kit zoom lenses. I bought a kit with 2 extra batteries and charger to never be out of battery. I also bought an adapter so I can use my 3 excellent Nikon lenses from the 1980, to be used in aperture priority mode and manual focus. I love the sharpness and color of the photos I have taken, as well as 4K video at 30 fps, and the great 1080P (HD) videos at 60 fps. Take your time reading the user manual and watching YouTube videos about how to use the camera.

I have been through, what seems like, 5,987 cameras.
