I disagree with there first point; ok, so its not got the heft of a Leica, but it still feels a premium build and the optics ARE very good. I find the autofocus does 'hunt' a bit, in some lighting conditions, but for my type of shooting that isn't a problem.At a price of circa 25% of the Leica equivalent, the quality and package is remarkable. recommended.

I bought this lens to have a relatively fast 50mm and affordable lens for my SL2. I would add that this lens is also light weight and balance well on my SL2.Wide open at f1.8 images are a little soft including in the center. Stopped down just a taste, to f2, and the center sharpens up nicely.While this lens does provide ample Bokeh, small areas such as leaves, can appear busy and choppy when viewed on-screen at 100%.Otherwise this lens, for the money, performs well. I would recommend this lens to someone using an SL2 (and probably an original SL).

This is a terrific lens for general everyday photography. I keep it mounted on my main camera for quick use. It is much lighter than my zoom lens and my variable. So, it jumped into the number one spot for everyday use. Glass quality and clarity seem great for the price. I am happy with this purchase.

That lens configuration is imo too unique to be coincidence, esp. given Panasonic and Leica's relationship. I own the lens, it's fantastic, and imo it's the Leica Summicron I could never cost-justify to own. But regardless, whether it's a Summicron or not hardly matters. It's a fantastic lens. One of the very best 50's I've owned and I've owned a slew of them over the years from Pentax, Nikon, Canon, Yashica, Minolta, and (yes) even a Leica.
Image quality is good. I like that it is sharp wide open, no need to stop down to improve IQ. Very lightweight, thanks to the cheap plastic build (will it last as long as my metal lenses? Time will tell).VERY tight fit when screwing on/off the camera, much tighter than my 85mm or 20-60 lenses. Makes me nervous that I will damage the weather sealing ring, but it seems fine so far.I bought this lens hoping it would have improved autofocus performance over my other 2 L mount lenses, but no, its just as slow to focus as all the others.That being said, its a nifty 50 with good image quality for a decent price, so Ill keep it for now. Will probably trade it for the 24 or 35mm whenever they are released.

It is exceedingly sharp wide-open and has some of the most pleasing rendering I have ever seen, even when compared to Leica-Certified Lumix lenses I have owned in the past.I was worried that f1.8 would not be shallow enough for my needs, but this lens renders out of focus areas beautifully - it is always silky smooth and never busy, even when shooting in visually-dense woodland environments at a medium distance. The transitions between in-focus and out of focus areas are beautiful. This lens has definitely surpassed my expectations. We are a production house that has several S1, S1H, and S5s on gimbals in the field every day. I'm aware of the obvious advantages of native glass, but I did not expect this lens to outperform our adapted Canon 50mm 1.2 lenses; however, it does, by a significant margin. The autofocus performance is noticeably better than the 85mm and 20-60mm, both of which are surprisingly good. This lens is a no-brainer for video work... We don't do a lot of stills work, so I'll defer to others more knowledgeable than I on that front. In short, I'm not ready to offload my Canon glass yet... but this lens gets me one giant step closer. It's honestly been like a fine wine, giving me more and more joy the longer I have it. I don't think I'll ever stop using this baby.
This is a must have prime in every full frame Lumix shooters bag! The classic 50 f1.8 is perfect for getting the dreamy bokeh, and at 2.8 is one of the sharpest lenses on the planet. The autofocus is perfect with the S5 II and iix, and since this lens is the same size and weight as the other S Line of primes they are soo easy to swap on a rig without any fuss. Get this lens… and get it from LensRentals as they are amazing, and came in last minute to save our shoot!
