Panasonic Lumix S Pro 24-70mm F2.8 Lens

The LUMIX S PRO 24-70mm F2.8 (S-E2470) is a large-aperture standard zoom lens that boasts high descriptive performance across the entire zoom range. The optical performance of this LUMIX S PRO lens is remarkably high to clear stringent LEICA standards. Ensuring versatile use for landscapes, snaps and portraits with its 24-70mm focal length, the LUMIX S PRO 24-70mm F2.8 features stunningly high resolution and high contrast at each focal length point. The full-range F2.8 high-speed aperture provides smooth defocus gradation from the focus peak to the neighboring area of the image to achieve a beautiful bokeh effect as well as a rich perspective. Comprising 18 lenses in 16 groups, the use of 3 aspherical lenses and 4 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses effectively suppresses both axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration of magnification. Astigmatism is also corrected with these aspherical lenses, achieving high resolving performance. Furthermore, a UHR (Ultra-High Refractive Index) lens achieves uniform image quality from the center to edges of the image while contributing to downsizing of the lens unit. A double focus system combining a linear motor and a stepping motor achieves sensor drive at a maximum speed of 480 fps. This realizes fast, high-precision AF to ensure that a photo opportunity is never missed. Adoption of a focus clutch mechanism enables instant AF/MF switching and accurate manual focusing. The LUMIX S PRO 24-70mm F2.8 also excels in video recording performance with a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing, which was a fatal problem in all interchangeable lenses designed for still image photography. The rugged dust/splash-resistant design withstands use under harsh conditions even at 10 degrees below zero for high mobility. The filter diameter is 82 mm, with an 11-blade circular aperture diaphragm.

We had a little snag with the shipping company (fedex) but the lenses got here on time for my wedding shoot! They were even nice enough to let me keep the lenses a few extra days which was awesome. Talked to me and kept me updated the whole time. Highly recommend!

Beautiful lens and terrific, reliable

Beautiful lens and terrific, reliable service on the Lensrental end.Only thing is that I found the lens to be so much bigger and heavier than I had imagined.Guess I should have read a bit more about it.

Beautiful lens with easy switch to manual or autofocus

This lens is first class! I love the way manual focusing can be engaged so easily while framing the shot. I just got a Lumix S5 and this lens works so well with the camera. When engaging manual focus, the viewfinder enlarges the focus area beautifully to ensure perfect manual focus.

Best Zoom Lens Ever!!
27 July 2020

I am familiar with using 24-70mm f2.8 zooms which I've used on my EOS R... Yet I typically prefer primes. However, the LUMIX S PRO 24-70mm f2.8 on my LUMIX DC-S1 has changed my mind about about zoom lenses. This lens is the perfect zoom lens. Beautiful image quality, sharpness, chromatic aberrations, distortion, build quality, rendering, bokeh, it's truly an amazing top of it's class 24-70 f2.8 zoom lens.I have no complaints. This lens is worth the price. Buy it and be done with it. This is the 1 lens that will be glued on my camera for 99% of the time.P.S. I also like how the lens doesn't extend outward until around 30mm and even at 70mm it doesn't stick out too far. Great design.

Great All around Lens! Could be better with the f stop limitation.

The range is perfect for m43 format, and the f/2.8 aperture helps is lower light setups. The image is clean, no obvious visible chromatic aberrations. The lens maintains a great geometry throughout the range. Pretty good for video too, it focuses really fast and the zoom range associated with the crop factor makes it an excellent lens for handheld operations. The bonus is the OIS, it does help smooth out micro shakes. Improvements: I wish Panasonic and Olympus could be a bit more up to date with people's needs. An f/1.8 or f/1.4 constant aperture, parfocal zoom lens with OIS is what most dslr videographers and event photographers would call an amazing and versatile low light lens.. If sigma can do it, why can't they?

It's a very bright and sharp lens
28 June 2021

Used on a Panasonic S1h. With the exception of not having any image stabilization built-in, it's everything I could've wanted. Sharp, bright, fast, and with none of the chromatic aberration of the Canon lens I was using before. A bit pricey, but good glass usually is. Pretty happy with my purchase.

This lens compliments the Panasonic GH series quite well. I shoot video with the Panasonic Lumix GH3 and this 12-25mm lens is a great lens to own. It's compact in size and has a very durable build to it. Both the zoom and focus rings are extremely smooth. With a built in OIS (image stabilizer), handheld shooting delivers an incredible steady shot (within reason of course). I discovered the secret ingredient to achieving such a clean and crisp image with this lens paired with the GH3 is as follows: (With good to excellent lighting) In Video Mode: 1. Set the camera (GH3) to "High" iDynamic and "High" iResolution 2. Set the image profile to "Standard" using -5 contrast, -2 sharpness, 0 saturation, -5 noise reduction 3. Use a f/2.8 aperture 4. Use aperture priority in menu selection (camera will auto set shutter speed and ISO) in good lighting the auto ISO settings work great. I typically shoot 24p 72Mbps ALL-INTRA MOV But I suggest you use your discretion as to the Recording Quality that appeals to you best for your needs. ***Please note that these settings work best when shooting people at a close to reasonable distance. These settings yield a very sharp/crisp image and shooting too far away from the subject will lead to unwanted aliasing and moire effects. If you are looking for a less sharpened image, i suggest not using the "High" iDyanmic & "High" iResolution settings. Or, use color grading techniques that will soften the image in post production if you use the "High" settings. All in all, this lens is great for videos and photos. I recommend you own this lens if you have a GH series camera.

Smooth Ramping Aperture!
30 March 2020

Optically, this is absolutely as good any 24-70 can be. Its excellent. The zoom ring feels great. The focus ring with clutch also feels perfect. One of the most important things is that the 24-70 lens does NOT stair-step its aperture the way the Sigma version does. If you are running in auto aperture, this aperture will SMOOTHLY open and close just like a true camcorder lens does. I had the Sigma 24-70 native L Mount but was forced to return that do to its aperture design flaw. ( I talked to Sigma and they confirmed this problem) This made me spend the extra money to upgrade to this Lumix lens. I'm VERY happy with this Lumux 24-70 lens...but yes, it is extremely expensive compared to the Sigma version.

Stunning quality

I just moved from Sony to Panasonic for the S1H from my A7R3. The Sony I only used for stills, the Panasonic I use for both still and my Video Production company, that use to use Sony FS7 MK2.This glass is as nice as Sony GM 2.8 24-70. It is sharp, well built, smooth controls, and great mid focal range. Now I am waiting on the S Pro 16-35, and 70-200 Panasonic to get me started. You will not be disappointed.
