This was my first Pat McGrath purchase and I’m obsessed with it. I’ve almost exclusively used this eyeshadow since I bought it a year ago. The formulas are amazing and unparalleled. The mattes are creamy and blend so well and the astral blitz shades are mesmerizing. The peachy pink-gold duo chrome is so so beautiful. That colour is really the show-stopper for me. I found all the shadows pretty easy to work with even though I’m fairly novice. The shimmer shades work best applied with your finger. I bought this palette because it was neutral yet still so unique from other palettes on the market and I’m so happy I took the plunge even though it was expensive. I want everything Pat McGrath now!

I purchased the Limited Edition Rose Chrome Case version of Mothership 8 : Divine Rose 2 at full price for $125 excluding taxes, specifically because of the VR Sextraterrestial shade that changes from dark brown to green to pink depending on how the light hits it. You can turn your head and have bright green, or bright pink! Turn another way and it looks dark green/brown! For this shade alone is why I give it 4/5. The Rose Chrome case is so pretty and just compliments the packaging and color palette. It’s elegant and it’s not just the pay off of the make up but the presentation that makes it so luxurious and worth the price. It’s quite a versatile palette as well and it’s quite pigmented. I have a few different Pat Magrath Palettes and I love all of them. This Devine Rose II palette is a cool romantic dream. So many shades to love in this cool toned collection, perfect for going to work or glamorous evenings out. This collection has the best mix of buttery matte shades, smooth shimmers, and a gorgeous chromatic shade. I love the way PM shadows apply, they go on so smooth, so easily, that blending them out is a dream. The pigmentation of these shades is good, buildable to create soft or dramatic looks of your choosing. There little to no fallout with these shadows and they have long lasting power. No fading, colors stay true and look good all day long. This is a nice cool toned palette, with dreamy shades of soft rose and golds. I was lucky enough to get this on sale but I have paid full price for other Pat Magrarh palettes and they are worth the price. It’s a good investment to have high quality products that make me feel happy and look forward to putting them on.

I don’t own any other PM eyeshadows but my husband purchased this palette (at my request) for Christmas. I have always heard from others how “divine” PM eyeshadows are to blend. Over a few weeks, I have opened the package and admired the shades and even (GASP) worked up to swatching the shades last week. I do not consider myself particularly talented at applying eyeshadow, so I was intimidated to actually try application and use up some of this very expensive product! I usually prefer very simple, albeit sparkly, eye looks, as I find sparkles can be very forgiving where technique is lacking. I was very pleasantly surprised with how easily the shadows blended. They had a creamy quality that laid color down in an opaque layer but were able to move and blend. They had a creamy quality that laid color down in an opaque layer but were able to move and blend. It was a little bit confusing to select colors for this eye look because — due to the shadows being so dimensional — they can swatch a different color than what appears in the pan. I decided to blend and build up Velouria in my crease (and slightly above, since I have hooded eyes). I also smudged that shade in my outer lower waterline. I then used Rose Dusk to deepen the outer V. I needed a flat brush to really build this shade up. I then use a clean brush to really blend those shades up toward my brown bone. The look really came together with VR Rose Venus applied all over the lid with my finger. That shade has a beautiful magenta-yellow shift that I was not suspecting to love so much on my hazel-green eyes! The final touch was Skinshow Nude in the inner corner to brighten things up. It was probably the only shadow I used that was a bit underwhelming. Overall, I am so happy with how the look turned out! The pigmented shades were so forgiving and I am excited to play around with the other shades. I feel more confident playing with this pallet now that I know the hype about PM eyeshadow’s blending abilities is rooted in truth! Both photos are in front of a window in natural light. I am also testing the Shiseido Radiant Lifting Foundation in 220 Linen (a smidge too dark) in these photos.

Mixed feelings

Packaging is beautiful! It is sturdy black, bit heavy (I wouldn't travel with this for risk it may break), but feels luxurious. When looking at this palette, I thought it would be easy to create a look, but it was more challenging than I thought. Let's start off with my least favorite color, GILTY PLEASURE. It is not pigmented at all and very hard, I tried it wet, dry, applying with my finger, and then finally over a dark brown MAC paint pot and it finally showed. It required way too much work. Xtreme Aubergine swatches beautifully, however when I blended it the color seemed to disappear (this is over Urban Decay primer eyeshadow potion). I had to keep dipping my brush into it and re-blending. Disobedient (matte) blended a lot better than Xtreme Aubergine. Blitz ... MorePackaging is beautiful! Blitz Flame is strongly pigmented and would like fabulous on brown eyes, but I have green eyes and had trouble making this work. I played around with it and put it in the crease with Rose Gold 005 and smoked it out on my lower last line and it looked good. Astral Luna Gold is very glittery and doesn't feel "heavy nor rough" on the eye, but has a lot of fall out (even when using Fix plus and a light pressure with finger). I didn't really like VR Fire Oval by itself nor as a topper on any of the shadows in the palette, but I put it on a dark blue and purple shadows from another palette from a different brand, and it is a SHOWSTOPPER. Rose Gold is a pretty color and pigmented. I usually apply it with my fingers. Bronze blaze is applied best with a finger, but it has a bit of a harder texture. Entrapment is pigmented and blends nicely. Skinshow Divine Show is a creamy beautiful neutral pigmented light color. Overall I would not repurchase this palette again. For the price of the palette, I would expect all the shades to perform beautifully, not 8 out of 10. I also think this palette requires some "elbow grease" and you need some extra time when applying these eyeshadow shades.

Perfection!

I have the 2 lightest shades. The first is easily the best natural looking bronzer I’ve ever tried. It’s got a golden/yellow to it but it’s also balanced with olive. The next best is Victoria Beckum’s bronzer Brick in the lightest shade. That formula hard pans on me a bit. So far Pat’s does not. Pat’s second shade is a true tan on me. Warm with a touch of red! It doesn’t go orange or muddy on me. I like to balance this true bronzer with a touch of contour, it’s so pretty. It also layers well with all other products like creams, liquids powders. IMO Pat’s powder formulas are best applied with synthetic brushes. The blend wonderfully. I would call this a true satin skin like finish. This is the bronzer I’ve been searching for. I could not be happier!

This is my all time favourite eyeshadow palette, pat mcgrath eyeshadow formulas are already some of my favourite—they always blend out so beautifully, are easy to use, and look amazing on the eyes, but this colour story in particular is so versatile, if you like warm eyeshadows this palette is for you. The range of formulas in one palette, with mattes, shimmers, and of course Pat’s ‘special’ glitter formulas, is just chefs kiss. As a medium olive skinned girlie the red shade, green shifts, pinks, and neutral/warm browns are super complementary on the eyes. It gives an overall bronzed and warm effect while not overwhelming the face and clashing with my skin the way more orange leaning warm toned browns can. Hands down the beauty purchase I’ve ever made

This is probably the most versatile of the 6 PMG palettes I own (I'm hoping for Midnight Sun for Christmas!) and I find myself constantly reaching for it! The Iridescent Pink shade is simply gorgeous, it looks totally white but once on its magically a bright baby pink shimmer! I love combining this with the gold shade and a dab of the 'wet look' ultra high shine Astral shade, then use a deeper pink (actually I use one from the Huetopion Dreams palette) on the lower lash line to get a similar look to the pink/gold one in the sample photos. I have honestly NEVER come across eyeshadow palettes formulated like these, there's just no comparison, they are the ultimate top of the line. Truly have to experience these to appreciate them, I have no regrets whatsoever about collecting these - only sorry for my now neglected former favourite palettes!

The perfect palette? Honestly probably…

Truly a spectacular palette. First of all I think it is her easiest palette to use all over the face, not just on the eyes. Formulas are outstanding top to bottom; the selection of mattes is more satisfactory than previous Motherships in my opinion, both in color and pigmentation payoff, and the satins and metallics are buttery soft perfection. I feel that they can be used as one would use a matte (if you’re brave enough) and it’s fun to see how they can build and change at varying levels of intensity. Obviously Sextraterrestrial is a stand out, I like the trio chrome presented in this formula better than the one in Huetopian Dream tbh, but Skinshow Rose Opal also really surprised me and is quickly becoming my favorite Skinshow shade she’s released. I feel like it almost can pass for Iridescent Pink 003 when used on the face. Even the golds found in this palette I find to be more universal and usable than other PML golds! It’s a perfect palette, honestly for anyone, because it can be used to execute an exceedingly chill everyday wearable look or it can be amped up and get really glitzy and experimental on most, if not all, skin tones. And that’s reflected in the formulas too not even just the colors. For example Divine Dusk starts as a sumptuous warm brown but blends out to really expose the pink points of light therein and makes for THE perfect one-and-done shade. The level of workability in that pan alone blows me away! This one is a must have for PML fans but would also serve as the perfect introduction to her oeuvre as well I believe, not only because of its ease of use and fantastic formulation but also because it is simply gorgeous. Make sure you like pinks but otherwise dive on in to another masterpiece from Mother Pat (and my personal favorite Mothership that I have so far)!
