They also did not have a medium in stock, so I ordered the medium online. The fit is perfect in the waist area, but not in the sleeves or in the back across the shoulders. Beware there is a HUGE sizing gap between medium and large. It seems as though this is designed for people who are pear shaped with skinny, slinky arms. My grandson has wanted this for a while. He had a quarter zip and commented that he wished it was a full zip, so I made a mental note and got it for him for Christmas. He loves it. It is true to size for him and looks extremely nice. He has large hands and wrists so cuff size works well for him. He's been wearing it this week in 6 degree temperatures and claiming it is keeping him warm over a sweatshirt, but he's a toaster normally. I do think it is warmer than you would think. He could have possibly gotten by with a large, but he has big shoulders and it would have been very fitted there.

I already have a Patagonia fleece that I love. But it's a pull-over. With only the one zipper on the chest, and no side pockets to warm your hands. Friends, this one has it all! Side pockets for your hands. Chest zipper for those quick reach items. It even has an inner pouch for all sorts of stuff. And, as if things couldn't get any better, it's nice and cozy too! It's only gotten to the low 40s F since I've had it, but I haven't needed to layer to stay warm. That's a nice fleece!

I bought two of these sweaters because they fit so well and are really warm. That turned out not to be such a good decision. The sweater has pilled really badly and now I look like a homeless person who found an old sweater in the trash. I am not hard on sweaters at all and never used them to work in. The front of the sweater just started "pilling" within a few weeks. I do not think that washing in a front loading machine did this, because my wife always turns clothing inside out and zips it up. I have quite a bit of Patagonia clothing and some of it has lasted for over 15 years without this problem. This garment needs a total redesign.
I've only had this sweater for a month now but I wear it every day I get the chance. I got the black one and it goes with everything and looks GREAT. It is warmer than it looks and lets the breeze through a bit. I keep a gortex shell in my trunk that layers perfectly with this for all weather possbilities. This sweater is the bee knees and I would certainly buy again!

That said, I am utterly disappointed with the recent fit (in both men's and women's), as well as color choices (this season's colors seem dull and boring). I bought this better sweater for my husband to replace his older one, thick, but PILLED like a disappointingly, A LOT. This looks the same but is significantly thinner in material. My husband didn't like the thin jacket, so I had to return it. I also bought one for myself, and the XXS used to fit me to the T. This year's XXS seems larger, and the arms are much longer than my older sweater. Please please please stop changing what's been working for people. XXS in regular nano puff and down sweater fits me but in the micro puff it is super tight around the hips, preventing me from properly zipping up the jacket. Love the design, but returned it after two weeks because the front had already started to pill. The sizing on these is also super goofy. I'm 6 feet 175 lbs and the torso of the medium fit me perfectly. The length of the sleeves were fine, but the sleeves themselves were so tight I don't think I could fit my arm in there if I was wearing a long sleeve shirt. Legitimately felt like they were going to cut off circulation (and trust me, I don't have massive Popeye arms or anything.) Settled for a large even though the arms were a little long and the torso was much too big. If it hadn't started pilling immediately I might have held onto it, but only to wear inside while working from home because this thing really doesn't provide much warmth outside.
I tested the waters with the Better Sweater vest. Just in case. Soon I thought "I like this vest a lot, way too much, I should try the jacket". My world has been flipped upside down. The lining, the warmth, the fit, the versatility, and it just plain looks really, really good. It feels like you're wearing something with some weight to it, but for these Canadian Fall weather days, I am super impressed at how well it regulates the heat. No scratchy sections, great zippers, lining, everything. Highly recommended if you can swing it!

Patagonia doesn't market it as a technical fleece so I can't take penalize my better sweater for not performing in an environment it is not meant for. That being said, know it's limitations and buy one anyway!
