The zippered chest pocket can store smaller items like keys or money. There's a stiff mesh membrane that's sewn together with the fleece that blocks the wind. The jacket is relatively warm and will block most of the wind but it won't provide that much warmth when temps drop to the low 30s F or below.Visit New England during late autumn & winter when the cold, wind & wind chill cuts through your bones, hence bone chilling weather which New England is known for.No way you're going to wear just a regular shirt underneath in freezing temps, despite what some people state in their reviews.Best to wear under an insulated or shell jacket/parka in freezing temps. If you move around in the cold, your inner body will feel hot so it does provide some warmth. The jacket is somewhat stiff & heavy because of the membrane lining and the fleece may even get a bit hard over time.Patagonia needs to update the jacket to make the shoulder/armpit area Looser and include a waistcord! It should consider making a hooded version but with a bit looser fit.For comparison, the retro-x vest is More snug fitting than the jacket.Buy when it's on sale at it's expensive at regular price.

The Retro-x is said to be a regular fit but in reality, it's quite roomy around the shoulders and long in the arms but short in the body. Also, the Pelican color shown in the product photo is darker than the actual Pelican color. In reality, the Pelican color is lighter and a bit more beige.Although the size S fits well enough, I prefer the fit of the size XS as it looks a bit more professional (I'm about 5' 6", 140lb, 38" chest, 28" waist). For those that are taller, definitely stick to the size S as the XS will be too short for you.I also bought a Northern Green Men's Recycled Sherpa Fleece Hoody in XS. It has a much better fit and length but the chest area feels a little tighter as it does not stretch like the retro-x. On a side note, the Northern Green color is spectacular and if Patagonia makes the retro-x in Northern Green, I will definitely buy it.An interesting fact is that the color and fleece quality for 2021 and 2022 are different. Based on the information shown on the paper tag, the size XS is a 2021 model and the size S is a 2022 model. I preferred the lighter color shade and the pile length/softness of the 2022 but liked the 2021 for the thickness of the fleece as it feels more durable and may be less prone to matting in my opinion.Differences in color and fleece quality between the 2021 and 2022 models:- Color: 2022 Pelican is lighter than 2021- Pile Length: 2022 Pelican is longer than 2021- Softness: 2022 Pelican is softer than 2021- Thickness: 2022 Pelican is thinner than 2021

Iconic & Lasts Forever
25 January 2023

As I write this, I am wearing a Lightweight Synchilla Snap T that is almost 15 years old and is still in perfect condition. My wife has one that is more than 20 years old and is still going strong. They are warm, never go out of style and last forever. Some people gripe about the lack of pockets = point taken. The fit is "relaxed", meaning if you want layers underneath, go with your regular size; but if not, you can easily size down. I wear an XL in everything else Patagonia but I have this one and one of the heavier model both in Size L. Lots of people complain about the lint they throw off; so the first thing you should do with a new one is toss it into the washing machine = problem solved. Never, never, NEVER put these in the dryer! Totally unnecessary = they dry ... MoreAs I write this, I am wearing a Lightweight Synchilla Snap T that is almost 15 years old and is still in perfect condition. Interior seams not the same as the Retro X vests

I love my Retro X vest and have worn it religiously for the last 8 years and have no plans of stopping.I recently added the Retro X jacket to my closet based on my satisfaction with the vest and having to replace an old windwall from a competing brand.I was very disappointed when I put the jacket on and felt an interior seam across my back. I took it off to find that the interior seams are not flush but rather finished butted plain seams- that protrude inward by a healthy quarter inch. You can definitely feel the seam while wearing it. Where as the Retro X vests have a flat finished seam that is undetectable while wearing. As much as I love the style and functionality of these products-I'm considering returning this because I don't want to feel the seam across my ... MoreI love my Retro X vest and have worn it religiously for the last 8 years and have no plans of stopping.I recently added the Retro X jacket to my closet based on my satisfaction with the vest and having to replace an old windwall from a competing brand.I was very disappointed when I put the jacket on and felt an interior seam across my back. Large arms, tight torso, still awesome

So this jacket has been burned into my mind since my teenage days as a climbing bumb. Now that i don't have the time for long road trips, having this jacket is like having your favorite stuffed bunny to comfort you when those excel spreadsheets got you down. As for sizing it is oddly roomy in the arms but tight in the torso. This makes layering a bit strange because you can't fit a vest under it but you could fit extra arm sleeves if that's your thing. wearing another sweater under it creates the same problem. Despite this I still love it and it is perfect for in/out of cars or when the temp is between 0 and 15 celcius. I also notice that the fleece in the blue colour is longer pile and shaggier than the fleece in camo making it more prone to pilling. it doesn't ... MoreSo this jacket has been burned into my mind since my teenage days as a climbing bumb. Also many countries ban any camo pattern in clothing. People do love hugging you when wearing this jacket so that's a bonus. At the sale price it is excellent and you will be the envy of all those who buy homages to this jacket if that's your thing.

Perfect Jacket - Just Not For My Body
9 November 2022

I longed for this jacket for...forever, basically. I had pored over reviews and lurked the website. When the "Fungiis: Pitch Blue" color was released, I knew it was time. It's so cool! The fun colors and patterns seem to sell out fast and it was about to get cold here, so I splurged. The jacket arrived quickly, and was even softer and more well-made than I imagined. I was prepared for the jacket to be rougher - especially the lining, as a lot of reviewers have mentioned - and it didn't strike me as stiff or scratchy at all. Just from trying the jacket on, I could tell it was going to be wildly warm. But...cue heartbreak. It just didn't feel right for my body type. I have a super short torso and super high waist, and this jacket felt a little longer than I'm used to ... MoreI longed for this jacket for...forever, basically. I know more length means more warmth, but I just couldn't shake the feeling that it was "off" for me. For most people, this would be the World's Best Jacket! If there's ever a shorter-cut version...I'm in. I returned mine after trying it on a million times, but wanted to encourage anyone here (particularly you normal- and long-torso-havers) to jump on this.

Surprisingly warm & windproof for fleece!
2 January 2023

I love the looks of a fuzzy winter weather piece and have several from Patagonia & other outdoor clothing companies. Typically they are warm until you get into the slightest breeze, then you might look warm and toasty but the wind just goes right though those larger spaces in the fabric face, created by those big & beautiful fuzzy materials. Enter this jacket! I love the zip pockets which keep my items secure, the chest pocket that is ample sized for a phone or sunglasses, and the tall collar to seal in the warmth. Enjoy the splashes of contrasting color on the zipper pulls and storm flap. I do think this has a bit more of a form factor due to how the material is sewn together, which gives it some curvy silhouette & style to a very thick and hefty jacket. I could be thinner, so it helps to have that form look to it vs just the typical boxy fleece cut of others. The sleeves are long, if I had any feedback, it would be to make the cuffs a bit snugger or adjustable so that the sleeves don't constantly ride down over un-gloved hands when at your sides. I wouldn't make them less long however, the extra material is nice on your arms so that the body of the jacket doesn't ride up or sleeves expose your forearms/wrists when you reach up high for things. This truly is a WINNER and worth the price!A must-have! A++++

I purchased the medium when it was 50% in store which came out to $114. Great deal! The jacket is comfy and so warm, you definitely can wear just a t shirt under it when its about 40 degrees out. The small would have been super fitted and uncomfortable under the arm pits and a hoodie would have made me feel like the Michelin man. I wear this indoors at work when its cold and outside walking around outside. The windproof layer is soft for me, not stiff and scratchy like others say. I bought this for my bday bc of the sale and I always wanted one. Its a great value especially at this price.
