Comfortable and definitely waterproof

I recently went backpack camping and knew there was a little chance of rain so I picked up a new rain coat. This Patagonia jacket was 40% off so it was a great deal. The little chance of rain turned into a downpour and this jacket kept me dry for 6 hours of continuous rain while packing up camp and hiking out. I was damp underneath from my body heat but the coat never leaked. The arm pit vents definitely worked. And it fit me perfectly, which is usually not the case with Patagonia clothing. The jacket is really soft and comfortable to wear. And has plenty of handy features like the arm pit zippers, a large adjustable hood, Velcro wrist closures, and it zips up high on your face to help keep the rain out. I’m really happy with the jacket.

Took this jacket to Patagonia and it performed great as a windbreaker and to fend off light rain but it could not handle the unexpected weather in Chilean Patagonia. I was caught in an unexpected rainstorm and after about 30 minutes, water started to seep in from all over and I still had 5 miles left to get to the next campsite. Even before the rainstorm, when I was hiking up a mountain (the day same day) there was light rain and after about an hour I felt moisture in the hood. The rest of the jacket performed well. I will say, however, that when the rainstorm passed the jacket dried off rather quickly though it was unfortunate that during the rainstorm it got wet considering the price of the jacket. I have a Hollister rainjacket that was under $100 that performed ... MoreTook this jacket to Patagonia and it performed great as a windbreaker and to fend off light rain but it could not handle the unexpected weather in Chilean Patagonia. Great jacket, intense hood

I use it as both a rain jacket and a snow shell all year long in the Colorado Winter at my fully outdoor job. Definitely zero complaints when it comes to keeping me dry. Packs down very small, is very durable, and cleans up easily.Only downside is the hood. It’s large, loud, and feels a little excessive? I recently bought a size down from what I had been wearing and that seemed to help but it’s still intense. I have to wear a baseball cap with it to have a full field of vision. If you’re sensitive to sounds or really bothered by a hood going down your forehead a bit, this probably isn’t for you.

Hardy and Comfortable

Had some help from the Boulder store replacing a failed Stretch Rainshadow (thank you Patagonia!). I've had this shell now for almost 2 months and it is simply amazing. Rain, sleet, hail, snow and wind ripped ridges are no match so it does its main job well. What I really like is that it is a tough 3 layer but yet found a way to balance some softness making it comfortable to wear all day. I find I don't need to take it off which is really saying something for an alpine shell. It's got great lines and works as well running errands as on the trail. But I've found it's so nice and tough it's become my go to for everything except actual alpine skiing. On top of that, saw some fishing nets tangled in trees in AK and all I could think was how much this company is doing to ... MoreHad some help from the Boulder store replacing a failed Stretch Rainshadow (thank you Patagonia!). Not sure it's worth the extra cost.

Don't get me wrong, this jacket is great. But at $130 more than the Torrentshell 3L, you really have to be committed to helping the environment. From what I can tell, and from what I was told by a Patagonia expert, the only difference between this and the Torrentshell 3L, is the Granite Crest jacket is made with NetPlus®, which is Patagonia's 100% post-consumer recycled nylon ripstop made from recycled fishing nets. I love the fact that Patagonia is 100% committed to saving our planet, but the cost for this jacket is a little prohibitive. The fit is great; it's completely waterproof, and the hood will easily cover a helmet. The arm vents are great for a little extra breathability, and overall, it's a great jacket. I just wish it wasn't so pricey.

Solid Rain Jacket; Quite Versatile
12 August 2023

I like this rain jacket a ton. I've tried a plethora of rain jackets in my life, ranging from super cheap to very expensive, and I can confidently say that this jacket is the best I've owned. I really appreciate the underarm ventilation; helps keep moisture from building up inside the jacket.Overall, a great jacket. Would totally recommend. (I'm 6'0" and 165 lbs, and a medium fits perfectly.)

Solid rain shell
6 August 2023

I purchased this in Tidepool Blue because I love the deep blue with contrasting red zips. I usually wear a large and that’se what I bought. It fits well, if a little oversized (not enough to size down) but the hood is huge. It flips over my face even if I tighten it, and I wish it was just a little smaller or better adjustability. The pit zips aren’t true “2-way” but single zippers that open in opposite directions. And I wish there were screens in the openings but that’s not a deal-breaker. It’s a solid jacket, Patagonia is a brand I don’t find misses too often.

Warranty Replacement
10 January 2023

This rain jacket was a replacement for one that I had previously owned. The lining in the hood was flaking and I went into the store to replace it. Since I was wearing the old one and the employee was able to see the lining flaking, It was replaced with no questions asked. I was so impressed with the ease of the warranty replacement and the way that Patagonia stood behind their product, that I left the store and immediately began telling people about how impressed that I was with this policy. I have owned many Patagonia products in the past, but I have never had to use a warranty claim. I am even more committed to a brand now that stands behind its products.

Well constructed with all the featured I need, but...
5 August 2023

I was pretty stoked on this jacket when I got it, feels solid and wanted to try the H2No over GoreTex. Hood fits great with a helmet and is very adjustable for wind and rain.I'm tall and slim, with the medium fitting for layering underneath, albeit a little boxy. The sleeves are far too short however, and sizing up would be far too big. After a commute home in the jackets first heavy rainfall my shoulders appeared damp also, meaning the seams had leaked. I don't think this is common, but I really need something bombproof for the PNW.I've returned it and I'm hoping the new Triolet are a better fit!

Works, fits good
27 February 2023

I typically need a LT or XL, but the large fits great. One problem I do have is I have skinny arms/wrists. So there is not enough Velcro on the wrist closures for me to close the wrists up snug. I wish the hood was either detachable or could be stored out of use, however with the long neck of this jacket, it isn't that great for using without the hood on. I bought this for when I have to work out in the heavy rain and it seems to work pretty good, although I've only gotten to use it once so far. Fabric is pretty comfortable and not too hot.
