Another fantastic piece of clothing from Patagonia. ..perfect fit, true to size & great material. I've been shopping here for years & have never had an issue with any of the clothing nor has their ever been any delivery issues. I highly recommend this awesome company.

Great material and stitch. Good lengths to prevent inner thigh wax burn. Sad little pocket on the back that grinds your wax and car key into your butt cheek. The hook-and-loop is a weak closure. Expect your stuff to be gone. Pray the little leash holds your key. Move the pocket to the side. Use a longer hook-and-loop or add a simple zipper. Make the pocket deeper for dry use too. So close!

Great set of board shorts. The new material is good, doesn't bunch up and dries quickly. Fit is just right. The only odd thing is, once again, the tags sewn into the waistband. There are 4 tags total, 3 are 4 inches long, printed both sides, 1 about an inch long, by 1 inch wide full of all kinds of printed stuff. So, I want to find the "care instructions" or how best to clean 'em up. Nowhere in this voluminous bunch of tags does it state in English the care instructions. There's Spanish, German, Dutch (?), 3 different Asian instructions in non-Roman alphabets (I'm guessing what they say, honestly no idea). How 'bout something in English as well?

I have a couple pairs the older Stretch Hydroplaning and Wavefarers in the 21" length. They were a little too big in the waist and long in the legs so I finally these newer ones in a smaller waist and length. The fit is exactly as described. They are a slim fit and fit closer to the thigh but have plenty of give when wet to not bind. They dry quick and I had no chafing issues. My only gripe is the location of the pocket. It should be on the side. Anything in the pocket is just annoying.
I really like the fit and material of these boardshorts. They are comfortable and the material seems to be more durable than others I've owned. Here are the negatives from my pov:There is a back pocket which makes no sense to me. I would prefer a side pocket like they put on the wavefarer shorts. As I've found across a lot of Patagonia clothing, sizing is not consistent across product lines, so you can't buy the same size shorts in every style and it's best to try them on first. I wear a 31 in the Wavefarer and a 33 in the Hydropeak, which is very frustrating.
These are probably my sixth or seventh pair of Patagonia board shorts, and they're probably the best pair I've ever owned. The fit is perfect, and I appreciate Patagonia offering some shorts that stop above the knees. My favorite part, though, is the fly. Or lack of fly. Or whatever. There's no zipper or buttons to mess with up front. That does two things: it makes them super easy to get them on and off (never having to re-thread the draw strings); and it prevents any chaffing/abrasion up front. These shorts really adhere to the minimalist, less-is-more Patagonia philosophy that I appreciate so much. Yes, it makes taking a wiz a half step more cumbersome, but it's a happy tradeoff for me. If I could change anything, I probably would prefer a zippered rear pocket, or ... MoreThese are probably my sixth or seventh pair of Patagonia board shorts, and they're probably the best pair I've ever owned. If I could change anything, I probably would prefer a zippered rear pocket, or even a rear pocket that doesn't close at all, as opposed to the velcro closure rear pocket, but at this point, we're being REALLY nitpicky, aren't we? The bottom line is that these shorts are awesome, well worth the price for the quality. 10/10 would recommend.
These are supposed to be black, but they're gray. I have another pair of older black Patagonia board shorts that are actually black, and when you put these next to them, the difference is stark. Although these were billed as black, they're clearly not black - they're dark gray.
I've always worn board shorts from other brands and never thought twice about having two front pockets till the other brands stopped offering solid colors and I decided to try these. I don't understand how you carry your phone and keys to from the beach without pockets? I am 6'2" and 175lbs, ordered 32 and 33, both fit in the waist but both felt clingy and restrictive through the legs. Fabric feels premium but I'm returning.
These are true boardshorts for surfing, not cycling shorts, not climbing shorts. This is my fourth pair of these. Far and away the best boardshorts I've had (surfing 41 years), EVER. Super light and you can surf for hours in them with getting a rash in your delicate region. They're perfect.
Well-made boardshorts constructed of stretchy synthetic material that dries quickly and is comfortable to wear. Fit is true to size, they hit just above the knee and are on the slim side which was what I was after. Got them on sale for $47 which is good value.
