A really good pair of boardshorts. Ill admit, I was a bit skeptical since Im partial to the wavefarer, it these work great. The material is lighter than the wavefarer so Ive not put them through the usual punishment, but they work great for most water sports (surfing, swimming, etc) and the material is perfect for yoga. Some might find the 21 inch catches the knee however. Also, it has a Velcro pocket instead of a zipper. Not my preference but not a deal breaker.

My favorite board shorts ever in 2021. Bought a second pair this year, same style and size, and they fit more snugly, PLUS they got rid of the cool botton fly and button back pocket closure. Fly replaced with a flap of folding fabric and tht leaves a gap under the tie. And velcro on the back pocket for closure. Bummer. These ones going back. Still great shorts. Maybe just size up one size. I'm 5' 10' and 180. Size 34 too small. Need 35 ythis year. Crazy cozy.

Board shorts. High-quality board shorts. Well-constructed thoughtful and attractively designed. I really like everything about the shirts. Please consider creating/expanding your surfing where lineup. Mono chrome colors with subtle flying fish design is always ideal! Keep up the good work I fully support this company and the quality products That I enjoyed for years. Best wishes Christopher Baker

My nine-year-old Wavefarer Boardshorts have treated me well, but I prefer a bit of stretch in my shorts, so I decided to check out the Hydropeak Scallop Boardshorts.I'm 5' 8" and 150 pounds. I wear a 30 waist in my old boardshorts, my new boardshorts and my Hydropeak Hybrid Walk Shorts (also from this year/season). The sizing is consistent across the different products.I've used these for surfing, swimming, and pool workouts (underwater running and swimming with weights). I appreciate having some stretch, especially when the shorts are dry---it's less relevant when they're wet but still nice. The fabric is super lightweight, nice on the skin, and dries quickly. The 18" length is spot-on for someone in my height range---not too long, not too short.Coupling the ... MoreMy nine-year-old Wavefarer Boardshorts have treated me well, but I prefer a bit of stretch in my shorts, so I decided to check out the Hydropeak Scallop Boardshorts.I'm 5' 8" and 150 pounds. The 18" length is spot-on for someone in my height range---not too long, not too short.Coupling the length and the lightweight fabric, I almost forget that I've got anything on, which is a sign of a top-notch pair of trunks (in my opinion). I'd recommend these shorts and would purchase a second pair (only when truly needed though). Well done, Patagonia.
I've used the stretch wavefarer board shorts for many years, those seem to have disappeared from Patagonia's web site over the past year. Tried the hydrospeak, love the fit and comfort, they dry fast also which is good. Would have given 4 stars but the logo starts peeling off after many uses. Have purchased four pairs since February, on one the P is totally off, on the others it's starting to peel. It's a little crazy, I'm willing to pay more for quality, the wavefarers had a sewn logo. Otherwise, awesome board short.
Love the fit and the feel of these shorts, they are flexible and stretch in all the right places. They are super versatile and are just at home on a trail as they are at the beach. The only gripe I have is that they use to have a zip pocket on the front-right thigh and that's now a velcro pocket on the right butt cheek.Maybe it's better for surfers on the back, but the zip pocket was big enough for phone and keys (even when sitting) which made these super practical. Now if you want to use the only pocket AND sit down, you have to take our all your stuff. Also makes it harder to run in these as the zip pocket was extra security for small, items which can pop out of pockets.
Im 6 ft and shorts fit perfect. Right above the knee but not short shorts like 19 inch outseams. Would appreciate more solid colors (at least black). If the hydrolock is a success can we get it in a 21 inch outseam? Thankful to at least have one board short in the line still offered at 21 inch outseams. Also, I prefer the wavefarer stretch side zipper pocket over the velcro patch pocket - a lot more useful. Regardless, the shorts feel great and I would highly recommend them
First off, how awesome is it that these shorts are offered in a longer inseam!!! I quickly noticed that the other reviewers seemed to be tall, like me. We REALLY struggle with finding shorts that fit (properly). These shorts fit perfectly in every area. They stay up on my waist and have a very adjustable waistband compared to other brands. Another thing i love about them is their stretch, i have yet to feel uncomfortable in them while climing anywhere around my boat or up a cliff for a dive. The coolest feature to me though is how fast these bad boys dry and how hydrophobic they act - WOW! I simply cant recommend these shorts enough!
Very nice shorts! I dont go into the ocean enough anymore, wearing these shorts for the next best thing, beach volleyball! Like the lightness and the stretchy fabric. Top quality, cant go wrong. But what could be perhaps possible: #1: longer in the length, and #2: more experimental colors. Seriously I cant buy blacks and blues anymore after this pair, so how about burgundy, army green, or tie-dye? On another level, and perhaps I should not say this, almost all board shorts seem to be styled in color and length and pattern for an ethnicity that darker-skinned folk like me find it difficult to relate to, despite the stunning photos of the surfers in the Patagonia catalogs, sigh. Just a thought. Thats probably just me! Anyway, love these shorts!
So I have trimmed up quite a bit over the last 3 years and realized my size 32 swim trunks were feeling a bit loose. I had a hard time finding a pattern I liked online and came across these on Patagonia. I dont mind paying for quality products especially ones environmentally sourced however.I have purchased 2 pairs of these now. The first were size 31 and were so tight I barely was able to scale my thighs and butt without worry about the seams splitting. Forget pullling the laces together to tie as the flaps didnt align due to the tightness. These are for sure slim cut heavy on the slim. Which brings me to the fact that I am slim with practically no butt?? Skinny jeans look like normal jeans on me?? I returned the 31s for a 32 and sadly still find these shorts to be ... MoreSo I have trimmed up quite a bit over the last 3 years and realized my size 32 swim trunks were feeling a bit loose. Which brings me to the fact that I am slim with practically no butt?? Skinny jeans look like normal jeans on me?? I returned the 31s for a 32 and sadly still find these shorts to be just a bit too snug trying to get them up. I find this very disappointing. And at the very high end of the spectrum price wise for a board short I dont want to risk tearing these. I am also puzzled as to why they are so expensive because there really is nothing overly special about these other than a scallop cut and fish emblem. They have less flexibility than my old board shorts from another very notable manufacturer. I have purchased several items in the past from Patagonia and probably will in the future (maybe) but find these shorts somewhat disappointing and underwhelming. The 32s are going back as well. I am 511.5 and weight 180 with a fairly trim athletic build.
