All around great lightweight jacket for the warmth

I was impressed with the fit and build quality, and they have pockets in all the right places. My only complaint is that the sleeves seem a little longer than necessary. As long as you adjust the wrist straps, it isn’t an issue, though. It has an easy-to-use powder skirt and hood. The jacket is much lighter than the insulation would suggest. It isn’t as warm as my main ski jacket, but it is far lighter. I didn’t have a chance to wear it skiing yet, but I did wear it in the snow while assembling a temporary garage. I would recommend this coat for everyday winter wear in climates where it is consistently below freezing. It would certainly work great as a ski jacket.

Bombproof jacket, for around town or the ski hill

If you ever have any issues with the jacket, Patagonia will go out of its way to repair the jacket to keep it in rotation and out of the landfill. I have experienced the warranty first hand. Patagonia repaired a 10 year old puffer jacket of mine no questions asked.I ordered a large. I am 6'3, 225 pounds. 34 or 36 inch waist. If I ordered it again, I would probably pick up the XL in the jacket and large in pants. For the price, definitely worth picking up. Will be in your rotation for many years to come.

The hood is very nice, it comes over my face enough to block wind on a windy lift ride, and snugs down with the cords to help even more. There are also tension cords at the waist that you adjust from inside the pocket, those are really good in the windy or powdery days. too. Inside there are another two pockets, one large enough for your hat, or smaller gloves. At the back of the jacket inside is a strap to hook to the back of your pants, and yes the Patagonia pants have the loop to accept that I dont use that feature, it feels odd to me. I wasn't in the wet to see about it waterproof features but I will see soon I am sure. Great jacket, especially for taller people I am 6'1" and got a medium, for those that are shorter you may feel it is too long, so try it first.

Great Jacket
31 January 2024

I recently purchased this jacket to replace a warranty return on an Eddie Bauer down jacket. That was a great jacket but the zipper blew out after a year and a half or so. Great jacket but very happy they stood behind their warranty. I used the return amount to purchase this jacket to be used as an all around winter jacket and midwest downhill ski jacket. I can't speak to the longevity since I haven't had it that long, although the build quality with Patagonia is always amazing (this seems no different). I typically wear a Patagonia L in their jackets and ordered the same. Seems to fit perfect with a little more room than I'm used to with their products. I'm 6'2" and 190 pounds so relatively skinny. The zippers are all high quality and the outer fabric seems very tough. I have no doubt it will last and have never had an issue with Patagonia repairing anything that's broken. I still have other gear from them thats over 5 years old and going strong. The insulation seems sufficient with extra in the arms and less in the body. Temp can also be regulated through pit zips. My only request (and this is minor) is that they add another snap layer for the powder skirt. I'm pretty skinny with a size 34 waist and would love to be able to tighten up the skirt in heavier powder. Otherwise this jacket is perfect as is with great wind and rain protection as well.

Great quality, a few adjustments could have been 5 stars
31 March 2024

Got this Patagonia Powder coat for my husband to use while snowboarding and he really likes it. Fit is great with enough room to move comfortably while going down the mountain. His only issues are when the hood is up over his helmet the collar does not cover enough of his face. When coat is zipped all the way up it comes to the bottom of his chin. Not that big of deal, just get an additional face cover. The cuffs are thin with small bands making it not ideal when adjusting with mittens/gloves on, and the zipper is one way, it is always nice to have the option to unzip a little from the bottom when sitting. Over all great quality, with enough room to move in.

Long Arms/Torso - Not Roomy
11 January 2023

The model pictured for this Powder Town jacket is 6'1" wearing a size medium. If you are anything other than a 6'1" man who eats nothing but rice cakes and has arms that rest down around your ankles, this jacket will likely fit poorly. The arms extend to the tips of my fingers, the torso extends to the bottom of my butt, and the chest is very tight with no room to layer underneath. I would love to see Patagonia's design team use a single shade of red as the two tone red is odd looking. I would also like to see them restore a true relaxed-fit ski jacket to their line-up like the Patagonia relaxed-fit of the 1990's. This jacket, sans powder skirt, would make a great addition to the running category as it will fit the very tall and the very skinny. The jacket is built with the usual excellent quality and construction of Patagonia, but really misses the mark for many skiers and riders who want a jacket baggy enough to layer and to move around in on the mountain. The RFID pass pocket on the arm is a nice addition as many resorts are moving in that direction for passes and lift tickets. I can only recommend this jacket for long, skinny, pea on a toothpick body types, which make a very low percentage of the people I see on the mountain. This jacket is the new "regular fit" Patagonia, which is the slim-fit of yesteryear Patagonia.

Perfect ski jacket for cold and deep resort days
19 December 2023

The Powder Town Jacket is perfect crushing big days on the mountain, especially when the pow starts getting deep. The attention to detail and thoughtfulness in features make this jacket an absolute dream to ski in.Love features:- Insulated hood is a game changes on super cold days (and fits over a ski helmet)- Pockets - there are tons of places to stash stuff on this jacket (Napoleon pocket, hand warmer pockets, ski pass forearm pocket, internal dump pocket, internal zip pocket)- Powder skirt w/ tab to connect to the Powder Town pants- Pit zips - this jacket is WARM, so having pit zips to dump heat when temps rise is essentialOverall, this is a super warm & fully featured ski jacket that will be my absolute go-to on chilly days on-piste.

Solid Jacket, a bit lanky
19 March 2024

Took my new jacket out in some terrible late season East Coast ski conditions, temps in the 40s F, and a day of sleety, rain mix. The coat did well in both, the pit vents helped air it out on the warmer day with just a base layer beneath. I threw on one more mid weight layer on the second day with the sleet and was very comfortable both days. In the rain the exterior appeared to soak in a fair amount of water and added some weight but the inside stayed perfectly dry. The hood provided good close fitting coverage over a helmet. Pocket placement was good and covered the expected bases. My biggest gripe is the jacket seems to be cut a bit large and long, not uncomfortably so, but a bit oddly compared to other pieces. I tried on both a Medium and a Large and the Medium was a perfect snug fit, but wouldn't allow for much in the way of additional layers or freedom of movement. So I went for the Large and it was comfortable but it fit almost like it was a Long both in sleeveand torso length. Again this wouldn't be of much consequence but with the tackiness of the powder skirt, when not snapped closed, the coat would stick/drag on my hips when moving from squatting to standing upright. Not enough to be a problem but a slight annoyance. I still like the jacket quite a lot but the fit likely will keep it more a ski focused piece, vs a daily piece.

Very nice jacket
23 October 2023

I was looking for a jacket that provided the wind/water protection of my old wind shell and a little more warmth. I spend a lot of time outside in the winter. This jacket fills that niche very nicely. I like the look, feel and function. My only negative comment is the sizing. Every Patagonia piece of clothing I have ever owned has been a large. I ordered a large but the jacket seemed very bulky and the sleeves extended past my fingertips a good 4-5" so I returned it for a medium. The medium fits very well in all aspects except for the chest which is a little bit tight (almost uncomfortably). Although I don't have a tin athletic build, I am not over weight (5'11" & 185 lbs). For how light it is it’s surprisingly warm, and if you want more air there are generous pit zips that you can open up. The powder skirt is adjustable with pulls that go through the front pockets, so you can adjust it while your jacket is fully zipped (pictured since that’s hard to describe). The hood is gigantic and will fit over a helmet but is also adjustable from the back if you don’t want it that bulky. It’s not removable and you can’t roll it up/zip it up to get it out of the way but it really didn’t flop around for me on the downhills and I hardly noticed it was there. This jacket is geared towards conditions that most skiers and snowboarders will probably encounter but sometimes it does get exceptionally cold and/or windy in the hills. On those days I’ll wear a heavier coat that I have, although that coat would be too warm in a lot of conditions in which this jacket excels. And forget about wearing that other one for things like skimo, even when it’s super cold out.The fit is generous, leaving plenty of room for layering underneath. I have a 38” chest and usually just wear a 250 weight merino base layer and there is still a lot of room.
