I simply love the look and year-round versatility of this jacket! The thin profile and slim fit functions well as an insulated mid layer for winter conditions under a ski parka or as a shoulder season jacket by itself. Also a great weight for taking the edge off crisp summer alpine mornings. Wind-proof and repels light rain. Primaloft insulation handles getting wet better than down without losing thermal properties. Athletic cut looks good on the trail or back in town at the end of the day. Even looks good for the office commute. Ultra light weight and built-in stuff pocket make it a no-brainer to bring along for changing conditions on every outing. It's not the only jacket to own, but it's the most-used piece in my layering system all year. An essential outdoor ... MoreI simply love the look and year-round versatility of this jacket! Great warmth until about 35 degrees Fahrenheit. With a rain jacket over it, it can be warm into the 20s. Over an hour in those temps is easy. Very lacking in the water repellent category. Honestly, it gets soaked about as fast as wearing a blue jean jacket - my wife was wearing a blue jean jacket for comparison. Stays about as warm too. In light rain, for short duration, add a rain jacket. This jacket can’t handle rain at all. After all the hype, I expected more - especially, at $300 after tax. Not worth it.If you want a light, packable, warm jacket that’s made for light wind - great jacket. If you are going to experience any inclement weather (including wind), add a rain jacket. This is my 3rd Patagonia down jacket. My first is an original down jacket purchased about 7 or so years ago. My second, I purchased about a year ago, and it's a Grey Nano Puff Hoodie (for when it rains). Traveled to Europe with it last January for a months-long trip. It's incredibly wind resistant & sheds water like a duck plus it is toasty warm. I pair it with a Patagonia Nano Puff vest. My latest purchase is this hoodless Nano Puff in Yellow for my upcoming winter month trip to Paris. It's top quality, fits true size, and is toasty warm, with plenty of pocket space to keep my hands warm or load in a pair of leather gloves or keys and whatnot. Also sheds water like a duck. Gotta love Patagonia's quality and return policy. Yes, these jackets are expensive but you ... MoreThis is my 3rd Patagonia down jacket. I purchased the Pitch Blue Nano Puff on a web special. The Nano Puff is already pretty legendary and really needs no introduction. It's warm, lightweight, and makes a great fall/winter jacket. I am 6'1 and weigh about 200 lbs. The large size fits me well, it's not too baggy and I can still wear another layer under it.We need to talk about this Pitch Blue colorway! The navy 'blue' is pretty dark, almost black (think ocean at night). The fuchsia stitching and zippers with the aquamarine trim are really fun. But to my complete surprise, the inside of this jacket has a super fun coloured pattern (looks like clouds, almost like pop art). You can not see it in the product photos and it does not do it justice! Now I am curious if any of the other Nano Puff's have ... MoreI purchased the Pitch Blue Nano Puff on a web special. I am sure this style is not for everyone, but I think it's really fun.
I had an earlier discontinued version of this jacket that I be absolutely loved, used, and abused. That jacket did everything from hiking, to mountain climbing, to a lot of freezing nights camping, to just running errands, and everything in between. The Nano Puff is a worthy successor that is going to see just as much use.Fit- Loose enough that you can get base layers on under it, but not so big that you cant throw more layers on top. It also feels roomy and unrestrictive for when you are moving around. Maybe a little tighter looking than some people would like for casual wear, but I think it looks fineUse- This jacket is warm! Pretty much a go to whenever it gets cold out. Pretty much a go to whenever it gets cold out. Does a fantastic job of trapping in heat and keeping you warm, combined with a good outer shell and you might as well be wearing your own personal heater. The nano puff is great go to for everything from a bit of chill in the air to snow on the ground. You will not be disappointed. Also packs down to just about nothing, so it is always easy to pack along.Looks- Looks as great as it feels. Also the offset in the stitching gives it an interesting look without being obnoxious like some other companies. It is stylish enough you can wear this out and about anytime.
When it came time to get a new jacket, I decided to take the plunge and purchase a Patagonia. Although their jackets cost three times what I normally spend, I wanted to jacket that would last and I liked the ethics of the company. Well, after wearing the jacket casually for just the past five weeks, the stitching is coming out all over. I have several loops of pulls in the stitching on the arms and two places where a loose thread an inch long has broken free. This is so disappointing as my main reason for purchasing Patagonia was durability. I was hoping this jacket would look good longer than one month. A quick search on the Internet shows this is not an isolated incident. I'll contact the outdoors store from which is was purchased and hopefully Patagonia will make ... MoreWhen it came time to get a new jacket, I decided to take the plunge and purchase a Patagonia. This is a terrific product. Lightweight and completely flexible, you can roll it up to fit neatly in your backpack or carry-on luggage. It's hard to believe such a lightweight jacket can keep you so warm but it does. Another important consideration: when I received my jacket it had a tear in it. We were leaving the next day for Europe and I didn't have time to exchange it or even reach out to Patagonia. I took it with me and used it throughout our trip. After returning home I contacted Patagonia customer service, explained the situation and they immediately issued me a return shipping label and sent me a new jacket. No hassles whatsoever. It's a pleasure doing business with a company that stands 100% behind their products and for the customer!
The construction quality is very good (hence a 2 star review and not 1), but the fit is very strange. The waist and hip areas are very tight. Shoulders and sleeve length are good.I tried a Large and Medium and on both sizes the fit around the waist is the same. What is the need for a drawstring on the bottom hem if the jacket is already almost skin tight to the body?Patagonia continues to go to more slim, form fitting designs. This is really a disappointment as the older fits from Patagonia were more relaxed, focusing more on range of motion - as one wants in outdoor clothing. Please stop making only items with slim fit, "fashionable" cuts. Go back to your roots of making garments in more relaxed fit cuts that allow one a full range of motion.
There's a lot of good things to say about the Nano Puff but super warm is not one of them. Everything has its weakness. having said that it is a versatile piece of kit and I wear mine a lot. If its cool to cold you definitely need to layer up under it as 60 g of primaloft is not as insulating as the same amount of down. Its advantage over down is that the nano Puff is far more serviceable, just throw it in the washing machine, and if it gets damp it still works. The outer shell material is quite tough for its low weight making it a hard wearing garment The Nano leans towards wind protection rather than breathability, but you can't have both and wind protection is all important for me. Price of the Nano is a bit high for a synthetic jacket but you can usually get one ... MoreThere's a lot of good things to say about the Nano Puff but super warm is not one of them. Patagonia M is often a bit tight through the chest for me at 41in, but the Nano fits me well in M.All up a very useful all rounder and a Patagonia staple.
