I prefer a medium, but due to the ridiculous trend of these slim-fitted and ?active? sized clothing lines these past few years, i usually have to order items in large; such as patagonia, arcteryx, mountain hardware and the like. Having read those reviews regarding sizing though.. i took their advice and ordered my usually preferred size of medium. And I am certainly glad that i did! Having worn the medium, a large would?ve been a tent. The arms are long enough to reach out with the medium while climbing, or skiing without them riding up.. and the bottom length is just below my belt line, so that it doesnt ride up allowing cold or winds to get inside etc... The chest size is just right too. I am muscularly built with broad shoulders, yet the medium still allows the wearing of a base layer, and a pull over?such as an arcteryx lt before adding this item on blistering cold days (this morning was 5 below zero for example), without any problems at all. You can also pull this on over a shirt such as arcteryx rho or similar without the arms getting all caught up inside due to the materials. It also happens to be very stretchy, so even if it feels slightly ?fitted? in the chest area etc... it will stretch accordingly. I was hoping the fluffy squares would have been ?fluffier? ... such as the R4... but they are just right. Their are three pockets so there is plenty of room for cell phones, keys, an ID card and the like (and they are lined with the smoother materials found in winter jackets which i prefer instead of the mesh/ventilation types typical in midlayers these days. I bought the black in medium so i cannot comment on colors etc.. and i bought the non-hooded version so cannot comment on the hood, except to say i will probably obtain one of those versions as well in the immediate future. This item has great warmth to weight ratio. So it will be one of my most used items for three season activities. And it is also very packable. So it will be a great addition to the pack. So... my overall impression is that this will be one of my go-to mid layers for some time to come. The quality is actually better than i imagined too, given that... in one of the pictures shown above from the company, the sewing seem-lines between the front and back panels... are shown to be uneven and weirdly put together.. and the one i received is put together smoothly such as what one would expect from a high quality clothing company such as Patagonia.

This is my third TechFace jacket, had couple of R1 jackets and pullovers, fell in love. I have been looking for something a bit more insulated for temp in ~40F, came across this R2 TechFace, inside fur keeps you warm while outside looks stylish as usual from Patagonia, the extra design with pattern is a bonus. Overall, happy with jacket, solving the purpose with not losing style and look. It’s a great shopping experience with Dicks sporting online site in finding this and very impressed with quick delivery to meet my plans.

This is hands down my favorite jacket. I have two, one in the hooded version and one non-hooded. SUPER comfortable and durable. It definitely isn't meant to be a stand alone in sub-freezing temperatures, but it keeps me nice and toasty down to about 32 degrees F with just a short sleeve shirt underneath. The fabric of the jacket is stretchy and moves with you. The jacket looks good enough that you could wear it for a night out on the town, but performs good enough to wear as a layer or stand alone as well. Not 100% waterproof, but very water resistant. Patagonia nailed it with this jacket.

Fit Review
6 January 2023

This jacket was difficult to return as I really liked the features and feel of it. However, I found that the fit is far to 'boxy' and loose. I wear a L in about every piece of kit and ordered a large in this as well. The arms and chest fit well (snug) but everything from the chest down was very baggy and loose around my waist. It is also quite long and would hang below outer layers. With that I returned it but would purchase again if sizing was different.

Love the R2 Tech Face!!!
9 December 2022

I bought this one for me Son for Christmas. I have 4 of them in different colors (one with a hood). I live in Mammoth Lakes, and I have to say the R2 Tech Face is the most useful & comfortable garment I own!!! Unlike other fleeces, it's pretty windproof, and sheds water. I can easily ski on 35 degree days with just a think vest under it and feel comfortable. It's light and very stretchy, so you any restriction of movement. Needless to say - I love the R2 Tech Face. Note: I'm normally a large, but because I usually ware it with just a T-shirt, or base layer, the Medium fits perfectly.

I already had an R1 version of this jacket and I liked it, but it was a little too light once the temps start to drop below 50. I wear this as a stand alone jacket into the 30s with no problem and it keeps me nice and warm, but not so warm that I can't wear it when its a little warmer. It's actually even become my go-to for wearing at the always cold office. I can also fit it under my rain jacket, no issue, if I want to layer up. Just really great, versatile piece of kit.If I had one complaint its that the collar doesn't really stand up well on its own (although not as floppy as the R1 jacket). Otherwise, it's pretty much flawless. For sizing, I can be a M or L for shirts/jackets depending on the brand. My nano puff is a M as is my R1 and now my R2. Sometimes Patagonia can be a little boxy and also short in the sleeves. Not the case here. It's a great fit for someone with a longer, fit but not bulky build.

Absolutely love the R2 Techface. I bought mine just under two years ago for winter use and have used it for snowboarding, staying warm at the crag, as a warm sweater under a thick down jacket in -30 degree weather, or as a sweater/jacket in the Belgian winter. On cold sunny days I don’t need much more than this if I’m wearing a long-sleeve base-layer.I usually wear Patagonia Medium, but got this Large so I could add a light synthetic insulation layer under it when needed and still have the techface cut the wind, but it is a bit ‘baggy’ when I wear it over a T-shirt.- very warm- very sturdy- cuts wind very well- the techface’s DWR also protects against a drizzle/light rain- not extremely breathable (which is why it’s warm)- 3 very handy pockets

R1 and R2 TechFace Jackets: Different but AWESOME!
25 March 2020

I'm writing my review for the R2 TechFace and R1 Techface simultaneously because both of these jackets, though seemingly the same, are very different. Both, however, are awesome! See the review of the R1 TechFace with the same title. As for the R2, although I gave the R1 a 5-star rating, I gave the R2 a 4-star rating because it is a very different cut. The R2 is very wide and somewhat baggy versus the R1 which is a very trim/athletic fit. It is also pretty heavy weighing in a 18 oz (for some reason I am always suspicious of a garmet that weighs more than 14-16 oz). I am also somewhat concerned that this piece won't keep the wind from blowing up underneath the waist hem because it does not have a cinch cord for the waist. Also, I would agree with what many other ... MoreI'm writing my review for the R2 TechFace and R1 Techface simultaneously because both of these jackets, though seemingly the same, are very different. I am also somewhat concerned that this piece won't keep the wind from blowing up underneath the waist hem because it does not have a cinch cord for the waist. Also, I would agree with what many other reviewers have said, you could easily size down if you wanted a more trim fit. I didn't want to beacuse I do not like my jackets short. I nearly returned this jacket upon thefirst impression; however, I got it for such an amazing price that I had to give it a week's use before making a final decision on it. After a few days I started to realize I was looking at this jacket all wrong and decided to keep this jacket. Once I started to look at this jacket differently than a warmer version of the R1 TF, I realized it really is awesome. Bottom line, despite the 4-stars, I would highly recommend both the R1 and R2 TF jackets, just know what you're getting before buying either. What I love about the R2 is that it is warm, I mean really warm. I have been taking the dog for a walk early in the morning for a couple weeks, at times in the mid-to-low 30s and I'm very warm and comfortable, even with the wind blowing. I'm never too warm and I'm never cold. I would imagine that this is a great jacket for outdoor activities where you are not working as hard versus the R1 which is clearly intended for high-output activities. I do want to try this jacket in cold high output conditions to see how well it performs. I also love how soft and comfortable this jacket is. It isn't so big and baggy that it isn't functional but, rather, it is just more generous with plenty of room to layer underneath, and it is so much more comfortable and easy to wear. Basically, where the R1 is close-fitting (perfect for running in cold, windy, light-rain conditions), the R2 wouldn't work the same way. And probably most important is that the outer face of the jacket protects you from wind and light rain. This is the game changer which makes this jacket worth buying (even if you have the original R1 and R2 like I do). I can't wait to get out into the mountain and on the trail with this jacket (in very cold conditions. I also think this will be a much better option to wear at night than a down jacket if I need an extra layer when sleeping in cold conditions. For reference, I purchased a size L, I am 6' 3", 205 lbs with an athletic build.

Living in SoCal, I wanted something light, versatile, and comfortable to wear when it gets cold (I know the term "cold" is relative, esp coming from someone who lives here, but I actually tolerate cold pretty well). I tried the Arc'teryx LT Atom, and while it was comfortable, the fit was just off (too short and wide). This R2 TechFace (XL) fit me like a glove. Seriously. Long in the arms and torso, and snug throughout, it instantly became one with me. Light enough to wear around the house or on a plane, and warm enough in 40 degree weather (probably even in the 30s) with a regular short sleeve shirt, it's quickly become my go-to jacket. It's just wind and water resistant enough to protect me from our elements here. Versatile R2 TechFace Jacket

This fleece is extraordinary. I am 6'1 and weigh about 200 lbs. I bought a large size. I could easily fit into a medium size if I wanted to be more snug and wear fewer layers. With the large size, I can put on a hoodie, sweater, or other layer underneath, which works for my more mixed use where I use the jacket both casually (more static activities or walks) and for more intense activities (running, hiking). I really appreciate that the jacket is a bit longer than most, so it covers my waist even when I am squatting or bending over, and protects it from wind and cold air. This thing is incredibly cozy, the grid-like interior pile is comfortable. I usually run hotter and was undecided on whether to buy this or the R1 Techface. I'd like to try both, but this one meets my needs when I am in temperates between approximately 0 and 10 degrees Celsius with a minimal base layer, or in colder temps with a thicker base layer or an extra rain shell. It definitely has much better wind resistance than my other fleece jackets. It has already impressed me on a few windy days in southwestern Ontario. It's really versatile and I think you get what you pay for with this fleece. If it fits your niches, I'd say go for it.
