No stories here about using them on trips to Amazon or free climbing in Eldorado Canyon. I'm a 70-year-old guy who needs to take daily mile or two walks -- rain or shine -- to keep A1C numbers down. I have paired these pants with the 3L jacket, have walked in rains so heavy that streets were flooded and closed. Every time (most recently Monday) I got home, took them off on the back porch, shook them dry and never found a molecule of water on base layers. These babies are as advertised. I am no longer a gore-tex or nothing person. Combine performance with price and Patagonia's eye toward corporate responsibility and color me a loyal fan.

Durable and affordable.

Quality product and good to have for backpacking and camping in Alaska. I had to get the 2xl because of COVID weight, but they still fit well, just had to pull them up higher than normal because they were a bit too long. I am 6ft 1in tall and have a pretty substantial beer belly. I had no issues with the waist, totally comfortable and the drawstring is very durable and reliable.

Expected to be good.

These waterproof pants were purchased for a family member to use if needed on recent travels. Fortunately, the weather was dry so there wasn’t opportunity to really put them through the test. The Torrentshell jackets have been highly rated and it is expected that the pants would be as well. They have a slightly baggier fit to accommodate pants underneath and a thicker 3 layer feel. Likely, they will be perfect for the wet days of fall and winter when dog walking becomes messy on the east coast.

I'm a 70 year female
19 November 2022

I'm a 70 year female who needs to be able to layer lots of warm stuff under my rain pants. While these were a bit too big, I can live with that because I successfully layered the stuff I need to keep warm. I bought a "short" in these pants and while they were still long they sat perfectly on my winter boots. I LOVE THESE PANTS. Our trip to Lake Superior was all the better because of them.

Major leaking in crotch area.
10 June 2023

My first Patagonia product so I had high hopes. Purchased last year and had some light use. Finally wore them in some actual rain today and within 15 mins my crotch was uncomfortably soaked. Was not even doing any activity just standing. Basically useless as a rain pant given this experience. Fine for light mist I guess. Hopefully a one off. On an up side I contacted the Patagonia store and they said to return them for a refund or replacement. Hopefully just a defective pair. I will send them back for a replacement and report back but certainly disappointing as a first experience.

Ok but need to be updated

I purchased these pants and can confirm that they do fit large, I’m 6’0” and 190 lbs, average build, typically take a large but definitely a medium in these.Overall I’m a Patagonia purchaser and have several items from the brand but I think these are a bit dated from a material perspective. I will end up returning these and purchased a pair from OR, GORTEX PAC-light, although more expensive I found they have nicer material from a noise perspective, longer side zipper and a bit of stretch vs the Patagonia pants are noisy when you walk and I found the material and fit not as good from a mobility perspective, however the Patagonia pants do feel more durable. So some trade offs depending on what you are looking for.

Poor waist adjustment design
11 January 2022

I really wanted to like these pants to go with my Patagonia Torrentshell 3L jacket. However there is virtually no elasticity to the waist and shoe string for drawcord that is slippery and doesn't tie well. It's more suited to a pair of pajamas for bed than for hiking gear. You feel like you're going to end up with your pants around your ankles at some point. I believe the 3L material is waterproof but the drawstring waist is a non-starter. A shock cord with a plastic cord lock retainer like on the Torrentshell jacket skirt and hood adjustments would be a huge improvement.

Simple no frills pants that do the job

Was excited when Patagonia went to 3 layer construction - more durable, more comfortable, more breathable. And at this price point you'll be hard pressed to find anything else in three layer.I'd call them mid weight - still quite packable but not ultralight and also not super heavy for extensive deep backcountry useBut again they aren't designed with either use in mind - just a good daily driver.Fit is good I'm 30-31 waist and went medium which is about perfect for layering and movement. Small would have felt restrictive I think. Easy on over boots with the 3/4 side zips. No waterproof zips but haven't had any issues with leakage with the flaps.I mostly avoid rain pants unless is a long day or rain or really coming down so these fit the bill without any ... MoreWas excited when Patagonia went to 3 layer construction - more durable, more comfortable, more breathable. Again 3 layer, to me, is always the way to go and this makes it easy without breaking the bank.

Simple, effective layer, pretty packable

Have had these for a couple years and have used them infrequently over that time. But they're great for wet weather hiking and can work for biking in a pinch. Used recently on a bikepacking trip and got caught in the rain. I'd recommend using a strap of some kind to cinch in the ankle area by your drivetrain. They work really well to keep you dry! The material isn't the most breathable, which is both good and bad. It'll help keep you warm and you can use the vent zipper to moderate temps a bit. But you may have to reduce your exertion level to prevent getting sweaty (and risk getting cold in the rain). Fit is baggy, which makes layering nice and easy. I'm 5'10" 175lbs and the medium is great, still on the large side. Wrong features

If this is supposed to simply be a pair of overpants to keep you dry, then the pockets should allow me to access the pockets in the pants that Im wearing underneath. If these are meant to be actual pants, then it should have at least belt loopsAdditionally, its missing some very very simple niceties that other companys basic goretex pants have, like some loops on the bottom cuff to tie some cord to (that loop under your boots arch to keep the pant leg down so you dont need gaiters), pockets, and BELT LOOPS.Missing the cord loops for your boots and having an elastic cuff just results in your pants riding up. Its a lose-lose feature. Very not well thought out.If they want an elastic cuff with no cord loops, it should be an interior elastic cuff, like with most ... MoreIf this is supposed to simply be a pair of overpants to keep you dry, then the pockets should allow me to access the pockets in the pants that Im wearing underneath.
