Worry not A little bird tells me that after listening to its customers, Pataks will be reverting to the old recipe Expect to see it back in the shops in November Thats why a 5 review not only excellent pickle the old recipe, but also excellent reactions to customer feedbackWhen the change came in I stocked up on the old recipe to keep me going, from outlets which still had stock of the old. I should therefore have enough to get me through the dearth until then, with any luck. Theres also a hot version which should be tried. What I dont know is how they will identify the new jars with the old recipe. Perhaps by removing the new recipe label. Perhaps by adding an original recipe label instead. Time will tell.

If you dont like lime pickle, I assume that you wont be reading this anyway. If you do, then I dont believe there is any better than Pataks. Most people use lime pickle as an accompaniment to a curry. I do too but I also use it for sandwiches, with cheese, cold meats and many other savoury dishes. I cant get enough of the stuff. Thats why a six pack for just over 1 a jar and free postage was far too good for me to miss.I shall probably be ordering a fresh batch in a couple of weeks.

Yes. I have to say that the new recipe for the Lime Pickle tastes of fake citrus flavour, like Jif lemon juice. Its that slightly artificial, over flavour that means you can distinguish it almost immediately from the real thing. To give some background, me and my partner go through a standard jar of lime and a standard jar of mixed pickle every 34 weeks. Before the recipe change, it was almost always Pataks now, Im unwilling to buy another single jar.I have been eating Lime Pickle for a good 25 years, all varieties, and would have rated Pataks among the best available on the average highstreet. Other cheaper brands can be a bit on the salty side, or have that fake citrus taste too, but the previous version of Pataks was lovely.I really do hope that Pataks revert ... MoreYes. This only came yesterday and already half the jar has gone - we are having it with cheese, BBQ food - not a curry in sight! Highly recommend. Not too hot either, prob more medium than hot.
This is a huge flavour booster and fantastic thing to have in the fridge, if you cook or eat curry. It is tangy and sour, in a powerful way - which I love, but probably isn't for all palates. I keep it in the fridge as it lasts months this way.Either I use to boost up an indian ready meal by adding a tablespoon on the edge of the dish. Or I add into my own homemade curries, by chopping up slightly first (as the lime is quite chunky) and then putting into the dish as I cook it. It has a lot of flavour, so you need to be careful in how you use it.It even works with cheese. Try a soft cheese like brie, and dab some of this on the side. It transforms the flavour!
Pataks used to make excellent lime pickle. The new, improved recipe, as the marketeers call it, is a sludge with most of its flavour coming from ascetic acid. You can no longer tell by looking what actually goes into making it, so presumably its cheap limelike stuff that they want to hide from view instead of the decent quality limes that were used in the old, longstanding recipe. Thankfully, there are real lime pickles available fom other manufacturers. If Pataks know whats good for business theyll quickly abandon this new lime pickle substitute recipe and not try similar good marketing ideas on their other products. If not, its been good doing business with you, Pataks time to say goodbye.
Ive just been encouraged at our kitchen table to eat some of this lime pickle with tonights curry. With one mouthful I shouted why does it taste like toilet cleaner. Typing lime pickle disgusting into google brought me to this review for Pataks Lime Pickle where I was reassured to discover others had had the same experience. Really, this tastes like a cleaning product, not food.
Used this to jack-up a chicken korma I got on a meal deal. WOW! A little really goes a long way... and well worth it! I was intending to make my own, but with this dynamite jar from the experts, there's no need. A dollop of their mango chutney only adds to the mix. Happy spice day!
This is a very good lime pickle. It is thick in consistency and has good chunky pieces of lime in it. As well as being delicious as an accompaniment to spicy food, it is also great added to a curry in the last stages of cooking. Excellent.
Like other reviewers this used to be a regular purchase for me - in fact I used to have to make a special trip to a specialist shop as normal supermarkets didnt stock it. I was so pleased when Ocado started sticking it but now no longer buy it because this new recipe is so unpalatable. Theres no longer any separate texture or flavour to this pickle I wish Pataks would read these reviews and do something about it!
