They last forever, you can bang the life out of it when agitating and it’ll just keep going. I have never had one fail by letting light in, so what more can you ask?The reels are very good, easy to use - with 99% of films - just watch out for those really thin ones, but those would task any reel. The reels can be used for 135 or 120 by opening them up but only takes a single film on a reel. (As far as I know).I’d recommend these for anyone beginner and upwards, although once you become experienced you may want to try jobo as they are easier to load the reels, better made tanks, and you can get 2 120s on a reel, but that’s personal preference. To be honest you can’t go wrong with these tanks and reels, they also come in a good range of sizes.

This is the first tank Ive purchased since deciding to process my own film at home. The product arrived exactly as advertised here. The reels were easy enough to load (I watched a ton of YouTube tutorials before purchasing) and I have not experienced any light leaks.Im giving this tank 4-stars because I find it difficult to completely seal quickly. Those first few seconds of developing Im fiddling with the lid to make sure it doesnt leak when I go to agitate. Because it will definitely leak if not completely sealed. Also, make sure the reels and tank are completely dry before trying to load the film. Otherwise, its impossible! It gets the job done but Ill likely be on the hunt for something with a different lid mechanism.

It does what it says and it does it well. Spools are adjustable for 35 or 120 film. Ingenious design keeps it light tight, yet you can pour liquids in and out without any light contamination, so developing and rinsing is a breeze. One thing I'd absolutely recommend (and why I took 1 star off) is to get different reels. The Omega reels (Also available here @ B&H) are far superior and easier to load due to their fool proof design. No more sweating in the changing bag, like I sometimes do with these stock Paterson reels. If you are buying this tank kit, buy 2 of the Omega reels with it to make your life easier.

I bought this to try out home developing while we’re all on lockdown (a familiar story, I’m sure). Tried it out for the first time today and was absolutely delighted with the results - I managed to process two rolls of HP5 with no problems whatsoever and the magic of seeing your own negatives come to life is just wonderful! I think this one will be a hobby that sticks. The tank remained leak free throughout, it was easy to pour chemicals in and out, and I found the instructions (on the Patterson website) very straightforward. I used the Ilford simplicity kit which I’d also really recommend for a beginner, and the Patterson light changing bag to get the films onto the reels. I really don’t know why it’s taken me so long to do this, I wish I’d known how easy it was ... MoreI bought this to try out home developing while we’re all on lockdown (a familiar story, I’m sure). Now, let’s see how I manage with c41 ;)(Nb: should probably have scanned the negatives at a higher resolution for these sample shots but one skill at a time, eh?)
I like this tank for the most part. I had been using a stainless steel tank which I purchased in 1983, and is still very serviceable. I am glad, because I cannot get Kodak films to feed into the Paterson reels without destroying the film. Ilford and Kentmere films feed beautifully, and I have developed 10 or so rolls of these in the Paterson tank. For Kodak films, I have been forced to use my old tank, and will continue to do so until I can find a solution for the feeding issue. Maybe different reels would help, I don't know. The Ilford films don't work with the stainless reels very well, so I guess I have to have both tanks on hand. Its all good. No light leaks with the Paterson. If not for the issues I have had with Kodak films I would give this tank five stars.
For a long time, I’ve always wanted to develop my own film instead of waiting for over a month to have them be shipped out and developed for me. That is no longer a problem now that I had purchased this tank. Before this, I had my chemicals, but no tank. So it was quite the long process before it had finally come to this. This tank is also easy to use so I didn’t read the instructions in the box I just watched a bunch of video tutorials prior to buying the thing. And thanks to the guys at B&H who wanted to be a little “extra”, by swooshing in another spool. What’s funny is that I had this conversation with a co worker about a few months ago on how the benefits of Polaroids is that you can take all the nude pics you want and they would develop on the fly. What’s funny is that I had this conversation with a co worker about a few months ago on how the benefits of Polaroids is that you can take all the nude pics you want and they would develop on the fly. Well now I can throw that burden out the window with this tank. Not that I want to take any nudes or anything, but in case a life threatening situation comes where I’d have to, such as someone threatening to kidnap my family for ransom in exchange for a nude pic of myself taken with a Canon T70, then this would come in handy. Overall, great item, and it’s changed my life. Well, in terms of things that have changed my life then this comes in second to Shrek.
Absolutely no instructions in the box. I have no idea what the extra piece rattling around inside is for. The box says instructions are available online, but I could find nothing. Could you not at least have printed them on the box if you're too cheap to print a piece of paper for the customer? Never mind that the instructions should have been IN THE BOX TO BEGIN WITH. The Downloads page on the website lists a number of products, but clicking anywhere and everywhere does nothing. The farthest I can get is to an OOPS page not found. And it's been a week already with zero response from the manufacturer. Seriously?
System comes with two reels, each of which expands to a 120 size (of which the tank will fit just one). The reels themselves come with a ratcheting mechanism - you can pre-load the film onto the reels and bring them into a darkroom/changing bag to finish loading the film quite easily. The cover (the funnel like piece) locks into place on top of the reel and prevents any light from getting in (make sure you attach and lock the cover in the dark). The cover acts as a funnel for liquid going in, and keeps things from splashing unnecessarily (save your chemistry). The little stick pictured can spin the reels inside directly to agitate the film in the chemistry without ever exposing it to light. If you want to invert the container with chemistry in it, you can attach ... MoreSystem comes with two reels, each of which expands to a 120 size (of which the tank will fit just one). I like everything about this other than the way the lid is designed. Even when I'm absolutely SURE I've sealed it as best as I can, it ends up dripping developer and blix after an inversion or two. Really shouldn't need to hold this thing over the sink while I work, but that's where I'm at.As others have said, it's also very hard to take this rubberized lid off without spraying chemicals all over because of the downward pressure.
thank you for fast shipping B&H, your website quoted like a week but it came overnightI'm use to working with stainless tanks, I've never used plastic before so this was a first experience. The tank is definitely large enough to hold extra reels than what were provided so that's a plus. But my complaint is that when agitating you have to make SURE your top is on secure unless you want developer all over you or your work area! The top doesn't sit well on the tank. That's my only complaint. Other than that worked great
