I can't lie, I went into this biased, full of excitement as my previous guitar broke a month before this released so I was bound to love it no matter what. It feels *very* high quality like it's built to last HOWEVERSetting mine up on the PC was a pain. After messing with it for 4 hours, it still wouldn't recognize as a controller. It eventually just started working and I still have absolutely no clue what I did to make it work. I've only seen 3 other people report this problem though. It's smaller than your Xbox 360 Rock Band guitars (unsure about rb4 guitars) which takes some getting use to. The lack of a "Select" button for overdrive is also a big annoyance as you are forced to use the unreliable tilt controls.Don't expect this to work out the box for games ... MoreI can't lie, I went into this biased, full of excitement as my previous guitar broke a month before this released so I was bound to love it no matter what. This is a good option for those looking for a different way to play Fortnite Festival on PC as well as Fortnite Festival and RB4 on Xbox consoles. The Guitar feels very high quality and having a warranty on the peripheral is great as the only other way to get a RB4 Guitar is from a reseller. The fret buttons feel responsive and having solo buttons lower on the neck is a nice touch. I often play later in the evening so the quiet strumbar and headphone jack are both welcome features I personally enjoy. My only gripe is that there is no select button and the tilt controls take a decent amount of motion to activate star power; not so much it's inconvenient but enough that you may feel silly when performing the action. Overall, I would recommend this Guitar to anyone ... MoreThis is a good option for those looking for a different way to play Fortnite Festival on PC as well as Fortnite Festival and RB4 on Xbox consoles. So, I've been using this for about a month now. It's "decent". Not bad but not good either. The guitar will feel very similar to typical Rockband guitars being both the Strat & Jaguar. If you like the frets & strum bar from those guitars, it'll feel the same in that aspect. However the tilt sensor is really annoying. Sometimes you have to go to a full or near full vertical tilt to get it to activate & then it won't register till you're back to normal horizontal playing. Other times the sensor just activates whenever it wants. The strum bar feels semi mushy after some use & it squeaks a bit now as well. There is no button to activate the star power / overdrive like on the Strat, at least not in the same place. I haven't checked to see if what is that same button ... MoreSo, I've been using this for about a month now. It's "decent". Not bad but not good either. Xbox button plus other buttons are oddly placed & take getting used to where the new locations are. Charge cable already failed after 2 uses. Whammy bar is odd, feels longer than the Strat & gets in the way at times when trying to use it & it also falls down out of place. The joystick is useless for Rockband but works for Fortnite festival. Also not sure what the PDP button does. Nothing as far as I can tell. All in all, it's decent especially if you need a new one but it could've been so much better. They really should've reached out to a lot of the veteran Rockband player base that still play the game for a QA / R&D on it before releasing. It's pretty clear that this one will need mods for fret & strum fixes in the future like the old RB guitars do.I'd recommend but purely based on that these are the only instruments that have been made in years.

Controller works great on Rockband 4 on Xbox One Series X. Also works great on Fortnite Festival on Xbox and PC without any configuration required, works exactly as a guitar hero controller with no button mapping required on those games. Controller works great with Clone Hero on PC but it required RB4InstrumentMapper program with vJoy software which are easy enough to setup but rating 4 stars due to no available manufacturer resources to get it working on PC but thankfully Google/Reddit helped me out. So far the controller has no issues, feels great and the rechargeable battery is lasting as advertised. Strumming is nice and quiet compared to the old Guitar Hero controllers. There are 5 colored buttons on the upper neck which do the same as the usual buttons but no 'tap/slide' pad which is just fine. Other than standard features, it is great the pickguard comes off to store the dongle so it doesn't get lost! Overall the best modern guitar controller on the market. Only time will tell if it holds up as well as the old GH controllers and if the manufacturer can effectivly manage any support inquiries. Hopefully the proprieatery battery lasts for years and/or is replaceable if ever required.
Comparing this guitar controller to the Mad Catz Rock Band 4 Stratocaster and PDP's previous Rock Band 4 Jaguar controller, I'd say this ties with the Strat; the Jaguar was honestly a big downgrade, so it places last. The Riffmaster WOULD absolutely be a 10/10 guitar controller if they had done a few things better feature and functionality-wise.First, the FEEL of the guitar frets and strum actually are great; a much better improvement over the Jaguar. The Jaguar suffered from stiffer, longer traveling buttons, while the Riffmaster doesn't have that issue and feels closer to how the Strat does. The strum is what you'd expect from a Rock Band style guitar, silent and functional. No complaints there. Not to mention the folding neck, brought back from the Jaguar ... MoreComparing this guitar controller to the Mad Catz Rock Band 4 Stratocaster and PDP's previous Rock Band 4 Jaguar controller, I'd say this ties with the Strat; the Jaguar was honestly a big downgrade, so it places last. The strum is what you'd expect from a Rock Band style guitar, silent and functional. No complaints there. Not to mention the folding neck, brought back from the Jaguar design, is brilliant and handy.Where I run into issues are mainly 3 areas: the tilt, the "view/select" button placement, and overall limitations with what games can be used with it. Out of the gate, the guitar instantly works in Fortnite Festival (I cannot attest to Rock Band 4 as my Xbox is broken, I'm sure it works there too), but on the PC side of things, it does not register as a controller to other games whatsoever without using fan-made software. The guitar controller should work regardless of what game is being played, it's still a controller at the end of the day; let people use it however they want. The tilt is an annoyance because I have had nothing but trouble trying to get this to work when I need it to the most. It either activates when I want it to (albeit at a higher degree angle than is necessary and comfortable; feels like 70° or higher) or not at all. It may be fine if playing while standing, but while sitting? It can easily just ruin a combo by moving out of a comfortable position so drastically since the guitar is resting on your lap. Thus leading into my final problem, the "view/select" button placement. Ever since the beginning of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, the "select" button was always an alternative to activating star power/overdrive, and it's honestly the best way for experienced players to optimally play and achieve high scores. But for some reason, since the Jaguar, you guys (PDP) have tried to move the select button as far away as possible from the strum bar so it isn't comfortably within reach of the pinkie finger or even the side of the hand. The Strat has had the perfect placement, resting right where it can be hit without needing to move the strumming hand whatsoever and able to activate with the side of the hand; VERY comfortable and accessible for everyone. Reaching for the d-pad is extremely dumb because not only is one of the buttons another alternate activation button, it's also a strum button; meaning you can try to activate and miss at the same time because of how out-of-the-way it is and can be easily hit multiple parts of the d-pad mid-song.I honestly would have preferred if there was that select button or just an entirely dedicated overdrive button placed closer to the strum bar so I don't have to lose my streak just trying to figure out where my button is and reach for it. Extremely huge oversight in design personally. As it stands, because of those major gripes, it loses points compared to the Strat. But because it's got a LOT of improvements over the Strat, it still ties in the end. I still love how it feels when playing, it's just the major part of overdrive activation was not thought out more, especially for the hardcore players. I would still recommend it otherwise for people who do not have a guitar controller and want something of higher, newer quality. Price is a bit steep, but it's cheaper than what would be sold for worse on eBay lol
Its been at least a decade since I last picked up a plastic guitar. In that time, I had a daughter, gave her an appreciation of what is now considered classic rock, and taught her to read via karaoke. To fine tune her pitch, I went and bought Rock Band 4 strictly for the singing, since buying a used guitar controller that worked on the newest systems was like hunting for treasure. When PDP hinted at the upcoming guitar controller, I knew I had to get two. Now my wife, daughter and I are akl jamming out to the hubdreds of songs I have collected over the years. The riffmaster fits my hands like an old friend. Everything feels great, the strum bar isn't too mushy, the fret buttons push down nicely, its not too clicky. Riffmaster reviewI grew up on rhythm games so I absolutely love to play Rock Band and Guitar Hero style games so it is so nice to finally have a new guitar controller that works like a dream to play Rock Band 4 and Fortnite Festival. I absolutely love it because it makes my gaming experience so much easier to play when you hold an authentic feeling guitar controller opposed to a standard one, I took it right out of the box, installed and began playing no calibration was needed. Its battery life is unmatched compared to any other controller of the sort that I have used up until this point so I have the ability to finish the games that I would normally have to ration my time on and at the same time it recharges at such a unbelievably fast rate that I am still ... MoreRiffmaster reviewI grew up on rhythm games so I absolutely love to play Rock Band and Guitar Hero style games so it is so nice to finally have a new guitar controller that works like a dream to play Rock Band 4 and Fortnite Festival. The sound quality is virtually flawless and just adds to the reason this item is a must buy if you want to upmost experience with these style games. I feel I was fortunate to get one of these because I’ve noticed they are sold out at a lot of vendors online. Right out of the box the guitar looks beautiful and has a high quality feel to it. If you prefer a realistic feeling controller you will not be dissatisfied the buttons are perfect size and as large as other controllers and are smooth and super responsive, it is downright the nicest controller I’ve used to this date so i give this piece a 5/5 it truly the best feeling Rock Band guitar ever looking forward to the many hours of future grinding in Rock Band 4, its now begun to make me eagerly anticipate the release of Rock Band 5 !!!!
The feel is good, the build felt nice, the features were very convenient (folding neck, storable dongle, great strum bar, good materials). but there are a few things that hold it back significantly compared to the Rockband 1-3 guitars. The buttons (both normal and solo) are further away from the strum bar so it made it harder to begin tapping with your strum hand and strum w/ your elbow/palm. The buttons initial felt very nice getting that feedback from pressing them down but overtime, it definitely fatigued my fingers faster than the other guitars which had no feedback upon press. I returned my guitar because the sensor in the whammy bar malfunctioned and could not detect gradual input. It couldn't even differentiate pressed and unpressed consistenly anymore.

If you’re looking to buy you know this is your only option. That said, PDP has done a dang good job.
