.the handles though!?

So as you can tell by the title, Im not a fan of the grab handles on this bag. Peak Design designed a bag that is great in every way, but one. The slightly-less-than-doctor-bag like opening, the very nice and large zipper, and the well placed attachment loops. The thoughtful side flap magnets that keep them nice and neatly folded when the shoulder strap isnt in use. The weather proofing, the perfect carry-on size, and the very durable nylon material made from recycled plastic is all so great. Then theres the handles (and to a lesser extent the shoulder strap). The magnet barely holds the two sides together and even if they did, theyre flat and expecting people to hold them, how they look to be intended, makes no sense. Theres only one way to hold these barely-magnetized-at-all-so-why-even-do-it handles and thats to hold them flat, together. Put one stacked on top of the other, then roll the handles a full turn, just to keep them from coming apart while holding the bag. But why Why should anyone have to do this, (and you should if you want to hold this bag by the handles) just to carry their $130 bag? I dont know why the same care they put into literally every other detail, didnt get put into their handles and strap, but it definitely did not!

Bought this to use as a daily bag for everything from an overnight trip to lugging camera gear for a day trip into the mountains. As they do with most of their products, Peak Design pays a lot of attention to the details. The material looks great but feels very sturdy, and the straps all feel very nice. The outer pockets are useful for small items but the sleek design makes it difficult to put anything thicker in there. Think a toothbrush or small book, but nothing thicker. The main compartment is deceptively small, but still plenty big for a fully expanded set of medium and small PD packing cubes. If there’s one downside, it’s what many others have mentioned: the magnetic handles. The magnets aren’t quite strong enough, and when you try to pick up the bag with them ... MoreBought this to use as a daily bag for everything from an overnight trip to lugging camera gear for a day trip into the mountains. The magnets aren’t quite strong enough, and when you try to pick up the bag with them attached, it’s not very comfortable and they kind of slide apart anyway. They could probably make the handles more circular and the magnets a little stronger to fix that. Otherwise, this is a stylish and strong bag for daily use and I’m excited to see how long it lasts for me!

I have the Peak Design 45L travel pack and was looking for something smaller for shorter trips. I bought this instead of the 30L travel pack because I wanted something more versatile as well. This bag fits the bill perfectly. It's just the right size for airline carry-on or a trip to the gym, with more organization than a typical duffel. And it's more compressible than a hard-sided bag. Yes, the magnets in the handles are barely adequate to hold them together, and it might get uncomfortable in the hand with a heavy load (although my sage version has leather handles that are fairly soft). The straps also don't make for comfortable backpack carry for more than a short distance. But I tend to favor a crossbody carry for this kind and size of bag, and for that the ... MoreI have the Peak Design 45L travel pack and was looking for something smaller for shorter trips. Best. Duffel. Ever. Period.
8 January 2020

I waited a long time to buy this bag. I watched the video reviews and then finally pulled the trigger (during a sale of course). I can’t say how happy and satisfied I am with the quality and capacity of this bag. It fit my needs perfectly and passed the arbitrary and spiteful (in my opinion) Spirit airlines carry-on test with no problems. It has excellent outside pockets for a passport, boarding pass, mobile phone, keys, etc. and a large main compartment to stow all your carry-on gear. The only thing missing is a dedicated or padded space for a laptop or iPad but I’m willing To overlook that for this sturdy and good looking bag.

Great Bag
21 December 2022

I bought this to replace my over ten year old Cinebags Cinematographer bag. Unfortunately, Cinebags no longer makes this and their CB01 and CB11 are too big for what I need, the Travel Duffle 35L fits the bill perfectly. I paired it with Peak Design's Large Camera Cube which gives me the full customization I need as each shoot is different. With the cube I'm able to pack lenses, matte boxes, filters, my light meter and much more. The exterior of the bag is durable and waterproof, another added bonus! I definitely see myself getting a lot of use out of this bag for the next twenty years.

Perfect for underwater housing, strobes and arms
11 March 2023

I set up an Ikelite housing, compact dome port, strobe and two arms over an EOS R6 Mark II and RF 14-35 this morning. Then I slipped this 11 pound rig into the Travel Duffel 35L with room to spare. After the rig is pressure-checked overnight, we'll take it to the dive shop for its first underwater tests. The bag is perfect for that. Or for taking a set up underwater rig from the hotel to the shuttle. It's the perfect tool for the job.

Really good duffel

One of the better duffels out there. Quality and durability are second to none. Side pockets organization is awesome. Great gym/weekend travel bag. Handle magnets are kind of weak and the backpack mode leaves much to be desired though.

Sturdy and Weather Proof!
10 April 2023

I use my duffels to keep my bad weather gear and tools in while out in the field. My bag stays outside in the elements all day. And so far I think this bag will be the best that I have had. 65L is the perfect size for me. The detachable handles scared me a little bit until I got my hands on it and found out how hard they are to take off which was a comfort to me. I have yet to give the weatherproofing a good test, but the material seems very good.

I've been eyeing this particular bag for a long time. I am an owner of many PD products and so I knew that this bag would be another awesome bag to add to my collection. Hands down, it is built very well. I love the material used and the pockets and zippers internally and externally. The duffel does not completely collapse on itself like other duffels and does feel more protective. It is probably heavier than similarly sized counterparts but the functionality and design really makes up for a little extra weight - which I prefer! The shoulder strap/sling is comfortable and I really can't say enough positive things about this bag. If you have packing cubes, you can use them in the duffel without a hiccup. Very thought through and well made bag

I just received this bag so this is a first impression review, but it’s an incredible bag. Each feature of this bag is well designed and gives the user plenty of options for pockets on packing smaller items inside and medium sized objects on the exterior pockets. The inside is very wide and opens up very big for easy access of your clothes and things. Overall construction is robust and the stitching seems to be very strong from what I can tell. I like the over shoulder strap due to its large cushion and comfortability. The backpack feature is okay, in a pinch and your arms get tired or need to distribute the weight it will work. Not the most comfortable that way but it’s not supposed to be a backpack so keep that in mind.
