I had to urgently buy a 1615 Air recently (for $1000!) to add to a number of older Pelican (pre Air models). The cases are lighter than earlier versions but remain as strong and sealing against water is not compromised, an absolute must as some of these cases are used in beach environments. I prefer the yellow case for this reason and while I think the black case with yellow inserts is the best color combination, I am not sure why it is sometimes impossible to get a yellow case with padded dividers as a set. If you need water sealing and a case you can actually stand on, Pelican Air is at the top end and remain the benchmark for this type of protection for your gear. Be wary of the weaker/less durable cases coming onto the market if you need the highest level of ... MoreI had to urgently buy a 1615 Air recently (for $1000!) to add to a number of older Pelican (pre Air models). I was in need of a new suitcase sized case and after much review I settled on the Pelican 1615. I have been using pelican boxes for 25 years at least so I was very optimistic. Yes the air model was lighter than the regular models so this was great however……..THE SERVICE I RECEIVED WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST I CAN REMEMBER FOR AN ONLINE ORDER. I needed this quickly for a trip and I received it in THREE days after I ordered. The sales person was extremely polite, understanding, and helpful. I will definitely do business with them again.

Are they expensive? yes. Are they worth it? absolutely.Bought these to hold my camera equipment - lights, camera, action! Held up very well through various major airports, they did come away with some scrapes and scratches, but all my equipment was in tact and stayed in place.

A fantastic hard case in every way! Pelican is to hard cases as Kleenex is to facial tissues or Chapstick to lip balm. It's the gold standard and for good reason. I've had the 1535 Air case for the last couple years and loved it. Still in great shape after over 200 gigs. That said, I was a little concerned about the Air case in this size, but the 1615 is solid all the way through. The only thing is the TrekPak only comes with two 17 and two 30 dividers to cut from. So if you're trying to fit a lot of small to medium sized things like lenses, accessories and such, I recommend purchasing the extra TrekPak dividers for $35 more. All in all, I couldn't be happier about this purchase!
I've brought this case on several flights and it's really the perfect solution -- not just for my light kit but for miscellaneous equipment, too. The case itself is extremely lightweight, even filling the thing to the brim with cables and other gear it weighed in only around 40 lbs total. Definitely recommend for air travel.
Pelican for the win once again! Solid case with lots of space to travel with mostly everything you can think of. The TSA locks give an extra sense of security when going through an airport with lots of different hands handling the gear. The lid organizer comes in handy.I do wish the case came with some additional foam padding on the bottom and possible even around the edges. If you have things in the case such as lights, tripods, or other things you don't want to get banged up against the bottom or side of the case, that extra layer of padding would be helpful. I also haven't quite figured out how to best utilize the packing cubes for my camera gear needs. They seem to be just too big for any of my wrapped cables, and too flimsy without any padding for anything ... MorePelican for the win once again! I needed a travel case for fly fishing and considered a lot of options. Protection of expensive equipment and security were my main concerns but so was value and durability figures into that. I searched quite a bit for used Pelican cases as well as every other sort of case I might convert. Used Pelican cases cost near these prices or more and were heavily abused, gun cases were dimensionally too long for std check bag size and awkward to lug with other travel bags, and old suitcases were just ridiculous. Then I found Pelican Cases For Less and actually, it was the best deal because the cases are brand new, they have ALL the models, and all the colors. I went with a Pelican 1615 AIR in light gray because it was the lightest and largest check size bag for airlines and it fits all my gear. I waited a bit longer for shipping than I could have gotten from other stores but that helps save money (That's the "For Less" part) and I'd rather have the savings and be patient. Now, I'm looking forward to fashioning some organizational elements to make more fit in and be better organized. I got what I wanted at a fair price and have peace of mind every time I close all 5 latches. I'll probably buy another one too.
I've lost count of how many Pelican cases are carrying my gear. Then Pelican changed the game again with their Pelican Air line of cases. Significantly lighter and this is especially helpful when you're flying with gear and trying to keep it under 50 Lb. The build quality, strength and features seem to be identical to the regular, heavier cases. The new latches (which seem to be copied from Pelican's Storm cases line) are excellent. Pricey, yes... but worth every cent.
I love this Pelican case! It is the exact dimensions I was needing. The latches have a button to press before unsnapping, making them the most effortless latches on a case I have ever used! Such a nice detail! The depth of the case is perfect for my 600mm lens, a 400mm, a 70-200mm, a 24-105mm, a 50mm, a teleconverter, and two DSLR bodies inside. I also added an array of accessories such as spare batteries, remote shutters, a spare tripod head and a couple other things. This case is a monster for space! I truly can’t speak highly enough of it!
This is my second 1615Air that I own. I fly a lot with video production gear, and the lighter weight of these cases gives me much more weight to fly in gear, which is always the struggle with a large case, and why I typically fly with smaller cases.Add on the TrekPack, it allows me to pack and unpack gear faster on site for jobs, and also do a better visual check as I pack to make sure nothing is forgotten or left behind.I'm typically a Nanuk supporter, but this case has made me think twice. I thought these cases with their lighter weight would crush easier, but I have been flying with my first one for over a year now, with zero issues.
