The Waitrose description isn't quite right. This is full-bodied, powerful (14.5%) and yet very smooth. It's a strong balance of Shiraz and Cabernet - other wines that combine these grapes often get it wrong, but this is great. It has a deep woody smell, a delicious bold smooth and creamy flavour in the mouth. Great by itself, but would accompany a rich curry or peppery steak absolutely perfectly. Fantastic.
If you are used to not so good tasting wine then you may like this but I have a level for wine that I judge it by. And although there are many wines i have not liked but were able to appreciate this wine does not fit into either of those categories. Not for me and has been refridgerated for cooking with in a couple of days. Penfolds wines are good some even great but not this. Not for me. It is young , fresh , but too peppery.
Another red that ocado is pricing beyond its quality level. Wouldn't be bad for a ?8 wine. Very high alcohol but that characteristic is all it can boast about. There are much better wines at the current price point. Unfortunately you can't buy any of them at Ocado.
Over the last few years my first choice has been Malbec but having tasted PenfoldsKoonunga Hill i will return to it again and again, like finding a long lost friend.And what good price.
19 Crimes Red Blend has been our favorite winter red for a number of years. Don't buy it if you like powerful red wines. Smooth drinking similar to the best Merlot's. Ladies love it.
I purchased a dozen bottles to add to my cellar so I haven't tried any of this lot yet. But if it's of the same quality as all the other dozens of Jacobs Creek Double Barrel bottles of Shiraz I've enjoyed over the years it's bound to be a very good wine, and at an affordable price.
Red Wine is my drink and I have seriously found my forever favourite. I have never encountered such a smooth drop. I shall return!
