Delivered on time. Perfect, brand new Penn quality with directions, paperwork, paperwork and extra spacers for line spool. Reel is properly greased from the factory- with Penn's really thick blue grease. I was sort of expecting a refurbished or slightly imperfect reel- but it is absolutely brand new and perfect. The box was also factory sealed. Incredible price, delivery and service!

Probably the best all round reel for NZ conditions in my opinion. Nice and light while at the same time being able to handle large snapper and medium size kingfish. I use it to throw spinners, slow jig and bottom fish with ledger rigs from a boat. The retrieve rate is slower than most spinning reels so it has really good cranking power. It has a large power handle which makes it nicer to use than my Spinfisher VI 6500.

BATTLE III 6000 THE BEST

Just got my 6000. You could not do any better. Gears definitely better than the 5000. Do not like the high speed. More power with this one, especially om bigger fish like bull reds. Loaded it with 50 lb. braid. Always put a shock leader like mono for give and you will never break the braid when casting. Not the reels fault for line brealage. For the price it it absolutely the perfect reel. Already used it in the surf at Corpus and caught some reds two over sized. The drag is smooth and great. No problems so far. Love the handle too

Best Reel on the Market in the Price Range

This reel is a true bang for your buck. I own the Penn Battle III DX 6000 series and have used it pretty frequently with minimal maintenance.I bought this reel around 2 years ago when it first debuted, and as of now have not had any issues with it at all performance wise. I own quite a few fishing reels and the thing I like most about this reel is its durability and dependability. It comes with me on pretty much any fishing outing because I am not afraid to bang this reel up. Not to mention it's nearly 1/5 of the cost of my other "big fish reels" and performs just as well. Personally it does not bother me all that much, but if you are someone who does care about that then be prepared for that.Overall I would highly recommend this product. Excellent reel, all metal body and sealed bearing

Penn is a workhorse when it comes to saltwater fishing. I use this reel for slow pitch jigging targeting grouper and snapper the HS feature is a big plus for pulling fish out from the bottom. I own 3 Penn battle reels a 3000 for inshore species a 5000 for some big fish and this one fore bottom fishing. All of them are excellent reels, never had any issue with any of them.

Great Reel Series

Battle III a real steal at nearly 40% off in end of seasaon sale. The Battle line is a tough, dourable, and versitile salt spinning reel I use for taylor blues, spanish macks, speckled trout, and puppy durm. The 4000 and 3000 sereies are great for the pier and surf paired with a medium power rod. Step down to a 2500 paired with a medium light for more of a fighting challange. Use the 5000, 6000, and 7000 series paired with heavier rods for some early fall drum fishing were 6 or more ounces is needed to hold bottom.

Great reel but quality control needs improvement

Recently got a Battle 3 in the 2500 and the 3000. Love the reels the drag is the best in class. The quality control on the finish of the reels is to be desired. Both reels had imperfections in the black finish allowing the white paint to show. The 2500 had specks of the black finish missing, while the 3000 had large section of finish missing on the bail arm and specks missing on the body. For the price of these reels one expects better quality control.

Quality reel at a fair price

When I saw the Penn Battle III's on sale I immediately purchased a 2500 size reel. I have been using it for saltwater inshore fishing and so far I am satisfied with the purchase. The reel is small, light, smooth and strong enough to handle just about any inshore species except perhaps a larger size tarpon, which would require a reel that holds more line. My only reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the line lay on the spool is slightly top heavy so I will need to make a washer adjustment and re-spool it to correct.

Reverse lever is missing

I bought this reel (2500) for steelhead fishing at Erie streams. Good drag is very important for this type of fishing. I also owe few previous models and they are good reels. So, I figured it will be a good match for my new Loomis rod. First time out, while fighting big steely, the reel started spinning in reverse. I thought I accidently "knocked" the reverse lever. And then I noticed that this reel is missing reverse lever (switch on the bottom of the reel) completely, so now you can's spin the rotor in reverse; you either have to pull on the drag or flip the bail. Never seen this before! What can I say: PENN is cutting costs. In my opinion there are less expensive reels with better quality out there. And for this one: going back to Cabela's.

The best deal in town

Been looking to buy a conventional or spinning reel for fishing a popper for these local tuna. After doing some reel shopping and getting some intel on the feel and price ranges, i decided on getting a penn battle. I also checked couple online stores and when i checked Bass pro, i couldn't believe they had the reel that I've been shopping for at a great sale price.I couldn't get my credit card out fast enough to make the purchase.
