Great value rod and reel for snapper. These Penn reels are bullet proof with good salt water corrosion resistance and super smooth drags. Bought this one to replace a 10 year reel that was starting to age. Have 4 of theses combos and swear by them.

Got the one piece 7ft 850 reel combo and you can feel the solid build straight away. It's got what it needs to land a bigger fish be aware it's not a light setup to hold onto for long periods. First catch was a 55cm Mulloway and it easily reeled it in and the drag was working super smooth.

Very disappointing. What was in the photo wasn’t what I got. There was only a rod, with no reel or line. Very misleading.
Visiting Oz from upstate New York for most of the summer. I shopped this item well before I traveled to Australia then purchased it at the Victor Harbor store as soon as i could. No regrets at all. It is a great quality combo well suited for all types of surf action. I have used it from Goolwa to Waitpinga thus far with great success. Planning to take it on trips up the Gulf St. Vincent and over to Yorke Peninsula during my summer stay this trip. The action of the rod is very good. I went with Mono rather than braid mainly for cost considerations. I met a few blokes who go for sharks and they use big game setups with much more powerful line and bigger rigs but that's not for me at this time. I will take the reel home and use it in Lake Ontario with downriggers for King Salmon and Steelhead Trout after I return to the USA. The rod stays behind at my girlfriends house until I return next summer. Great value for the price and you can't go wrong with Penn brand name products.
Decent. First time to buy a rod that's not a Jarvis Walker. Definitely an upgrade. you can feel the quality.
The reel does not lay the line on the spool evenly. The line is loaded much higher on the back of the spool than the front which causes loose loops of line to come off the spool and create tangles.
seams like a good rod and reel so far, i opened it up to grease it already had a decent amount in it, other known brands have a little grease in them unfortunatly. chrome stuff will corode quickly if not looked after.
I bought this PENN Spinfisher SSM Spinning Combo, 12Ft 8-12kg 2 Piece because I was after a particular rod that was similar in weight and strength to a french fibreglass blank which I had used to fashion an excellent surf fishing rod many moons ago.I’ve now been very pleased to find this very much improved action to that old fibreglass blank with this new PENN Spinfisher SSM. Love it.
Good rod, except for the plastic parts that hood the reel on. It snapped, will require warranty, other then that, great reel and feel for the rod.
