I saw this reel being advertised as clearance for $150, very hard to pass on this deal. With spinfisher vii coming out soon the only main upgrade would be the gear and for the price they want for it, I would gladly stick with my spinfisher vi. Now I can cast further and can easily reach area that i want my bait to land compared to normal reel.

I use the Spinfisher 7500 Long Cast for Surf Fishing. The Key technology in this reel is while reeling the bail lays the line on the spool from top of spool to bottom at a slower rate. (approximately 20 revolutions of the bail to get from top to bottom) This translates in a line release during a cast that has less friction and more distance.

I received the PENN Spinfisher VI LC (SSVI7500LC) as a gift in April. It was for Striper fishing at the Cape Cod Canal. My first trip was Memorial day weekend. Friday it seemed to be fine, but then Saturday morning the drag could not be adjusted and the reel/spool was tight turning. When I removed the spool I found broken pieces of material that looked like it could have been the drag washers. I spent the extra money to get a better reel and hopefully longer casting, but needless to say I was very disappointed. Glad I had back-up reels. I only go to the canal once a year, so I returned the reel to Cabelas seeing it was under the 30 day policy. I did not want to risk getting a replacement, not using it until next May and have the same issue when not under the 30 days ... I realize defects happen, and how a manufacturer responds is very important. This is why I would recommend it. I may try it again, purchasing it closer to Memorial Day weekend.

Got it at the first of spring for a couple surf poles I made, and always us PennGreat for easy casting long distance reel, hold a lot of Brad, and overall feels greatWaiting on 2 more for my old 13’ custom rods , with the heavier 9500ssAn like to get the 5500 too‼️
I've got the 5500 paired up to an Okuma Nomad 10 ft travel surf rod and spooled with 20 lb braid. Casting distance is impressive: I can get to the big perch, croakers, rays, and leopards 80 to 100 yards out with a 4 oz sinker. Drag and retrieval power are good. This is one of my two favorite surf rigs - the other is the Fathom 25N on an 11 ft rod.
I own 8 Penn reels and do all my fishing out of Corpus Christi, Tx. I purchased this reel, as I wanted to try the long cast spool. The reel is a solid build and has a smooth wind and it took under a week to receive it from the day I ordered. This reel will be my primary lure casting reel, as I use my Penn Torque 2 for bait. The only thing that could make this reel better, is if it had and auto bail, instead of manual. As for fishing line, I strictly use Power Pro Maxquatro.
I tried this on my 8ft Terramar Inshore while I waited on my order to arive. But now it's on my Tsunami 932xh it's a good match size and power wise to this rod but would easily still be a good fit on up to an 11foot medium or 10 heavy rod, I wouldn't put it on a medium light or less unless you somehow managed to find an 11+ foot which you can probably get a better setup anyway.Anyway for the reel it's built tough enough haven't seen any signs of water getting in or any other problems like that.Have yet to notice any signs of beach, boat, or truck rash yet, and while I don't masochistically throw my gear around, I certainly don't baby it eaither. It does cast a mile without having to go super light on your line. The only problem I have run into with it is that ... When you reel up and start laying line over the gap in lays it can cause both distance as well as wind knot problems on your next cast. But it has an anti reverse switch which I flip to get the line lay back more to where it should be, before reeling up.
I own both the SSVI6500 and the SSVI6500LC and I've been very impressed. It's well built and extremely durable. The HT-100 carbon drag system is smooth under heavy loads. The rotor spins smoothly with little resistance for a reel that has plenty of seals to keep water out. It's water-resistant rated IPX5 which means it can take dunks and splashes like a champ. The SSVI6500LC its a bit larger than the SSVI6500 to make room for the taller long cast spool and is slightly heavier. I don't why Penn designed the SSVI6500LC with a plastic clicker gear. Everyone knows plastic clickers will eventually get shredded when big game fish goes on prolonged runs. The standard SSVI6500 has a metal clicker and has a loud metallic "Ting-ting-ting" sound which its very audible and ... MoreI own both the SSVI6500 and the SSVI6500LC and I've been very impressed. I bought the 5500 Long Cast version about a year ago and have used it for soaking bait and throwing .75oz + lures in the surf and from the jetties in the gulf. Been consistently using 30lb. braid on 10' and 11' surf rods. After each trip I gently rinse with warm water and shake dry. I have had no mechanical issues and no wind knotts. I have not dunked it yet but I can not argue with my experience so far. The distance is great and the reel is smooth and feel powerful. Compared to other similar reels it might feel weighty but not enough for me to complain about. I'm not sure I would want to repeatedly cast with the larger versions but the 5500 is perfect for my application. If you wish to try a long cast and like the Spin Fisher line this is a no brainer.
I have fished this reel hard for a season and have only two complaints. the knob on the reel handle wore out, not surprising considering my usage cycle. its mentioned that the spinfisher5 is highly water resistant, and to a point it is. the reel will let you know its wet inside at which time you should take it to your reel guy, the worm gear spool oscillation didn't look like fun to me.I throw metal jigs in the surf with this reel on a 10'6" fast action 70/30 split rated 10-20 line 3/4 to 2 oz. although the reel is somewhat heavy it balances well with my optimized rod butt length on this setup. I would've bought another one to use while my reel guy had it last week but due to lack of availability i got a conflict 2 LC instead... The spinfisher is a much more ...
