When it arrived on Saturday morning I was not disappointed. It has become a regular 'go to' lens for my K3 MII. It is heavy, I will not lie but, it is very versatile that's for sure. The tripod bracket serves well as a hand grip for both landscape and portrait images. Focusing is spot on. Very pleased. Long may the Pentax name continue.........

Arrived quickly and in good shape! It is a beautiful lens - but heavy! Good thing you can attach it to tripod! So far takes great pictures although since we are in winter, not as much to take pics of. Will definitely use in spring and fall on trips to mountains.

I needed a better zoom for my Pentax K-3. I shoot a lot of Boat Racing and my DA-L 55-300mm just wasn't quite up to the task. I've had my eye on this lens for over a year and finally pulled the trigger. WOW!!! is putting it lightly. My keeper rate soared and the color and clarity of my shots have also improved. The focus on my K-3 with this lens is quick and I'm able to do handheld pans at 1/60th sec. which really gives the impression of speed. I'm including several sample shots so people can see just what this lens can do. All my samples are cropped from the original shots. You don't have to be afraid to crop when using the K-3 with this lens.

This is one big lens. But I've found it quite manageable, even using it handheld and racked out to 250. The range is possibly its best feature, going all the way down to 60mm. And while I thoroughly researched it before purchasing (it's sharpness level is rated as excellent), I am pleasantly surprised at the crispness of the images. I used it for some portraits outdoors and the results are superb. Also, I took it out for a shoot in a snowstormthanks to the all-weather sealingand didn't have to worry one bit about it. It's built like a tank.
Hi, I have this lenses for 2 years now, what I like is silence focusing; still work with pre k-10 camera. Full weather sealing, Also, the lenses work with my MZ-3, MZ-5n, ZX-7 on screw drive auto focus, focus speed is almost the same. ( a plus when Kodak consider bring back the Kodachrome) I will try the lenses on both of my K-50 and my three film camera with the Kodakcrome become available. I have two DA 60-250mm, so I can shot at the object at the same time. The sharpness is very high even at the corner is very good with the hood on. The hood help cut down secondary (residual) chromatic aberration as well. Weight is not an issue since all my Pentax bodies is light weight. Will keep the lenses in use for a very long time to come.
I've thoroughly tested this lens on the K3 Mk III, and it's got even more life on this camera. Subject tracking is excellent with the new high speed highly sensitive AF system of the K3 Mk III. The optical quality of course is superb as many other reviews have stated.I just wanted to chime in on the AF performance matched with the K3 Mk III- take a look at this lens! It's size is just right, not too big and heavy for hand held action shooting, the speed and accuracy of AF is there, and the build quality is superb. As others say, it is slightly heavy, but it does not bother me. At f4, it is very good, but it gets much better at 5.6. Since it is an internal focus lens, at closer distances it is shorter than what you think, depending on the distance. Mine does not back/front focus at all, which is great. Zoom ring is stiff in the middle, it is not a fault. Focus throw is kinda short, so manual focus is not as easy as old Pentax lenses. IMO it focuses fast enough even in low light, and very quiet. I like it, but not perfect to give 5 stars, it is 4.5. I had a hard time to choose between this and the 70-200 ones, but I finally chose the 60-250.

The F/4 maximum aperture has not been as much an issue as I had expected; on my K-7 I confidently use up to ISO 1600 but with careful approach can go up to ISO 2500 and get excellent results. With lenses that have lower contrast and resolution, the image quality would fall apart by ISO 1600. If paired with the K-5, K-x or K-r, I expect one could go to ISO 3200 or even 6400 easily. For outdoor sports, I typically prefer to stop down to get better depth of field, so F/4 is not a limiting factor unless trying to capture very fast moving objects. As camera sensors continue to improve, I see the maximum aperture becoming less limiting. The construction is very rugged and solid. I haven't had a chance to try out the weather sealing, though. The tripod collar is well designed as it allows for easy removal of the mounting foot. Another nice feature is the collar rotates around the lens with detentes marking each 90 degree turn (very useful if I switching between portrait/landscape with a polarizer since I can just turn the camera until I feel the click and the polarizer does not have to be rotated). Like most Pentax lens hoods, there is a small slot that can be opened to allow access to any filter ring. The small details are all very well thought out. Compared to F/2.8 zooms, this lens is smaller and lighter while having a slightly larger zoom range. In some ways, the lens should also be compared to full frame 100-400 F/4 zooms since the APS-C format of the DA lens(es) have a field of view equivalent to full frame with 1.5x the focal length. The smaller size of the lens makes it much easier to carry around all day (I can easily hold the camera with lens and battery grip in one hand). The flexibility of the focal length range even allows for impromptu portrait taking on the wide end (given the smooth bokeh).
I had signed-up for a photography workshop at Wildlife World Zoo in AZ. It was recommended we use at least a 200mm lens, but the longest lens in my bag was the 18-135mm WR, so I decided to rent one first. After shooting with it all day, I was so happy with its performance, I decided to get one of my own. The images are from the workshop (Cheetah was shot through a mesh fence)
Having used this for 3 years now, but only occasionally but extensively, I suddenly had focusing issues while on a trip to Australia. Very concerned as I was taking once in a lifetime shots. Tried switching from a K3 to a K5 body and it worked but still concerned for future shots. Switched from auto focus to Manual and still had issues with focusing. Lens just went wonky. Upon return, took lens in to Canadian Pentax repair depot in GTA. SDM replaced for a charge with a new version of the motor ( their choosing ). Too soon to rate but initially seems to be working.
