This should be removed from the shelves. I'll start off by saying that I have no idea how this was approved as a baby product, ITS DANGEROUS. The installation was fine , easy enough. The gate puls easy enough but if you let go of the unlocking mechanism it locks and prevents you from pulling it further. What it doesn't do however is lock the retraction mechanism!! The fence is super easy to knock out of the clip and when it does it fully retracts at lightning speed. It needs a retraction lock. I will not be using this around my kids untill I've modified it WHICH I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO. How on earth this passed safety checks I have no idea!

We have a blind poodle and a new house with several sets of stairs. While our girl does well, there is one small set of stairs that is more dangerous for her than the others because it is tiled. We also have a full flight of stairs that we just want to ensure she doesn’t get hurt on, either. We purchased three of the 71” retractable gates and they work like a charm. Completeness of the solution to protect our girl and ease of operation for us were the most important features when we considered which gates to purchase. Another concern was how they would look. We chose these gates because they look much nicer than most all other gates we’ve reviewed. Installation turned out to be very easy and we couldn’t be more pleased with their performance. These have made our lives so much easier. We have two large dogs that we have to restrict access for a variety of reasons and these are the red hot ticket! They are easy to install, remove and they’re easy to use. We used to have gates and it was ******… gates need room to swing and fences are enough of a hassle that everyone just stays out of the rooms. These look very nice and they recoil in a Discreet little roll of not-in-my-gd-way. Get em. We have 3. We’re smart now and you could be too.

Excellent gate. Wish they had these for my first child. Cant comment on installation as that was my husbands job but didn't hear any profanity during installation. We used the the top of our stairs and being a main thoroughfare it is great to be able to retract it back once my daughter is in bed/someone is watching her as you don't need to wrestle with a gate every time you use the stairs. Only thing I would say is it isn't a "one" handed job, you definitely need to hands to open/close it. Other than that it is just great!
This gate is very annoying to use - we’ve had it for about 6 months, thinking it would get easier to use as we got more used to it but it never did. You need two hands free to close it, as the safety catch stops it early nearly every time so you have to turn the safety catch button again. If I’m holding something I have to go put it down just so I have hands free to use the gate. It seems like it should be a good design but it’s honestly such a pain to use that we started leaving it open, our dog going where he shouldn’t. I can’t imagine how annoying this would be if you’re holding a baby too. It’s child proof but it goes too far to be not user friendly, I do not recommend. We have switched back to a normal gate (with bars) and it’s far better.
Not very efficient or high quality as it appears the picture. I used it at the lower part of my stairs. Every time you open the gate you have to push this button, and even to close it. Caring a baby downstairs is not easy and trying to fiddle with the button and the opening handle is too much. Not to mention the lower handle broke in the bottom. I was hoping it would keep the desired width and open more like a door, without it coiling up every time. You have to push the button down to uncoil it, or else it locks up.
I bought this for my dogs, so I could open the front door and not to worry about them bolting outside or running up to the person on the other side. Set up is pretty easy and the gate stretches quite a fair distance, so works for wide hallways, like the one at my house. I would say that one-handed operation is not accurate. It can be a little tricky to unlock the gate, pull it across the doorway and then latch it in place before the mechanism 're-locks itself'. For me, it's definitely a two-handed process. But, it works, and that's the main thing. I have it sitting above my skirting board (I have big dogs), so my cats can slip under it too - very handy.
The price was right so we decided to give this a chance since one of our pressure mounted gates broke recently. We didn’t find the install as simple as the Youtube videos portrayed it to be, granted we have a weird house where walls don’t line up perfectly and the baseboards aren’t standard. We couldn’t figure out if it was acceptable to do an inside mount on one side and outside mount on the other. the end result was not great so i don’t know if that’s why or not. it’s kinda flimsy and there’s gaps for curious baby hands and body to get into. I felt more comfortable having the cheap pressure mount gates up. this i worry is going to come toppling down or one of my babes is going to accidentally pull it off the wall. we decided to uninstall and return it. I would recommend previewing the installation on YouTube before purchasing. We had this on the first floor of our house near a doorway. I can’t imagine installing this on either end of stairs if you have children. There’s better safer options available. don’t do it.
When installed correctly, this thing is rock solid. It's a somewhat confusing install and I bet most of the reviews that say it's easy to open have chosen the shallower incorrect install method, because once clipped in correctly this cannot be forced open (you'd sooner rip the screws from the wall than dislodge it). However, opening it can actually be a hassle a times, particularly if you do it one handed. Often it'll snag trying to unlatch and if you're holding a baby in your arms it can make it quite frustrating to get it to work fluidly when one hand is occupied. Once retracted it doesn't take up too much space and with no bars on the bottom it's a great option if you use a rolling bassinet or something similar. It'll stop pets too, when correctly installed there ... MoreWhen installed correctly, this thing is rock solid. It'll stop pets too, when correctly installed there is no gap on the bottom and an animal won't be able to force their way through it. Again, correct install is key. I just wish it was easier to open with one hand.
Cheap plastic drywall anchors are the worst. They're like the unreliable friends you have that always bail on you at the last minute. You think you can count on them to hold up your precious decorations, but nope, they let you down every time. They're like the soggy bottom of a cake that falls apart when you try to pick it up. You're better off using toothpicks and bubble gum to hang your stuff up than relying on those flimsy little buggers. Go to lowes/Depot to get better quality ones
