No matter how often you're on the road, chips or cracks in a windshield are something that's bound to happen at some point. When this happens, the likelihood of the damage spreading increases with every drive. However, it doesn't necessarily mean the windshield will need replacement. The Permatex Winshield Repair Kit comes complete with everything required to make professional-quality repairs to bullseye's and star damage of up to 1 1/4", including easy to follow instructions and photographs on how to complete the repair. This quick and easy kit requires no mixing and it is best performed in a shaded area. Once completed, the resin will cure in natural sunlight.

This is a very handy product to have access to... however in the instructions it says to squirt the tube of resin into the stem. It's a very tiny tube, and didn't state to not squirt all of it in the stem. Then later it says put the lid on... there's no lid to put back on, you twist off the bow tie "cap". All this is visible in my pictures. Then it says, a few paragraphs down, to use more resin!...but I don't have anymore. Hopefully this works to prevent the rock chip I just got from cracking the whole windshield this winter.

I watched two other videos about windshield repair kit usage. This one was complicated. To start, the print instructions were so small, I had to use a magnifying glass with my glasses on. I had trouble getting the plunger to the first hook and wire to hold plunger in place (kept coming off). In pulling the plunger, it broke in half during suction. Luckily, I had a 20ml. syringe to use but the whole process was interrupted. The end result was that not all the cracks were filled with the epoxy before curing in sun. I'll see how long it lasts. I would not use this brand again for a windshield chip repair. .

Easy to use except for the plunger. I accidentally pulled too much vacuum at whatever step that was. Not a problem tho. What was a problem is the plunger going too far when applying pressure with the syringe to force the resin into the crack. The plunger stuck for a bit - pretty stiffly - and overshot the detent on the plunger shaft when it did move. It caused a severe leak of resin from the lower part of the adhesive ring that took some doing to get it stopped AND cleaned up. Most of it was evacuated before the star (crack) could be filled leaving the bottom portion of the star forever unreachable and still seeable. Kit is ok and easy to use otherwise. I would recommend with the caution about the plunger sticking and causing a leak if lower detent is overshot.

I had developed about a 1 centimeter crack about 6-7 months ago driving on the highway. I kinda ignored it for a while because it didn't seem like it was spreading much. Today it had gotten to around an inch. My safety inspection is coming up, and I believe you can still pass with a 3 inch crack, I decided to get it taken care of today. I bought it locally and paid more than on here because I wanted to do it today while I had time. I looked over a couple of similar products, but I know Permatex makes a good product, especially with their RTV sealers so I went with this brand name. My main concern was that my bullseye is actually very tiny, and the crack is actually a line about an inch long. And the rubber piece only has a diameter of about half an inch. My main concern was that my bullseye is actually very tiny, and the crack is actually a line about an inch long. And the rubber piece only has a diameter of about half an inch. But the box said good for up to 1 1/4inch inches, so I gave it a try. Directions weren't that confusing, but I watched ChrisFix's video and it made a lot more sense. The syringe is just to fill the bullseye crack, but you can use the leftover resin to cover the rest of the crack during the last step, then place the plastic cover over it and put it in the sunlight. Overall, I'm very pleased with the results. The tiny bullseye just looks like a minor rock chip now. And the 1 inch line is very difficult to see. I would recommendthis kit for those that get to the crack early, or have one that's not spreading fast. Cons: The resin cap wouldn't go back on, so I used some tape to cover it in between uses. It'll be dry if I have to use it beyond a day. The syringe items I was able to get 2 uses out of, but it's really only meant to be used once. The second time I pulled off the sticky rubber, it ripped. If you've got a long several inch crack, you'll probably need more resin and several more plastic covers. It only comes with one of everything. I take it back, there's probably enough resin to do several inches, but you still need the plastic covers or something like it.
I was driving to Autozone of all places, to purchase a headlight bulb for my wife's car. About half way there, without another vehicle within several hundred yards, SNAP! I know this sound from having gravel flung at my windshield, and sure enough, right from where the sound eminated, two fresh craters appeared, with a crack glistening between them.I purchased this kit, which I have used in the past, with the headlight bulb, and rushed home. As this is a one time use item, I positioned it so that some of each crater was visible inside the double face sticky ring. I followed the instructions, completing the repair, and left it in bright sunlight for two hours. The final deal was to remove the excess with the provided single edge blade. If I didn't point it out to you, you would never know it was there, and the acrylic resin should keep that crack from ever spidering. The crack itself is invisible.
I'm sure this product works well when conditions are ideal but I was desperate on a cooler day and started without looking thru the full instructions. Applied product in heated garage but was disgusted when I realized it needed uv rays to cure properly. Once it was time for uv cure, I pulled my truck outside and put an electric heater inside and turned it toward my windshield to keep it warm enough to cure. In the end (3 hours later with overcast), it mostly filled in the bullseye. Some of the resin carved out at the outermost surface. Moral of the story, read all the instructions before you begin or have the professionals do it, lol.
This worked great. I used it on a nickel size stone chip and made my 17 and 15 year olds help me so they could learn.Get out all the parts. Read the directions.Figure out what you are going to do for each step before you start. (This should take the most time).Do it when you can park the vehicle in the sun for 20 minutes 45 minutes after you start during the last step to cure the UV epoxy/glue that it uses.My ugly nickel size chip was reduced to a tiny 1/8th inch spot. All the rest of it is now gone, and filled with invisible epoxy. All in all this kit was great. One spot in the instructions it tells you to replace the cap, on a tube you cut the end off of so there is no cap. This is the third time I have bought this product. I have used it to repair 2 rock chips on my own vehicle windshield and one rock chip on my daughter's car. The kit is easy to use with clear step by step instructions. The total repair time is less than an hour. The repaired chip is less noticeable and none have turned into severe cracks. I'm very happy with the results and the price is very economical. Saves you the time from calling a glass repair company.
I suspect the crack had already been filled using another product or the procedure is flawed., Even though the crack was still visible. I used the product following the directions. However, the product failed to fill the crack and ran down the windshield. I had to scrape off some of it that dried on the outside. Lawed technique? Putting it in the device attached to the windshield pressing in a ways and then withdrawing would seem to not allow the fluid to penetrate the crack, instead withdrawing it. My dad had a kit once, that you drilled a small hole in the glass and only pressed the fluid in. It didn't work. The staff were excellent in checking me out. They didn't recommend it specifically. The product failed on it's own.
I am a courier and am on the road regulary. i do at least one windshield repair every 3 months. i have used the rainex product and it is satisfactory. I followed every step on the permatex very precisely and it did nothing. I would have liked to repeat the process with the excess resin, but only one adhesive pad was provided and it tore-up on removal. so no second chance for this stuff. would like a refund, but I'm sure that will not happen. For me that is an expensive lesson learned.
