This is my “go to” RTV silicon sealer for many exhaust related repairs. This works great on muffler gaskets on lawnmowers or string trimmers, where perhaps you don’t have a new gasket. It also works great on automotive exhaust systems where there is no gasket. I like to use a small bead inside slip-on exhaust pipes or mufflers and then tighten the muffler clamp.Permatex has a long history of making quality sealers. I have used this brand for years and would recommend.

I did not want anything sticking to the pipe and stopping the gasket material from properly adhering or setting up. Very simple to use, I started by putting a continuous bead of the high heat red silicone around the pipe. Immediately while the silicone was still wet I assembled the parts. I did tighten the bolts slightly enough to see silicone seep around the edge and then left it to sit for about an hour. After that hour I came back and tightened the bolts a bit more to where I needed them. I then left this set up to cure for a full 24 hours. The gasket was easy to remove after 24 hours. I used this product in a hot water application. My application required creating a custom gasket (see attached pictures). I found the material to be very robust but at rhe same time pliable. I was able to mold it and cut it with no issues whatsoever. The product packaging is robust so as to prevent accidental piercing. Instructions for use are clear and concise. Overall a straightforward product that performs well.

The actual packaging design is helpful as it metal and allows you to squeeze the packaging out and will stay in the shape you leave it in. The packaging is created in a way that the cap contains a sharp point to pierce the tip of the tube. It also comes with a tube connector to apply the bead properly. The tube connector has premolded cutaway pieces to make it easier to determine where to cut off the tubing to make the bead. The warnings on the packaging and the actual tube are helpful as well. I would not use this product without gloves due to irritation and because it can cause cancer. Overall it’s a great product and helps you create a gasket in situations where another one isn’t available.

I would not recommend this product for contact with gasoline or head gaskets and I believe the product states that as well...that's high pressure and high temperature. Its great that Home Depot is covering such a wide variety of usable products, like this sealant. Usually you would go to an auto parts store and pay another 30% markup or have to wait a few days to get it in the mail for a reasonable price. The fact that Home Depot now carries this handy stuff at most, if not all, of its stores is great. I have a riding mower that uses a C clip to hold the transmission linkage together. The C clip has decided it no longer wants to stay on the linkage and I end up being stuck somewhere in my yard unable to go forward or backward as the pedal is no longer connected to the linkage. I thought about welding the c-clip in plave, however, it is then permanently mounted which could be a problem if I need to do some repair that required it to be removed. So I cam up with a shade tree mecahinc idea and simply put a blob of the Ultra Red onto a penny, whicjh I them placed on top of the shaft where the c-clip was mounted. Th end result being the c-clip now is being held onto the shaft with the Ultra Red and a penny. Together they hold each other in place and my linkage hasn't had a problem since. I'm confident Permatex wouldn't endorse that as a fix, but sometimes you have to get a bit ingenuitive when it comes to repairs, and this stuff comes in handy a lot for those times :)
