I have to just start by saying, my cat is a jerk. She tends to do things intentionally just to see what she can get away with, and few things will deter her for long. She is also very food driven and if she knows there is something to get into, she will do everything she can to get into it. So that brings me to this product. Yes, it worked for my cat, but I don’t see it working long term. Although she is scared of it and jumps down immediately when it goes off, she is already testing it often and continues to at least attempt to jump on the counter. I don’t see her being deterred by it for much longer. For cats that are more skittish than mine, this may be a better long term solution but I think it totally depends on the cat. I can’t be thankful enough for this tool!! It absolutely works!! We just moved into a new house and have two stray cats that keep finding a way into our garage and spraying it. We moved a lot of big items in there because we just moved in. It stinks! So I set this baby up facing the door where they crawl under so it’ll spray immediately as the enter. It really works!! The spray seems to be maybe compressed air. I can’t find the ingredients anywhere but it sprays on my hand and felt like air. If it is that that’s really perfect because it’s not harmful and just enough to scare the little ones away from our stuff. It happened today for the first time. Cat ran in the garage and immediately ran out scared as heck! I will be keeping this baby up until they get the clue ... MoreI can’t be thankful enough for this tool!! It absolutely works!! I was given the SSSCAT Automatic Pet Deterrent for my honest review from through SSSCAT and Influenster. Once I received my package I read through the directions and set it up on my counter. My cats will get on the counter when I have clean dishes drying or I’m preparing food. I’ve tried many things to keep them off my counter. So I thought maybe this might work. Once it was set up I was waiting for them to get on the counter. One of my cats decided to get on the counter. Then I spray and my cat running for her life for cover. She was extremely scared by this. She actually hid for the rest of the day. My other cat jumped on the counter as well later on in the night. When she got sprayed she looked around to see what it was. She then got sprayed again then jumped off ... MoreI was given the SSSCAT Automatic Pet Deterrent for my honest review from through SSSCAT and Influenster. So for me I think this product works well. I just felt bad for my one cat that was scared by it. So I think it’s worth a try if you’ve got cats in places you don’t want them.

A great idea/concept, execution a little less than good

The on/off button is kind of inscrutable. Red lights and green lights are flickering but they don't really seem to correlate with whether the cat gets sprayed or humans get sprayed. More often than the cat, we trigger the thing and waste its battery and its spray. If the on/off button actually worked, you could turn it off and only use it when you're not in the kitchen, but it never seems like it's turned off, and yet sometimes it doesn't spray when the cat jumps up. It also never seems like it's on, and yet it sprays me when I'm walking by. It's frustrating. But I like the idea and it does occasionally go off when the cat jumps up and she immediately jumps down. It doesn't always, though, so its impact as a real deterrent is limited, and as I said, humans waste a ... MoreThe on/off button is kind of inscrutable. Keep kitties off the table and counters

These are awesome. Great training aids. Just a small hiss of air and the cats are convinced that this is not the place to be. I have used this product over the years to help redirect/train my felines. After just a few interactions with the hiss of air and I don't even have to turn it on. Just put in place and they stay away. If reinforcment needs to happen, just flip the switch. Our new babies learned quickly (just two hisses and they decided that wasn't the place for them. I have an electric flat stovetop and was worried about burnt paws. No problem with this in the kitchen. They don't even attempt to get up on the counters with this in place. Thanks for carrying such a wonderful, gentle deterent.

Petsafe cat deterrent

First I thought wasn’t going to work then I thought it was cruel. My female cat was first to investigate and from my adt video it was kinda of funny watching her get rejected from jumping on counter. Her second attempt was enough to stop her from trying again so for her it worked great. My male cat on the other hand made his first attempt and quickly got a wake up call. But that didn’t stop him he made many attempts which was almost comical until he figured out he can jump from side and not get sprayed. However when he went to investigate closer he got sprayed and claws came out and he sent it off the counter to the floor causing it to stop working. It’s a great device and I’m gonna try again when I get paid.

Please bring back older model

I don't leave many reviews, hopefully Chewy will pass this on. It's a terrible update. I've had the older tan bottle version for 2 yrs and it worked. This one. Oh. My. Goodness. Here is my version "press the button until the green or red light flashes then it's on. If you want a shorter distance (they don't say what that is) press the button for 5 seconds then the green or red light will flash. If you want to turn it off hold the button and a green and or red light will flash." Well my husband and I followed step by step, light flashed red then green. Never made a sound, so we tried it again. Turned it off, and tried to turn it on. It never did anything. We both broke out in laughter. The dumbest thing ever. I know having cats I will spend money on things that are sort of a waste....this is just terrible. The variation of the button pushing with no clear confirmation of which stage you are in, ugh. The older version - On - or Off. Easy. AND cats stayed off the counter.

Product malfunctioned during the first use
1 May 2024

I just received my order and after setting up the PetSafe SSSCAT Motion-Activated Dog & Cat Spray, it immediately malfunctioned. The item started spraying and wouldn’t stop. The power button flashed red. I tried turning it off, but hitting the power button did nothing. I had to take the top off which ended up breaking off the spray head/nozzle. I captured it all on video but there isn’t a way to upload videos in a review.I’d previously purchased 3 of the older model, and then Petsafe took it off the market so I haven’t been able to buy replacement canisters. I had issues with the older model as well. One of them never worked to begin with. Utterly worthless, a total waste of money

This thing is the worst product I have ever wasted money on. I do NOT understand the reviews that praise it. We've been trying to use it for weeks now and have tried everything - different locations, different angles, different levels of light around it, etc, etc. We've followed every bit of advice and troubleshooting that exists on the internet, not just here but on every site we can find that has reviews and customer comments. And nothing has worked. When my husband or I walks into the room eight feet away and not even in the direction it's pointing, it sprays. When our cat jumps up onto the counter directly in front of it and only 2-3 feet away, it does nothing. I can wave my hand in front of it, fast or slow, and it does nothing. This morning I walked into the kitchen from the door at the COMPLETE OTHER END OF THE ROOM, 15 feet away and totally a different direction from where it's pointing, no sunlight or anything that would cast a shadow over there, nothing - and THEN it goes off. But ten minutes later the cat was on the counter batting things around 3 feet in front of it, and it just sat there, worthless.A total waste of money. I might as well have taken $50 and just lit it on fire.

Works great if your cats are scared of canned air
20 January 2024

I LOVE this motion detector spray so much that I purchased a second one after about a week. It completely deters our cats from the immediate area where they may set off the air. It works for us because both of our young cats are scared of canned air (like what you'd clean your keyboards with) and the startling noise it makes. This motion spray makes a similar, startling noise that our cats avoid at all costs.Nothing else seemed to work for us until now - placing foil, sticky tape, plastic spike sheets on the counters did not deter our cats at all. I avoided this product at first because of the mixed reviews and high price until I couldn't find any other options to try. This product may work for you if your cats are easily frightened by noises. It must be placed carefully and you'll need to avoid the immediate area. If you yourself can't avoid the intended area (like a computer desk where you're sitting all day), this product will not work for you.
