Amazing harness, comfortable and light are the most defining features.

I bought this harness back in February 2015, and have been using it every day at my job belaying people, and climbing in it just as much. It is so comfortable wearing for hours on end and holding the weight of climbers who are resting on top rope. The adjustable leg loops work perfectly for someone who has abnormally large quads, the belay loop is dyneema which I know has great wear resistance and strength, however the belay loop is small (compared to the traditional width) which gives me a little reservation on suggesting this harness for someone who expects to climb and use this harness on a daily basis, however once you understand the material strengths of dyneema you can easily trust this harness with anyone's life.

Awesome harness!

I initially bought a large under the general assumption that I buy Large for most everything, though too small. After returning through another provider, I found the XL size here at MJ and promptly ordered as there weren't many available. The XL was also too small.I learned two things here...One, do not confuse waist size for pants size. For example, I wear 34 pants, but have a measured 40.5" waist. Most ALL brand harnesses have similar size ranges, with XL being from 36-39" and the largest size offered. Two, read the fine red print as MJ lists, there are no returns on load bearing gear/devices. I read a lot of reviews and missed this (my bad here). Probably would have still purchased as I've not had an XL anything not fit, haha until now!All that said, I now ... MoreI initially bought a large under the general assumption that I buy Large for most everything, though too small. This is due to a double buckle setup providing additional extension/retraction over a single belted buckle. Also, allowing the harness to be centered throughout the entire range. And when I lose my weight goal, I'll have two nice harnesses! The Petzl Aquila is an awesome harness; lightweight and comfy, while having great looking construction and materials! Hope this review helps others fairly new to climbing and/or getting some equipment.

I have only climbed in Petzl harnesses. I think they are the very comfortable and adjustable for my larger thighs. I love the black and white classic color. I can sit and take a a break in this in complete comfort as well as belay for hours. I recently had a child and needed to size up & this is is a perfect fit. I am 5’4” 170 lbs.

Good Support for Harness
6 November 2022

Harness is super lightweight and flexible for gym and outdoor climbs. Has a lot of support for those with larger builds and is comfortable throughout without ever feeling constricted. Multiple attachment points means I have a ton of space to add my gear. Has held up well through multiple climbs but does take a bit to break in.

Has its benefits, but not my go-to

As far as the basic job of a harness, this is solid. I felt safe and supported while using it, even if I was a bit hesitant at first because of how light it felt. The gear loops look nice around the sides and back to carry what you may need, but only the two closest to the front have structure to them (which can be a pro or a con depending on how rigid you like those sort of things). I tend to prefer those be more rigid, as I find it easier to clip things onto them that way, so I wasn't a huge fan of the gear loop design on this harness. The belay loop also felt a bit short, I'd either have the waist belt flat and the leg loops real high up or the waist belt would lean forward when I stopped the leg loops from getting a little too intimate. I wasn't a fan of the gear loops or the size of the belay loop, but given how light and small it packs up there were bound to be trade offs.

Lightweight, comfy harness!
14 September 2022

I finally got a chance to take this harness out a couple of days, and I'll start by saying that it is extremely comfortable compared to other lighter-weight harnesses that I've used. When hanging the leg loops rode up far less than I'm used to and made it a much more comfortable climbing experience. I think the easily adjustable buckle system helped account for this a lot. These things are SUPER adjustable and I loved not having to yank on straps or play around with the system to get the harness fitting right. That said, they do scuff pretty easily (see my attached picture). This isn't super important as outgear gear is used well... outdoors and are inevitably vulnerable to the elements. The waist belt also scuffed up a little bit after only a few uses but again, not something I'm super worried about. These minor aesthetic vulnerabilities are the only reason I'm giving four versus five stars. The last great thing I would mention are the places to rack all your gear. There's a ton of room! The two loops at the side of the hips are rigid, which were annoying at first when I would hang my arm to rest for a moment as they would rub up against them sticking out. After toying with it a little bit I was able to get them to hang downwards a bit more instead of sticking directly out and it wasn't a problem. I didn't have any heavy gear racked on them, so I'm sure they'd naturally be pulled down and out of the way if you did. All in all, I really like this harness. Other than minor aesthetics that are prone to some wear, the harness is really comfortable and supportive. Don't have any functional criticisms whatsoever and think this will be my go-to for a while.

Perfect harness!

I absolutely love this harness. The quality is amazing and it adjust to fit perfectly no matter what I am waring. I added the new petzl ice clip and it couldn’t be a better fit. This harness is amazingly comfortable, I bought it to to do tree work and belay my kids but my new Battman Belt has renewed my sense of adventure so I am planning exciting climbing and repelling adventures for my kids and I. Life is good!

Simple, lightweight and good support
9 November 2022

I’ve been using the Aquila harness for a couple of months now. It’s significantly lighter than my previous harness but just as supportive and comfortable when hanging or rappelling. This is my first harness with the aluminum Doubleback buckles which are very lightweight and easy to adjust. It’s now my go-to harness. It’s light enough to carry mountaineering and comfortable enough for a day of climbing. Be sure to check the size chart though. My waist is on the smaller end of the medium harness but I have the leg loops about as tight as they’ll go. There is a decent amount of overlap between sizes and a small may have been a better choice for me.

Versatile and Stylish Harness
6 October 2022

The Aquila harness is the sleekest harness I have seen. The welds are practically seamless, and the tie-in points and belay loop feel bomber despite their relative thinness. Also, I find the tie-in loops to have plenty of room to actually tie in without being bulky, due to the very thin belay loop and well structured tie-in loops. The gear loops are very innovative on this harness, using an overlapping pattern that ensures you don’t miss the clip while cleaning a route. Five gear loops plus a small loop for your chalk bag ensures plenty of real estate for longer routes. The front two gear loops are structured for easy clipping while the back loops are not to allow backpacks to be worn with the harness. The adjustable leg loops really make for a superior fit. ... MoreThe Aquila harness is the sleekest harness I have seen. Finally, Petzl really came through with the packaging. It comes in a great reusable zippered pouch with just a tiny bit of cardboard to throw in the recycling. Overall, I think this harness is extremely versatile for most styles of roped climbing, but it would be particularly helpful if you want to carry a sizable rack without a sling.

Very Comfortable
6 April 2023

As a novice climber, I almost feel like this harness was too nice for me. This is a very well constructed, comfortable, yet light AND stylish harness. I feel like a pro or in a photo shoot for climbing when using it. I have a lot of trust and love for Petzl products in general, and this harness only reenforce my brand loyalty. For someone like me, a strictly indoor newbie climber, I can't recommend it enough. It is great all around, compared to the borrowed and rental harnessed I've used before at least. Honestly, for the price point it is a great investment IMHO.
