Petzl - Ascension Left Handed - Black

Depending on the distance one must travel and the age, condition, and weight of the individual, handled ascenders can mean the difference in reachinga destination with energy to spare or not. Ascenders lock in one direction and can be pushed, nearly friction free, in the other. SherrillTree's handled ascenders attach midline on ropes measuring 8 to 13 mm (5/16-1/2 in. dia) and have a spring-loaded safety latch that must be manually tripped to insert or remove rope. Each is left and right-hand oriented with the latch located thumbside for convenience and safety. Holes provide clip-in positions, depending on the application. All are made of lightweight aluminum, with formed hand holds for comfort. Handled ascenders have small teeth on the cam for traction in the presence of ice and mud and will cause accelerated wear to ropes with heavy use. Petzl's hand ascenders have a slightly curved tooth which is more effective in ice and mud. Left hand.

Bought my ascender after wanting one for years. Wish I hadn't waited it's amazing piece of equipment. It makes the job easy. If you need a belay device look no further.

I am a 64 year old man, 6'3", 255 lbs. I use this ascender for roof climbing and tree trimming. I know. Little old to be monkeying in trees, but I like to do things myself. The Petzl Ascender has yet to "let me down". Actually it "let's me down" perfectly.

Great piece of gear!
3 February 2021

Recently climbed the 3rd Flatiron and during one of three rappels, the rope got stuck. Thankfully had this ascender with and it made those pulls way easier. Great for ascending fixed lines as well, plus the black will be great to have when live events return for stealth mode.

So, these ARE my first set of ascenders, so I don't have much to compare them to... That said, they work better than I thought they could, allowing me to quickly and securely climb vertical ropes and hang from them without fear of falling. Smooth up glide, secure lock, and easy thumb access to the latch makes these a prime climbers tool!

Pretty much the gold standard for hand jammers. This is the third one I have owned. I hang my life off it, it works.

Petzl Quality - What else is there to say?
8 December 2017

I bought this (and a black one, L/R) for TRT/Search and Rescue. I got tired of using (fighting?) Purcell's for ascending a line. These are lightweight and I really don't notice them on my already-overloaded rack. The mechanicals are solid and smooth, and they grab 10-11mm rope just fine, slide up with ease, and don't seem to cause undue wear. The size of the lower mounting hole gives me plenty of options for attaching foot loops, 2nd points of attachment to my harness, etc.

The gold standard of ascenders
20 October 2017

This is everything you need in an ascender, it's light but feels bomber in your hands. Not tiny either, you could get a bear paw in there. Super smooth moving up the rope and the catch is easy to work with one hand. 'Biner holes big enough for about anything...just another solid Petzl product!

Wonderful piece of climbing gear.
2 December 2015

Exceeds expectations. This is a great addition to my climbing gear. it's so light I didn't notice it even on. It works flawlessly going up or down the rope. At twice the cost of other ascenders its a little expensive, but my life if worth it. Hope yours it to you too...
