For many years now, my emergency headlamp model has been getting both lighter in weight and brighter in lumens.I suspect the Bindi will end this trend, since at barely over an ounce it's nearly weighless, and since at 200 lumens an emergency light source doesn't need to be any brighter.Extra bonus points for a locked mode that is enabled simply by holding down the main switch for four seconds, and then the Bindi won't actually come on accidentally (unless the switch is held down for another four seconds) while forgotten in the deep recesses of your pack until you remove it months later to find the battery drained (a fear I have of all such neatly stowed-away emergency gear). And for any application, the bungee cord attachment system is both stable and comfortable, ... MoreFor many years now, my emergency headlamp model has been getting both lighter in weight and brighter in lumens.I suspect the Bindi will end this trend, since at barely over an ounce it's nearly weighless, and since at 200 lumens an emergency light source doesn't need to be any brighter.Extra bonus points for a locked mode that is enabled simply by holding down the main switch for four seconds, and then the Bindi won't actually come on accidentally (unless the switch is held down for another four seconds) while forgotten in the deep recesses of your pack until you remove it months later to find the battery drained (a fear I have of all such neatly stowed-away emergency gear). And for any application, the bungee cord attachment system is both stable and comfortable, while the swivel angle adjustment is helpful. Plus the included USB cord can make your household collection of those become even more impressive. However, I'd restrict its useage only to emergency purposes. For a dawn patrol, the 200 lumens lasts only two hours, and then the recharge time is four hours. And the 36m spec range is relatively short. Also, the very small switch would be tricky to operate with cold numb fingers inside bulky handwear, and the sequencing can be a bit confusing between the three-level white lighting vs red lighting vs red strobe vs off.But those are all quibbles for an application as a primary expected lightsource. By contrast, as a just-in-case item to bring on long tours that might get even longer in a bad way, this is a must-have headlamp.

After stubbing many toes walking to the bear bag while being swarmed by mosquitoes, I've ditched using the red light altogether because it was too dim. But to be fair... I've never liked any red light feature on any headlamp.Unfortunately... as with any rechargeable device with not-replaceable batteries, you can only recharge so many times before it dies. I'm a gear junkie and love trying new gear. But reliable headlamps are so important to me I'm not even thinking about trying something new. Without hesitation, I am buying a new Bindi to replace the one I wore out. I love this little guy and have complete faith I'll get another 3 or 4 years out of the new one.

Very pleased with purchase. Came down to bindi vs e+lite for a back up head lamp. The bindi is slightly heavier however this is the only draw back. Having 4x the lumens and being rechargeable are huge pluses. Also having red light is very important to me. So when came down to it, it really was not a hard choice. No regrets on,purchase. Thanks moosejaw!

Comfortable, light
19 March 2023

Great compromise between light weight and lumens. As I'm carrying a juice pack anyway, makes total sense to avoid carrying batteries. This headlamp is MORE comfortable than my other headlamps (Petzl, Black Diamond) because the lightness means it doesn't pull down or threaten to flop over the elastic. I haven't had it for long enough to know, but the tubular elastic feels more durable than the wide elastic strap of other headlamps, which gives me hope it won't stretch out over time and lose it's elasticity - a huge plus, if true, as every headlamp I've ever had, I've had to take in and shorten the elastic, long before the electonics wear out. I am optimistic and recommend this headlamp!

Great headlamp for the size
18 October 2021

This headlamp is great for the size and shape of what it is. The Bindi charges quite quickly (even with temperatures hovering around 0º C), and packs down to almost nothing. It charges via USB to Micro-USB, about 5 hours to a full charge when packed in a warm spot.If I had to bring up some faults, I would echo the reviewer who mentioned comfort/fit. It's not the strap that a bigger headlamp would have, so it does tend to dig in a bit (I wore it over top a toque and could still feel the string around the ears). This was wear in a later season trip, early dusk til bed, so about 3-4 hours. I think that for later sundowns and shorter wear, it's totally manageable fit. Only one red light setting. The Bindi is the perfect minimal headlamp; I would use it as a backup headlamp for when you know you'll need one for longer use.

Increases Safety for Night Runs
16 January 2023

I have used this headlamp 4-5 times for running at night overtop a wool toque and I have found it to be lightweight and unobtrusive. As others have stated, it is comfortable, it doesn't bounce around, and I often forget I'm wearing it. It has three white light intensity settings, and I either get one use out of it on the brightest intensity (approximately 1 hr. 10 min) or two uses out of the second brightest setting (approximately 2.5 hrs). Although it took a moment to figure out how to switch between the intensity settings, once I got the hang of it, it was easy to switch on and off. After switching off, the secondary lamp (to the side of the main lamp) demonstrates green, yellow or red depending on the amount of charge left. After switching off, the secondary lamp (to the side of the main lamp) demonstrates green, yellow or red depending on the amount of charge left. Even though I run on the sidewalk, I like that it increases the ability of vehicles to see me and also increases my ability to see the uneven and unpredictable winter terrain in front of me. No runner wants to slip on the ice and bruise or break something, or sprain their ankle. I would say it illuminates roughly 15-20 feet in front of me at the brightest intensity. Although Altitude sells Petzl headlamps with higher lumen ratings, I find that 200 lumens is satisfactory for nighttime running needs, and I don't want to sacrifice its lightweight nature for a bit more illumination (and a heavier battery). I don't need to see 30 feet ahead of me. Frankly, my eyesight is not that sharp and I'm focused on the path right in front of me anyways. It is easy to plug into my USB port for charging. If you can afford it, I would consider it a "must have" for the nighttime runner, especially for winter. If you know of a nighttime or winter runner, this would make a really thoughtful holiday or birthday gift.

Nice little versatile headlamp
17 March 2023

I was looking for something that would fit around my riding helmet that I could use for taking my horse back out in the dark. This fit the bill, and the rotating feature for hanging around my neck is a nice bonus. Adjustable brightness is great. I haven't used it long enough to comment on how well it holds a charge, but kind of a non-issue as I am only using it 5-10 min max at a time. So far, happy with this product!

One of the lightest and most reliable headlamps
6 October 2022

Sure you can find lamps that are lighter or cheaper but none that would come close to the price performance ratio of this. This is realistically all you need for hiking and backpacking trips. Its bright enough for walking on trails after dark and perfect for around camp. Red light mode is great for inside tent and the battery life is soo much better than cheap knock-offs on amazon or aliexpress.

Perfect Backup or Ultralight Option
16 March 2022

This is an amazing little lamp. I always keep it on my body, either in a jacket or shirt pocket to use as a backup headlamp. I also like to keep it by me at night in case I need to find something in the tent or make a quick trip outside. The three brightness settings are more than adequate. I also love the red light setting that can be set to solid or blinking. The light also stays on either red or white light once you turn it off. Meaning if set to red, it will turn back on to red--a big plus in the middle of the night. Having it be rechargeable is an absolute game changer too. Great item!

Powerful UL torch
15 April 2022

Hey everybody,I needed a compact lightweight headlamp for a 3 day backpacking trip to the pnw coast. After reading countless reviews this little guy consistently came highly recommended. The unit did not disappoint. It has intuitive controls that allow you to go from a battery saving low white light to a photonic sledgehammer with a few clicks. Another nice feature is the red light so you can avoid irritating your camp mates at night. A few more clicks and you have a blinking light for signaling. All in a reasonably priced and minute package that belies its impressive capabilities.
