IPS displays use an advanced technology that gives you extra-wide viewing angles of 178/178 degrees, making it possible to view the display from almost any angle. Unlike standard TN panels, IPS displays give you remarkably crisp images with vivid colours, making them ideal not only for Photos, movies and web browsing, but also for professional applications that demand colour accuracy and consistent brightness at all times. Ultra Wide-Color Technology delivers a wider spectrum of colours for a more brilliant picture. The Ultra Wide-Color wider "colour gamut" produces more natural-looking greens, vivid reds and deeper blues. Bring media entertainment, images and even productivity more alive with vivid colours from Ultra Wide-Color Technology. Gaming shouldn't be a choice between choppy gameplay or broken frames. With the new Philips monitor it doesn't have to be. Get fluid, artefact-free performance at virtually any frame rate with AMD FreeSync technology, smooth, quick refresh and ultra-fast response time. The new Philips gaming display has quick-access OSD fine-tuned for gamers, offering you multiple options. "FPS" mode (First person shooting) improves dark themes in games, allowing you to see hidden objects in dark areas. "Racing" mode adapts the display with the fastest response time and high colour, along with image adjustments. "RTS" mode (Real-time strategy) has a special SmartFrame mode that enables highlighting of specific area and allows for size and image adjustments. Gamer 1 and Gamer 2 enable you to save personal customised settings based on different games, ensuring best performance. Due to the way brightness is controlled on LED-backlit screens, some users experience flicker on their screen which causes eye fatigue. Philips Flicker-Free technology applies a new solution to regulate brightness and reduce flicker for more comfortable viewing.

Good bang for the buck, but low brightness

The good: Bang for buck, this monitor is great- QHD resolution is fine and won't overtax your PC, solid build quality and, monitor stand is solid even though no height adjust, sound output works nicely, gaming features are good at this price point, warranty and support are excellent. The bad: The only real problem is that 250 nits of brightness means you don't want this is a brightly lit space. My nit pick is that the sleep behavior is annoying- it first goes black, then displays a message saying no video input, then says it's entering sleep, then actually goes to sleep. This is maybe no big deal to some people, but my old monitor would just shut down right away and that worked well with all my auto-power-down equipment in the office. Great monitor and great value

I have had this monitor for about two weeks and so far it has been absolutely great for my type of use (I use computer for personal and work-related tasks that do not involve gaming or professional work with graphics). The monitor looks great (it is almost frame-less, and its footprint on the desk is quite small and non-intrusive). I upgraded from a 24" Full HD (1080p), and it was indeed quite an upgrade. The text is crisp, the colours are great, and I can comfortably fit much more content on the screen. If this monitor holds up in the long run, it is a fantastic value.

Macbook M1 OS 13.0 cannot set HiDpi

Very good monitor indeed. Works with MacBook M1 but needed to set "scaled" resolution to get the monitor's native resolution as such, text is small. Cannot set HiDPI as the Retina display to only scale the text and not the resolution. Also, refresh rate is maxed at 30Hz - ah?! Though it's great for development to see Unity, VS Code, browser and game at the same monitor. I'd very much like to see a better Apple support for this great monitor.

Review of PHILIPS 278E1A 4K Ultra HD 27" IPS Monitor - Black

This is a really neat piece of kit, the image quality is excellent. The sound quality is Okay, but not brilliant.I wanted the built in speakers for the convenience and less clutter on the desk, so wasn't too fussed about the sound quality from the built in speakers. The unit has enough vision inputs for most needs and includes audio too. This unit is large enough to allow the screen to be set-up with multiple windows for multi-tasking. But not too large that it takes over the whole space.Would reccommend this unit for anyone who needs more screen space for multi-tasking, 4K image quality, built-in sound at a size that doesn't over-power your work space!
