Feel the difference of gentle cleaning with the pressure sensor while your teeth whiten in just one week. Thanks to this toothbrush with three cleaning programs, you can adapt your tooth cleaning to your needs. The "Clean" program is the standard mode for excellent cleaning. The "White" program is the ideal mode for removing stains from the tooth surface. The "Gum Care" program offers an additional minute of cleaning at a lower intensity. So you can gently massage the gums. Philips Sonicare's advanced sound technology rinses water into the interdental spaces and uses brush movements to dissolve and remove plaque for exceptional daily cleaning results. You may not notice if you press too hard while brushing, but your toothbrush will. If you strain your gums too much, the toothbrush makes a pulsing sound as a reminder to exert less pressure. 4-quadrant timer tells you when you have spent enough time cleaning each part of your mouth, while 2-minute timer indicates when you have reached the recommended two minutes. Safe tooth cleaning: Sound technology is suitable for use with braces, fillings, crowns and veneers and helps prevent tooth decay and improve the health of your gums.

Both these units (same model) suffered the same issue, hence me buying a different model the third time around.I only bought the third item from Philips as I have used their products for years and years without any issue, indeed I still have a razor working perfectly for over 20 years. There seems to be a design or quality issue with this particular sonic toothbrush model which needs to be addressed before it tarnishes their otherwise first class reputation.

I am 40-years-old, as well as a minimalist who always seeks out the best quality items to purchase for myself (and for others), because I have no interest in having clutter in my life from items that are sub-par or unnecessary.PRICE POINT: Average (in my experience).ASSEMBLY: This element is extremely simple! Just pop the brush head onto the brush and push down (you will hear and feel a *click*). It is normal to see a small space between the brush head and the toothbrush handle (do not attempt to eliminate this as it is supposed to be there), as this allows for flexibility as you move the toothbrush around your mouth.INSTRUCTIONS: Easy to read and well laid out. The quick-start guide will get you started, but I recommend reading the actual manual as well, because it will answer any questions you may have, as well as insuring that you yield the most life out of your toothbrush.CHARGING: Though the directions state that the unit comes pre-charged, I did not use my unit right out of the box. Rather, I opted to charge it overnight so it would have a full charge in order to begin testing the product without interruption (until the charging lights on the unit turned off to signal charging was complete).AESTHETICS: Firstly, this toothbrush is beautiful and modern-looking. The color option I received (and also would have selected on my own had I been purchasing this unit outright) is a nice bright white, and the control buttons are a lovely mint green that I quite enjoy. The surface of the unit is very smooth and sleek.ERGONOMICS: The feel of the toothbrush in the hand is very comfortable and I estimate that this size will fit a wide range of hand sizes. I personally have very large hands, but my hand did not cramp up at all while holding this toothbrush.WEIGHT: The weight is surprisingly light compared to my current brush (including all of the ones I have owned). The decrease in weight was a plus as it takes that extra pressure off of my wrist while brushing.BRUSH HEAD SIZE & SHAPE: I find the very sleek brush head very appealing. The neck of the brush head is long and narrow (much narrower than any of those offered by my favorite brand!), and the brush head itself is very small (3/4 of an inch), which means that you will be able to comfortably move the brush around your mouth, navigate dental work, and get into small spaces. (I personally have two bridges, several crowns, and a missing tooth where I am going to have an implant placed, so this size is very useful for effortlessly moving the brush around the mouth.)OPERATION & LOUDNESS: I found the buzzing vibrations in my mouth while this toothbrush was cleaning to be a bit strange-feeling and somewhat annoying (it is difficult to describe, but I am pretty sensitive to sound, and I am also accustomed to a circular brush head which operates and sounds quite different). Apart from the annoying buzzing vibrations, I actually found the loudness to be LESS annoying than my current brush. And the buzzing vibrations of the sonic technology are something you become somewhat accustomed to the longer you use this brush. Perhaps in another couple of weeks I will not even notice it.THINGS I DID NOT LIKE WHICH WARRANT IMPROVEMENT:(1) While some people may appreciate this feature quite a lot, I do NOT like the fact that the toothbrush automatically turns off after two minutes, because I did not feel that my teeth had been thoroughly cleaned by the time two minutes was reached.(2) My teeth do not feel as clean when using this brush as they do when I use my current brush. While I love how gentle the Philips ProtectiveClean 5100 is, it just does not seem to get the job done as well as I would like. (While this has not led to my re-brushing yet, I can still tell that my teeth could be cleaner and wish that they were.)(3) The spray factor! The vibration and buzzing from brush head tend to lead to a very annoying spray of toothpaste (even when you work really hard to keep your lips mostly closed around the neck of the brush), of which I am not a fan because I like to keep my environment very clean and do not wish to have to do a mini-cleaning of the bathroom area (or my clothing!) between actual cleanings. That said, I noticed that the spray factor was most likely to occur when I use traditional toothpaste in a tube. However! When I use just plain baking soda (or my homemade baking soda + coconut oil + peppermint essential oil), there was very little spray factor. The least amount of spraying was achieved when brushing with plain baking soda (which is actually great for your teeth, gums, and in the alkalinity of your mouth). Therefore I believe that users who prefer powdered toothpaste will fair better with this brush. In addition to the spray being reduced (when using a powdered option), the slight abrasiveness of the baking soda DID IMPROVE the cleaning action achieved by this gentle brush.THINGS I LOVE:(1) The look of the toothbrush. It really is lovely.(2) The travel case! The design is lightweight, sleek, and simple to use. The case holds your toothbrush handle as well as up to two brush heads. It does NOT hold your charger but I think that is a good thing because: (a) Travel/trips are often of a duration which works out well on only one full charge of the brush. (b) Moisture (from a toothbrush, for instance) and charging units DO NOT (and should not) mix. Of course you want your charger stored separately. The case increases portability and I really like that detail, because I have never had a case for my previous (or current) electronic toothbrushes.(3) The size and shape of the brush head and neck.OVERALL: Ultimately, I would give this toothbrush unit a 3-4 star rating, and I honestly believe it is worth a try because it might work out really well for you. I personally will continue to use it to see how well it does on a more long-term basis. The brush is gentle, light-weigh, easy to use, attractive, and very portable. As for how well it cleans your teeth, I think there is a fair degree of subjectivity to consider with regard to this factor, and only your dentist can truly weigh in as it pertains to how clean is sufficiently clean to protect your teeth and gums. (And do not forget to floss at least once a day after you brush.)

The product was great, but just shy of two years completely packed up. Spent ages trying to find a way to fix the battery that had died but Phillips had done such an amazing job of making the product unrepairable. To change the battery requires literal circuit board soldering - it’s 2022, a battery has been replaceable since the 1980s but they worked it out; make it impossible, warranty is just out - buy a new one!! Keep those shareholders happy and the public will keep buying new ones because battery’s! Well done Phillips on keeping your shareholders happy! The only kudos I can give.

This is a great toothbrush, but it does have a few negatives amongst a lot of positives.Pros - It was much smaller and lighter than my previous electric toothbrush, and also seems much more powerful. I think this has automatically lead to me applying less pressure when brushing, yet I still get a really thorough clean. I’ll admit I haven’t looked after my teeth well in the past and usually experience some bleeding and plaque build-up, but I haven’t had any bleeding when using this brush, and I can see less plaque behind my front teeth especially, which is where it builds up most. The head is much smaller than I’m used to so I’m using less toothpaste, and it’s easier to move around my mouth. Unlike my previous toothbrush, you can’t switch between the modes - regular, whitening and gum care - once it’s switched on which I originally thought was a pain, but actually it’s much easier as it remembers your previous setting so you don’t have to select it each time you switch it on. I have had it for nearly 2 weeks now and it’s shown no signs of needing to be charged, so the battery clearly lasts a long time. The charger is also very small and light, handy for travel. I can’t comment on the alert for changing the head as I haven’t needed that either yet!Cons - It buzzes every 30 seconds to alert you to change the quadrant you’re brushing, but I found this alert very very subtle compared to my previous toothbrush, so much so that I often nearly miss it. Equally the alert to tell you that you’re applying too much pressure is very subtle, and the light for this is tiny and right at the bottom of the handle so you can’t see it when brushing. The box only contained one of the three styles of heads - gum care - it would have been nice to get one of each to try. The main negative is the price though - I honestly don’t think it justifies its hefty price tag and I expect the replacement heads, being ‘smart’, will be equally overpriced. One thing to note is that there is a gap between the head and handle - the instructions explain this is normal and you don’t notice it after use - but I would think this would bother some people as it looks like it’s not fitted properly.
I bought this toothbrush after I got my braces off, thinking that it would be a great investment and a toothbrush that I would have for a long time. And I was right - it was a great toothbrush; my teeth have never felt cleaner and (with the aid of whitening toothpaste) I have really noticed a difference in the colour of my teeth. I am disappointed however because after only 3 years the pin that holds the toothbrush head has come loose making it impossible to use as there is no tension to hold the head in place. I thought this toothbrush would last me longer than just over 3 years. However this is my only complaint as the battery is still as good as when I bought it and my teeth are still just as clean with no cavities!!
I bought an electric toothbrush after having them recommended to me by dental hygienists and dentists for years. I asked one of them about how much I needed to spend to a get a good quality one, but not something more than what I needed. $60 was suggested to me, so after some research I decided on this one because it has a few features I wanted like the pressure sensor. I've been using it for the last 7 months, and when I went to the dentist yesterday for my next cleaning, the hygienist said my gum pockets were down from 4-5's to 2's! The only thing I'd changed about my oral hygiene was this toothbrush, so this has to be the reason! The more inflamed your gum tissue is due to bacteria and such in the gum line the deeper the pockets will be, so cleaner teeth and gums ... MoreI bought an electric toothbrush after having them recommended to me by dental hygienists and dentists for years. Although I love the way the Sonicare makes my teeth feel and my dentist is very complimentary as to the results I just feel this product isn’t as good as the last Sonicare I had. To be fair this may be a cheaper version but I’ve already had to have one swapped out as the ‘stick’ that goes into the head came loose after only a few months. I personally I feel the little circle you used to get with the heads made the head more stable putting less pressure on the ‘stick’.Overall, yes, I’d definitely recommend. The toothbrush does a great job but I feel, even if it’s just getting rid of the circles, there may have been corners cut.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first used the toothbrush so I went for the default settings initially. I have to say, I did not think I would be as impressed as I was, the toothbrush is powerful and intense but still very comfortable to use, probably down to the built in pressure sensor which stops the toothbrush if you are pressing too firmly, a feature I am most impressed with. Having this feature means I have actually changed the way I brush completely, previously I was brushing too hard and probably causing damage! Thanks to the sonicare I will avoid this in the future.Afterwards my teeth felt sparkling clean, The cleanest they have ever felt after brushing!I have some staining on my teeth due to having lingual braces fitted and my teeth moving, this has markedly improved in just the short time I have been using it, particularly using the ‘white’ setting on the toothbrush. I am confident going forward this will only continue to get better using this toothbrush. The toothbrush itself sits well in the hand when using and despite being so powerful does not cause any discomfort in the hands when in use. It is however, quite loud! Not so much that it would wake my small children but just a noticeable noise when in use, noted mainly by my partner in the bedroom next door to the bathroom. The shape of the toothbrush head fits perfectly around the teeth to enable you to clean the gums really well and get every angle around the teeth, this definitely contributed to the sparkling clean feel I experienced. My breath has stayed fresher for longer after using the toothbrush and it’s safe to say I am a Philips Sonicare convert, il never look back now!Overall the product is well made, easy to use, excellent quality, stylish and ticks all the boxes on oral hygiene, whitening aid and gum health.
I have been using a SonicCare toothbrush for 25 years. This is my 3rd one. The first two were very much alike and each lasted me 11 years. If the brush heads were still available I'd still be using my second one! However, I really like this newer one. It was easy to turn off the features I didn't care for and the bayonet-style brush head is much nicer than the screw-on ones of old. I like having a travel case and one charge lasts for longer than any of my recent trips! The charging base is compact. The barrel of the brush is a much smaller diameter; for me it's a bit easier to manipulate the older, larger diameter. However, I have adjusted and am quite pleased over all. Matte black was a nice choice, too, except it's a bit easier to scratch through the black than I ... MoreI have been using a SonicCare toothbrush for 25 years. This is my 3rd one. I have been using the Sonicare 5100 Protective Clean toothbrush for just over a week now and I think that it is wonderful. The instructions are very clear, the product is easy to assemble as well as use, and has a feature to ease you into the electric toothbrush vibrations as they can be a bit much if you are not already using a similar toothbrush (gradually increasing with each use for 14 uses). I had an older electric toothbrush made by a competitor and I find that the Sonicare is much lighter, more ergonomic and easier to handle than the other toothbrush. I also found that from the very first use my teeth were so clean that it felt like I had polished them leaving an almost slippery coating. I seriously could not believe the results. The charger is small and the brush can be placed on it all the time if a plug is available, if not the battery lasts for a couple of weeks and has an indicator to let you know that it is time to recharge. The vibrations are strong and fast so it is great that there is a pressure indicator to let you know if you are brushing correctly (it stops vibrating and a sound indicates that you need to ease up if you push too hard).Although I was so impressed with this brush, I felt like it was difficult to adjust to such a small brush head, my preference would be for a little larger one. The vibration is fast so you will have to figure out the best way to control the splatter/mess that is left on the sink and mirror, I found that tilting my head slightly upwards while brushing was the most helpful. Additionally, I found that the vibrations did get a little strong at times so I think it would be nice to have the option to select a slightly lower vibration level depending on your sensitivity day to day. Most of the features that I would alter are already available in an upgraded Sonicare model (brush head size, adjustable vibrations for each cleaning setting) so it is of minor significance. I love the Sonicare 5100 Protective Clean toothbrush and I wish I had made the switch earlier from the clunkier, slower, and heavier alternative made by the competitor. This is a quality product that I feel delivers the results that it promises. I feel very fortunate that I was given the toothbrush to review, it has changed my oral health for sure!
