Great first OLED
4 September 2023

The Philips 65” 707 OLED is a great first OLED.It’s elegant frame and design makes it a real center piece in your home, especially the 65” with ambilight turned on. The frame is a greyish black metal, the back is plastic, and the feet are a silver metal with some nice weight to them. The picture is spectacular compared to my old LED, the colours are vibrant and the blacks are deep. It comes with some nice settings including Dolby vision. I found that I did have to tinker with the settings quite a lot to get a picture I was happy with, even now I’m still not sure I’ve got it to my liking. I found that I did have to tinker with the settings quite a lot to get a picture I was happy with, even now I’m still not sure I’ve got it to my liking. I’ve noticed on some fast moving scenes that objects can create artefact's, I first noticed this on a persons legs as they were running fast. This seemingly also affects subtitles as in some scenes as the camera was panning quickly left or right the subtitles would briefly get broken up and jump around the screen. In old films you can sometimes see noise in dark scenes but I put this down to old SD content being slightly upscaled.Game mode is decent, giving great colours and sharpness to 4K gaming. The 120hz is wonderful on my series x though not many games currently support it. The tv also has HDMI 2.1 and VRR, I haven’t noticed VRR doing anything noticeable so I’m. It sure it’s even working. Game mode also has a game menu with few settings that you may wish to enable. The speakers are actually rather good, usually the inbuilt speakers for TVs are traditionally bad but these aren’t. You’d still benefit from a proper set of speakers or even a sound bar but it for once isn’t a requirement.Android tv nothing to shout about, I’ve never really liked it even on my old LED tv and this is no different, it is however responsive most of the time. I actually never use it and use my fire stick instead for everything. It is a shame that the remote is the same as the cheaper less premium Philips, paying this much you’d expect it to have backlighting like the 807 does.Overall I’m happy with the purchase once I got the settings down and the ambilight just blows my mind when watching shows in the dark. If this is your first OLED you won’t be disappointed, watching 4K footage at 120hz is just, wow!

Very 'immersive' TV experience with Ambilight
6 September 2023

Spent some time choosing the right OLED TV considering this is my first and due to the price point.Always preferred LG TVs and my 4K 3D is still looking great for a 50".However, I choose Phillips for the Ambilight and that the OLED screen panels are still an LG product I believe. My daughter also has a small Ambilight Phillips TV which lights up her whole bedroom and looks amazing.I would have preferred a 4 sided Ambilight model but was slightly above my budget for the 65" version.I intend to build a media wall and the lighting with look incredible once this OLED is the centre focus. I'll might also add additional Phillips Hue lights.Only had the TV 2 hours and not used at night as yet but with UHD streaming content, so far, the picture quality is VERY GOOD!
