Cheap, plastic, light weight and weak.

Nothing against Shaver Shop, but as a long time fan of Philips products, this one was a real let down. I have thick curly hair and this clipper can not handle it. Keeps jamming. I'm sending back for a refund. I would liken this to a weak beard trimmer.... certainly shouldn't be in the "clipper" category.

No need to visit the barbers anymore. Wish I'd started cutting my hair years ago, would have saved a fortune. I like my hair low (length is set to 1mm), so cutting is very straightforward. Takes about 30mins but that's because I'm a perfectionist. Like my Philips sonicare toothbrush I'm impressed with the build quality of the machine. The motorised combs are a good idea so kudos to whoever invented this feature. I just wish they were made with a thicker more robust plastic. Can imagine the legs snapping with little effort. My biggest gripe is the noise. This is a very noisy machine giving off a very mechanical & heavily obnoxious buzz, not the traditional soothing hum you get from old school corded clippers. I bought this clipper as a replacement for my previous Philips clipper as the combe attachment for it had broken.Since receiving the new clippers I have used them on 2 occasions and I have been generally happy with it. It will take me some time to get used to holding it as it is bigger than my previous one.I especially like the motorised cutting height selection function as it makes it very easy to choose the cutting grade you want and it doesn't change whilst using the clippers. Also, I like how long the battery charge has lasted as since the initial charge I have used it for a total of about 50 minutes and I have not had to charge it yet and they were on standby for over a week between the two times I used the clippers. So overall I am very happy with this ... MoreI bought this clipper as a replacement for my previous Philips clipper as the combe attachment for it had broken.Since receiving the new clippers I have used them on 2 occasions and I have been generally happy with it. Good quality clippers for the price
4 August 2018

Bought these to start buzzing my own hair with rather than going to the barber all the time. These seemed well reviewed, and I've used Philips clippers in the past and have been mostly happy with them which is why I chose these. They come in a nice case, though the slots inside the case for all the parts are a bit of a disaster. But that's just an annoyance and does not really affect their use in any way. The clippers themselves charge fully in about an hour or so which is excellent compared to the multiple hours that my others need. The other great thing is the charge indicator light which goes off when fully charged. No more guessing. They are powerful and cut fairly evenly. My one complaint is that the head is way too big to reach and properly cut the hair ... MoreBought these to start buzzing my own hair with rather than going to the barber all the time. My one complaint is that the head is way too big to reach and properly cut the hair behind my ears. I've tried all sorts of things, but it just won't happen. The beard clipper is also quite large and clunky, and I don't recommend this as a stubble length beard trimmer. The clipping head pops off easily and can be cleaned without much hassle. It's made of metal which is nice.I'd buy this again.

Nice while it works

Purchased for tidying a medium-length beard and for diy haircuts. Light use - beard trimming every 1-2 weeks and haircuts a few times a year. Worked well for over a year with no problems. Battery life was excellent, unit was reasonably ergonomic. Plastic combs have lost one tooth despite gentle use, but are otherwise fine. Compared to boyfriend's old shaver, this one gets the job done SO much faster. After about a year of use as above, we are now encountering a serious and very frustrating mechanical issue. The sliding plates jam up unpredictably between 5 and 30 seconds into use, necessitating disassembly of the head. Too much sliding resistance causes the magnetic drive to decouple. Regular cleaning does not help. Regular oiling does not help. Hand-brushing out ... MorePurchased for tidying a medium-length beard and for diy haircuts. Boyfriend believes the magnetic drive is too weak for the task of driving the plates.I write to you sitting on the bathtub while awaiting boyfriend's completion of disassembly/clean-out/plate jumpstart #5 for the day. We are about 30% done with a hair trim. It's been 40 minutes. I'm infuriated. Boyfriend is clearly never getting the rest of his haircut. This shaver impressed me until it broke my heart.

Not for people with short hair
4 October 2020

The combs of this hair cutter are too large extending forward and to the rear of the cutter so that unless your head is completely round any concave parts of your head are left with the hair longer. Pressing on harder the combs bend creating patches of shorter hair. This leaves the cut uneven and patchy on short hair. On the positive side these cutters are light, charge quickly and cut without snagging so if you have longer hair the uneven cut will not be noticed.I was really looking forward to using these as my previous cutters at 18 years old were starting to snag but I've had to go back to them whilst I return these.

Perfect except for the case, why is there no permanent holder?
9 November 2016

The clipper itself and its features are amazing. The carrying case on the other side only come with a cardboard holder for the shipping but what happens once everything has been unwrapped? When storing or transporting the clipper, everything in the case will bounce from side to side. It looks like a nice looking generic case that simply was not meant for this clipper. Why is there no braces or plastic support?Maybe a foam or some kind of mold to support the clipper and prevent it from moving aroung?Nothing but a temporary carboard holder. It wouldn't be for this mistake, it would deserve a 5 stars overal. These days I think that Philips makes the best hair cutters. I also own their multigroom which works great and comes with a pouch made from synthetic tissue. ... MoreThe clipper itself and its features are amazing. The carrying case on the other side only come with a cardboard holder for the shipping but what happens once everything has been unwrapped? Solid
17 August 2022

Have used it twice. Trims very well. Feels a little light in the hand, but that's probably a good thing, - I guess heft is not always an indicator of tool quality! The auto detection of which comb, or no comb, and the corresponding length display is cool. For the price, though, I would also have liked a more comprehensive battery life /charge indicator, rather than just a low battery LED. The case is nice as well, but don't expect to get everything in it easily and quickly, - it fits, but takes planning. I only use one comb, and travelling without the bits I don't use will be a breeze. Solid purchase, recommended.

Very good upgrade from my old hair clipper
21 February 2021

I have had numerous Philips hair clippers in the past and they all have served me well. Regarding this particular model, it is something different to the standard hair clippers, you definitely need to get used to it. It gave me perfect close shave in matter of minutes. I haven't tried it with the combs yet but it shouldn't be different to the other models apart of it being motorized. The only downside that I have found is lack of permanent "lock" button as when device is switched off the length can be changed accidentally.

Great value for money. So easy to use. Professional quality cutting. After previously buying a cheaper brand, I have decided that you get what you pay for. The Philips hair cutters are a step above the others and make haircutting such an easy thing to do
