Like most of these "smart" systems the Phillips trades off some major advantages with some equally major disadvantages. So the bad things first. The Lightstrip itself is a strip/tape made up of equally spaced arrays of three LED's. Cool White, Warm White and a combined RGB LED the spacing of these arrays on the Lightstrip means that even if placed in a channel with a difuser you do get pronounced hotspots, so if you are looking for a uniform line of colour as an architectural feature, then this isn't the product for you. As is the case with most LED strips the Phillips Hue light strip can be cut at prescribed points to reduce the length of the strip. However these cut points are approximately 33cm's apart (about a foot), so getting an exact fit between cabinets for ... MoreLike most of these "smart" systems the Phillips trades off some major advantages with some equally major disadvantages. As is the case with most LED strips the Phillips Hue light strip can be cut at prescribed points to reduce the length of the strip. However these cut points are approximately 33cm's apart (about a foot), so getting an exact fit between cabinets for under cabinet lighting can be a challenge. Also the "Start End" components are a little bulky and not the easiest to hide/conceal from sight (the plug into the driver module differs from the plugs used to extend the rest of the system). Also the strip itself is encased in a clear silicon type material sleeve, this does have benefits, but if you are looking to fit the lightship into a channel set into plaster work or such like you are going to need a much wider size than the usual "exposed led" type tapes use. So the Pro's. Firstly by comparison to pretty much all of the cheaper versions available, build quality is what you would express from a world leader in lighting equipment. The silicon type material that encases the strip means that the Lightstrip can be pretty much attached by it's self adhesive tape to pretty much any suitable clean surface and is ready to go without any worries about damage to LED's or exposed surface mount components. Colour rendition Is as expected pretty good, although the use of combined RGB LED's means that Red's are not as vibrant as one would like or Blue's as saturated as you would expect had individual Red, Blue and Green LED's being used. However and very importantly there is no perceivable variance in colour quality or brightness along the entire length of the tape (or attached extensions), something all to noticeable in cheaper versions of the product. There is also a logical means of extending the Lighstrip and third party suppliers who sell connectors to achieve various install challenges. Where the Phillips Hue system comes into it's own however is through it's control App and if you really want to get the most out of the investment then pairing with the Phillips Hue Bridge and either Phillips own smart switches or "Friends of Hue" smart switches is a must. So. If you can cope with the size issues and the "Spotty" nature of the light source. The Phillips Hue Lightstrip is a quality product worth the investment.

Pros: When the light works it is great. Nice and bright, good colour range. The problem is the support from Philips, they simply do not honour the warranty. I bought this as a replacement for a faulty unit whilst I tried to get the original unit repaired, replaced or refunded as it is less than a year old I have proof of purchase and the item even has a manufactured date on it. Philips support simply do not respond to queries. I will be contacting Trading Standards. Very disappointing. Cons: Philips need to provide support and honour their warranty. Shocking for a large company. The low score reflects the fact that the device simply doesn't work anymore and the warranty is worthless.

The Phillips hue lightstrip are a great addition to any smart home setup. They are bright, colourful, easy to install and compatible with HomeKit. Unfortunately, Phillips have recently upgraded their lightstrips to a new “Bluetooth compatible” version, which, while this is great on its own, the new design is not compatible with the original lightstrip extensions as they have adjusted the internal connection size. Unfortunately, even though two lightstrips and two extensions were bought in the same transaction from Simply LEDs, both the older and newer versions were sent meaning that they were incompatible upon arrival - very disappointing. Fortunately, I was able to move some existing lightstrips around in my setup to allow the extensions to be put to use - but be ... MoreThe Phillips hue lightstrip are a great addition to any smart home setup. When my son said he wanted LED lights for his bedroom, I asked my electrician as for a recommendation, as I didn't want a fire hazard and these didn't disappoint. He has a two metre strip under his window seal and they give the room a really nice feel. You can adjust the colour and/or brightness through the Philips app or via Alexa (which he does). I would consider these for any room in the house. They look very nice under shelving.
If you’re just getting 1 light strip it should work alright. Once you try to connect multiple that’s where lots of issues arise. I bought another in hopes of connecting and expanding my light strip however the second one (fresh out of the box) didn’t work. There are numerous issues with connection to my lights and sometimes I have to wait a whole day before being able to connect to them again. The sticky backside also hardly works so I’ve had to utilize pins, tacs and tape. I would strongly recommend never buying these.
I havent been entirely enamored with LEDs given the unfortunate range of warm whites they emit. The HUE strip, in my case hidden atop an eight foot half wall, has quite a range of color, including some good whites, that bounce off the ceiling above. With bridge it performs its duties seamlessly and will fade on or off in 10 to 60 minutes to start and end the day. This is part of a larger homekit system I have cobbled together mostly from ebay. The prices are acceptable this way and rewards greater for performing additional research. Ill add more in time. In 11 months time, part of the light strip is barely lit and not the same colors.
I like the strip light. Very bright when on full. Fell down almost immediately from (cleaned) melamine type surface (under wall cupboards in kitchen). Recommend with reservations. Now need to buy a good double sided tape or glue. A month later: I have bought double sided tape, and the strip light has remained stuck to the cupboard since.
Really great and easy to set up. The adhesive isn’t very strong - had apply some additional double sided tape to about half the 2m length to get the strip to stay in place as it wanted to curl up. App is easy to use but only retains scheduled on/off if the app can continue to run in the background. The strip lights work with Echo Dot/Alexa, and this will save you buying a Bridge for $80 if you were looking to do more sophisticated automation like voice activation or bringing lights up incrementally every evening. Having said this, I love the strip light and it looks beautiful lighting up my bookshelf.
It works without an issue, both using the Hue Bridge and/or the Bluetooth remote. Selection of colours allows for multitude of scenarios. Dimming works flawlessly. I wish I had known all of this before changing the expensive dimmers in the apartment to LED capable ones, as these still show major flaws ...
Works amazingly well, but it's difficult to learn in advance what you need to know. 1. You don't need anything else. The supplied low-energy BT receiver works very well from your cellphone, or your SO's, or both. 2. The Hue Bridge make it slightly cooler, but IMO is only worth it if you want to control multiple such devices. 3. What should be the easiest process, peeling and applying the double-stick tape, is incredibly tedious and frustrating, as the tape cover is a) hard to separate and b) breaks every ~15cm.
