The downlight works very well. This will not fit in the old work junction boxes. You need a larger box for this to fit in. The installation is super easy. Simply connect the black to black and white to white, then plug the light in. You can connect this to an existing Hue bridge or purchase one if you are doing a new installation. Once connected, you can use the App or smart devices such as Alexa to control your lighting.

My whole house is already “smart” technology, why not add a smart recessed colorful changing light? It has cool or warm shades and I control it with my iPhone (it is also android compatible. I can also use it with Alexa. There are additional features i want like syncing lights with movies and control away from home but it’s an add on seperate purchase.

We put these all throughout our ceilings. And it really beats those can lights. I highly recommend that you go ahead throughout your house and invest in new ceiling lights. Instead of a yellow light these produce that bright light white. Also insert some dimmers to create a better ambience.

Everything great except a real pain to install. They have an adjustable 3 prong spring (5” or 6”) that the tension is too tight. If your existing ceiling cans are not tight in the ceiling, installing these pushes up the can into the ceiling rather than the light going into the can. Either send someone up in the ceiling (a dusty hot job) to hold down the can, or spend a LOT of time twisting and slowly walking the light into the can, and then it’s not really tight to ceiling.

Great for home automation and using dimmer switches when not available in normal wiring. I had a light with only one switch at the top of the stairs but not the bottom so I installed these and put Hue dimmers on each end of the stairwell. MUCH safer. No idea why there wasn’t a switch at both ends.

I love these lights. Instructions for installation are not good. I determined from others online that I had to remove the internal bracket that held the ceramic socket. Then unclipped the ceramic socket from the mount. With the mount removed and the socket free, I was able to plug the new light into the socket and push the fixture into the recessed can for a flush mount. With the mount in place I could not get the light to sit flush and secure and the mount was as high as it could go. Removing it as described above did the trick and made this job easy. Lights are beautiful and the range of warm to cool is perfect. I use the hue hub with both Alexa and Google Home. Both work well, but google likes to respond to everything. I may get a smart switch later or get the new gadget they are coming out with soon to turn existing switch into smart switch. Otherwise, 5 stars on this all the way.

The light looks nice but the programmable aspects of it...

The light looks nice but the programmable aspects of it don't work as advertised. Although the light can be controlled with a remote-like function from my phone (so I know the bluetooth connection is working), I have not been able to get the automated functions -- eg the timed on/off function -- to work. Philips doesn't seem to provide customer service and the online research I've done indicates that others have had the same problem with the timer function.
