We have been using our Philips 5400 for about five weeks and we are happy with our purchase. The coffee that it makes is excellent and for the most part it is easy to use. Everyone has a different take when it comes to the amount of coffee and milk in those recipes and the machine allows a certain level of customisation through the LED display. You can select the strength of the coffee and the amount of milk and coffee. These are pre-set, but it allows you to adjust the proportions and will remember your choices for the next time. The only downside is that you can’t increase or decrease the amount of milk or coffee in 10ml increments, each coffee recipe will have different levels of increment to help maintain the proportion of milk and coffee.Overall, I am extremely pleased with the purchase, and I wouldn’t think twice about recommending this bean-to-cup machine to any coffee enthusiast as the quality of the coffee recipes is on a par with those produced by much more expensive models.

I love the way this machine works, it holds a lot of water which is easy to fill. The bean hopper seals in the freshness of the beans. The latte go milk container is awesome, easy to clean and makes hot milk unlike my last machine which produced luke-warm milk if that. Easy to clean out water residue and coffee grounds. Love the iconic display. Two things I wish were different, it purges a little water when you turn on the machine and after the cup is made and the machine sits for awhile. This makes me wish it stayed on longer between cups (that may be an adjustment I can make, haven't looked into it). It's also loud when brewing which is fine but when I have guests in the nearby bedroom, it could wake them up. I love espresso and cappuccino’s but knew I’m to lazy to grind the bean then compress them/ move them to a drip and froth the milk. This machine was the answer. I simply add the beans and water and place the milk in the container and I’m good all day. Just push the type of coffee I’m in the mood for and it does the rest. Take a few to dial in the exact mixture you want for your taste but that’s actually enjoyable. Once you have you amounts in it remembers for all the rest of you coffees. I highly recommend this machine. The only draw back is we drink so much coffee( couple of Americanos in the morning and a couple of cappuccinos in the afternoon)that we have to add water constantly. Maintenance is the worst! I’ve had this machine for over a year now and while I’m very pleased with the drinks, the extreme maintenance and cleaning overshadows any enjoyment. I faithfully clean it on the weekend and it consistently is growing mold, is wet with coffee and grounds all inside. I have to put towels underneath it in order to catch the mess that ends up on the counter. I absolutely would have not purchased this machine had I realized the time consuming cleanup that is an absolute must to make the machine usable. I did not receive this machine as part of a promotion. I’m very disappointed in myself that I didn’t return within the 30 days. Worked for less then a year. When replacing the water filter the coffee maker had error 5. Air stuck in the system. Impossible to get the air out. The pump failed. Sent out for warranty repair. I had packaged the coffee maker in its original packaging before sending it out to the repair center. The repair center repaired it pretty quickly. I has happy about that. But they returned the coffee maker in a flimsy styrofoam cup box with broken pieces of styrofoam inside the box. The coffee maker was not even covered so there was styrofoam everywhere in the machine. The coffee maker seems to be working like it should again but for how long.
