An excellent product for its purpose

This product arrived very promptly. Its instructions are comprehensive, easy to follow and understand, and very descriptive in helping the reader understand exactly how to use it along with many recommendations and safety advice. The heat from the product's light is very gentle and barely noticeable, with a selection of heat settings for your preference. The pulse from the light is very bright even when pressed hard against the skin, which is something worth noting. It will take time for results to show, but from an operational point of view this product provides a very friendly user experience. It is intuitive and easy to operate and simple and clear instructions.

Good but a struggle to use

I have a lumea that I purchased in 2011. So easy to use but the battery life became short and I wanted a replacement to keep on top of all those years of hard work! I purchased this one and used it on my legs and under arms for the first time today. I’ve found that it doesn’t always make contact with skin first time so I’m readjusting it and it can take a few attempts. Even when I use the small attachment on my underarms, it’s a struggle. Such a shame because I have no doubt that this device is probably more advanced than my old device. It’s just time consuming and I am in a position to compare because this is my second lumea. 🤞let’s hope it was worth the struggle !

It's also difficult to know where you finished the last bit, Phllips advise against drawing a grid on your leg!For the first couple of weeks there was no change, as expected from the guidance, but by the third session I noticed to my surprise that I hadn't needed to apply tweezers to those annoying chin hairs, and that the incipient moustache was more or less invisible. Underarms took another session before I noticed the difference, possibly because I hadn't covered the area very efficiently. I decided I didn't have time to do my legs, but I'm going to revisit that plan now because this is so effective. I swim regularly and while I believe body hair is a woman's own business, I do prefer not to have stubble under my arms.I should now only need to use it every six weeks or so to keep things under control, this is good because I have a queue of friends who would like to borrow it after me! I seriously wish I had discovered this years ago, it would have saved hours of shaving/waxing/tweezing, and don't even mention those horrible-smelling creams. It's a big purchase but fantastic value, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get rid of facial or body hair safely and (almost) permanently.

Immediate results!
20 April 2023

So glad I bought it. I saw immediate results. It does take longer to treat than stated when actually using it on different parts of your body, but it’s worth it in the longer term. I have a low pain threshold so in some parts it did hurt me - I just lowered the setting to manage it. Initially it only heated up once and I had to turn it off, but I was able to reuse it after a minute. After using the device around 8 times, the cooling recovery time is longer, so you do have to wait for around 4/5 mins to allow it to cool down. It happens about 2/3 times in a large area (e.g half a leg). But overall, I would recommend this product, it’s great and I should have bought it sooner.

Not too sure if the previous reviews are real. But here is a 100% genuine one.Firstly, the Philips Lumea App is not available in Singapore. You won't be able to download from playstore nor from the url provided. The few Philips staff that I engaged with had assist to "escalated" the issue of the "App not available in your country/region" and most said the technical team will get back within 24-48 hours. After 6 days.. they got back and said that they will release the App in April. I bought the product in early march and I was told to wait for the App release. If the App is not ready, why did Philips sell the product.Secondly, I am considered a pretty fair Asian. With their key statement "Suitable for a wide variety of hair and skin types". It is NOT TRUE. I have tried it both on myself and my husband. With both of us pretty fair, our pits area doesn't not work. Its forever in "orange"- which means "it is too dark for this product it will automatically stop emitting pulses." In this case, I couldn't even use the product at all. In fact it is mostly orange on parts of my legs at well which are considered fair and definitely in the range of Philips "suitable" skin type. Not really recommended for purchase unless you are like snow white..Pretty disappointed with this product.. its not cheap either..

Working very well so far but slower than other models

I have previously purchased two Smoothskin IPL machines. These have a very short time between flashes and the most recent of them has almost zero wait time, you hold down the button and it continually flashes so it is really quick to use. However, both models have had issues (first one flashes ran out / second the button stuck down and could no longer use it).In comparison I feel I have had better results with this machine. The hair on my body had already become much finer and sparser due to the previous IPL machines but I feel that this machine really stopped the hair growing immediately and my legs have been super smooth since I started using it.The main downside is that there is what feels like a long time between flashes and so the whole process does take a ... MoreI have previously purchased two Smoothskin IPL machines. My experience as someone who had a lot of facial / body hair that on my body was thick and grew really quick, always had ingrown hairs etc., is that the hair has been radically reduced and is so much finer. I never get ingrown hairs now and my skin feels very smooth after shaving. I do still need to shave but it is really quick now and the space between shaves is much longer. You do tend to miss some areas with the machine so the hair grows back in funny patches but as it has become so fine now it doesn't really bother me.I am personally so so glad I made the leap of buying an IPL machine years ago as it has made my life easier. Shaving used to be an awful ordeal and my legs were always spiky and sore, whereas now they are not at all!

I've been using Lumea IPL every two weeks for just over two months now on various areas such as legs, arms, underarms, bikini line and upper lip. Thus, I've treated each area around 4 or 5 times so far.I noticed a reduction in the number of hairs growing back even after first treatment, especially on the leg and underarm area. After two months, there are hardly any hairs growing back on my underarms and my legs are around 60% hair free! The hair growth on my upper lip and bikini line is also significantly reduced with noticeable hair-free patches. As explained in the detailed instructions booklet, the device is most effective on areas where the skin is fair and the hair dark, as it targets melanin (the pigment that gives colour to hair and skin). It actually won't fire a flash of light if it detects darker skin tone to avoid burns, which is very clever and reassuring. I found that the areas where I had the most hair reduction, are in fact the areas where the hair is the darkest. My arm hair is quite light and that's where I've had the least hair reduction. However, the hairs that have grown back on my arms are much softer and thinner than before Lumea treatments.I shaved each area before treatment instead of epilating or waxing as I read that the hair needs to remain in the root below the skin surface, in order for it to be effectively zapped. I love the pen trimmer that's included with the device, which I found useful to use on upper lip and facial hair before and in-between treatments. The device itself is comfortable to hold and very intuitive to use. Although it has a cord attached, it doesn't get in the way and it's a good length so you don't have to sit close to the mains. I personally didn't feel any pain whilst using the device, however, on high settings you do feel slight warmth and a sensation like a rubber band snapping, which isn't overly uncomfortable. It comes with three different attachments for body, face and bikini/underarms which are easy to interchange.I would have preferred a more robust storage box/container to a cloth zip bag, since the attachments are quite fragile (the microchip sticks out of each attachment) and could snap easily if squashed which would render them unusable.Overall, I think that it's a fantastic device with which you can achieve long-lasting near-permanent hair removal at a fraction of the cost of salon treatments. It's not for those who expect immediate results, as it takes a number of treatments to notice results depending on your skin/hair type. It takes patience but you won't be disappointed!

I had been researching longer term alternatives to shaving and the Philips Lumea Advanced IPL seemed the perfect introduction to IPL technology, as well as offering long term hair free skin with repeated use.As a newbie to this type of treatment, I carefully read the detailed instructions and prepared my skin by shaving before use as directed. The device makes it easy to find the correct light intensity setting for you. The pulses are warming and I found the process relaxing.I really like the style of the Philips Lumea Advanced IPL, and its ergonomic design makes it easy to handle and use. The operating system, using just one settings button and the flash button, is very intuitive, and I always know that I have the device in the correct position as the 'ready to flash' strip on the back of the device will light up continuously when it detects the correct skin contact, and a gentle press of the flash button releases a pulse of light. Integrated safety features ensure the flash can not be activated unless correctly positioned, and will automatically disable if it detects too dark a skin tone so as to avoid skin reactions. This is a hair removal treatment that requires a little patience but within the first couple of weeks after my initial treatment, I noticed areas where hair was no longer growing and after using for just over 6 weeks (3 treatments), the hair free areas are increasing and in those areas where there is still some hair it is finer than usual, and is as a result of the nature of the growth stages of hair so, with continued use every 4 weeks or so I look forward achieving and maintaining long term hair free skin.

So I’ve never actually heard of an IPL machine until I started researching ways to reduce hair growth, smooth skin for longer etc and after reading up online, the Lumea was the product that was well know and the most talked about and liked product. I received the Lumea Advanced and it looked so classy and extremely well made, I read through the instructions and did my test site 24 hours before. First session - the instructions are clear and for the device and what it does, it’s very easy to use, I found when I am doing the treatment I have to reduce the intensity when I get to my knee caps and my ankles, it’s a very bizarre sensation at times but does not hurt at all, I did struggle up my shin bone as I have quite thin legs but I just turned the Lumea length ways ... MoreSo I’ve never actually heard of an IPL machine until I started researching ways to reduce hair growth, smooth skin for longer etc and after reading up online, the Lumea was the product that was well know and the most talked about and liked product. Afte the first session i already noticed a drastic change in hair growth, I only have to shave my underarm twice in the first 2 weeks and my legs once’s, I wasn’t expecting miricales but I was very surprised with the outcome after one treatment. It becomes difficult at times to get in the right position and get all areas but over time you learn and get in a flow/routine.Second Session - I felt the second session was a lot easier than the first session, as I knew what to expect and I also had mastered the art of using the Lumea and the angles to hold it at to ensure all areas were covered, again with the intensity I reduced by 1 around the ankle and the kneecap area. This time round I haven’t seen any drastic change, so shaved armpits 3 times and legs once. I’m due to do my 3rd treatment in 2 days and I’m excited to see the final result. Me personally will never go back to a razor again, these are pricey to begin with but are worth every single penny, they are stylish, convenient, save a fortune on razors, blades, waxing, shave gel etc. I would highly reccomend to anyone who second guessing this product as literally it’s amazing, no more awkward shower positions, no more shaving every other day, I just can’t believe this product exsisted and I had never heard of it. It’s not talked about enough and Promoted enough. But Ladies is a real game changer, add to your birthday/Christmas/mother’s day wish list because I can guarentee you will not be under any circumstance disappointed. Another fantastic product from Phillips
