I first bought turntables in the late 90's but stopped using them around 2005. Since then, technology has passed me by and the world of CD DJ'ing completely came and went without me touching it. Now, after getting the itch, I researched and invested in my first DJ controller. I'm so impressed by, firstly, what can be done nowadays digitally and secondly, how budget friendly the FLX4 is. From my previous experience I knew Pioneer was a respected brand and I'm really happy with it. Having a great time getting up to speed with the new tech and latest music. Highly recommended.

I think this is a fantastic beginner controller and a decent value. The pads and jogs feel great to me (touch and responsiveness) and it has all the features I need (EQ, effects, loops, hotcues) in a fairly intuitive layout. I like the style of this controller but part of the reason i'm taking a star of is that the overall build quality and fitment doesn't compare to my prevous controller from Native Instruments. Everything is functional on this controller but the knobs don't have as nice a feel and some areas feel like they weren't put toegether with the same care as my NI controller. On the software side I like Rekordbox for for the library management but visually I find it unnapealing but it's functional at least. Pioneer is pushing it too far with subscriptions ... MoreI think this is a fantastic beginner controller and a decent value. I like that I can use it with my ipad or phone as well, instead of a laptop. Makes for a super compact setup for travelling!

What a fantastic piece of kit for the cash. It looks the business, SOUNDS the dog's danglies, and gets you up and running in next to no time. I've got a musical background, but mainly from a writing/playing keyboards/production angle. I've never been a DJ...just someone who knows a good tune, has a 'head library' of millions of tracks and always fancied teaching the kids a thing or two about 'Old Skool' classics and how to mix them. This is the perfect controller to allow me to do that.I'm no purist when it comes to DJ'ing. I don't care if someone can spin 4 Technics vinyl decks at once. If I'm not headlining in Ibiza this summer then that'll be my fault, not Pioneer's. ;-)Seriously though, just buy one. For sub 300 you really can NOT go wrong.

Dj since the mid 80's (I'm 52). Havent dj'd in 15 years so I decided to catch the digital DJ wave. This little device is insane. I'm using serato dj pro with it. The reviews I read on reddit/internet etc all said NOT to get the flx4 if you use serato because it doesnt work as well. I think that is only in regards to the 'smart fader effect'. I dont use that effect, so no issue there, but I do use the smart cfx and it works. maybe it does more in rekordbox, but it's a nice filter + echo fade out when using Serato. as far as other features.... all work great. I swapped the sampler mode with stems and it's amazing. also, the bottom 4 pads on Beat Loop mode are basically just "beat jump" again which there is already a mode for beat jump, so It was redundant and I was ... MoreDj since the mid 80's (I'm 52). I swapped the sampler mode with stems and it's amazing. also, the bottom 4 pads on Beat Loop mode are basically just "beat jump" again which there is already a mode for beat jump, so It was redundant and I was able to use midi in serato and change those to "Quantize", "FX dropdown", "Sync OFF". If using serato, the FX drop down is good to add to a pad because when you use the "FX Select" button on the flx 4, it will cycle through the FXs in serato, but if you dont hit the drop down , you cant see which fx its selecting. (another tip would be to set serato to display only your favorite fx otherwise there is too many to scroll through). All in all, I never even used jog wheels, never used cd players, just vinyl on 1200's. and this little controller is amazing. I learned what I have been misssing. lol. loops, filters, FX's, key shifts, Cue points.. its amazing. I also never knew that the jog wheels have two functions,,. 1 you can move the sides to slow up and speed up the beat to keep it on beat... and the top obviously can stop the song play (like a record). I am nice when scratching/cuttin on vinyl, but I tried on here and its just so different I dont even try anymore. lol. ive seen others kill it on videos but not working out for me.. lol. so i dont even attempt anything but baby scratches. lol. The fader is decent in my opinion... in serato, i was able to set the curve for crossfader and for channel faders. The EQs are decent too. the output is only RCA but i hooked it up to my old mackie 1202 board and I use mackie SRM450 speakers and the sound was great. I was suprised since it was just rca's and an "entry level" controller. I didnt find an instruction manual in the box so i just explored and found out how to use this thing. and still finding out new features.. last week i found out if i Hold the SHIFT button in and press "sync" then it changes the range for the tempo slider from +- 8 to +-16, and higher. very useful since serato has the pitch n time plugin. its just amazing to dj with this beast. 1000 percent recommend this for anyone. I can't believe this is "entry level". LOL. hopefully this review helps someone because i did so much research on which entry controller to get, and there wasnt much help out there. lots of videos say get flx4 UNLESS you're using serato.. but im using serato and you should still get the flx 4! LOL its amazing.
I have a DDJ400 and DDJ800 and just got this for my son for his Birthday. Point being I dabble in DJing and am familiar with the brand. I'm still no pro, but this feels like a good successor in the entry level space. Typical solid Pioneer build quality, fun to use, and working with both Serato and Rekordbox is excellent. My son is just getting started but so far he loves it. I don't normally buy from Walmart but everywhere else was sold out... that alone should say something if you're on the fence.
Really satisfied with my purchase. Listening to my favourite music and tracks entered a new dimension. Was skeptical at first about the FLX4 as it's more for beginners, however it is Pioneer's very latest release and very feature-rich. Works flawlessly with Serato / rekordbox, on all my devices, from PC, laptop, iPad to iPhone with the nifty USB C connection.Highly recommended!
Great robust design, yet compact, portable, and clear layout.Internal features eg. fx has a good range. The sound quality is pristine, and volume faders work to professional standards. The glassy feel to the pads feel amazing, as they don't get sticky. The feel of jogwheel and play buttons are nice to the touch.Would like to see XLR output added in the future to work with the studio monitors ,as I liked using the controller as a midi device in Garageband.
Things you need to know:If you want to use this controller with your laptop, make sure the OS is compatible. If you want to use this with your phone and an external speaker you need these:Belkin 25w USB C charger and USB C leadPhono to (whatever your speaker input is) leadFirmware of device will ned to be updated and I found that you had to unplug and plug back in again before firmware update worked. However once it was finally set up it worked brilliantly and is pretty intuitive to use.
Here I am... after a very long career playing in and owning one of the top rated wedding bands in the United States, I am starting a DJ company. I know little to nothing about this! However, I was given my first gig and last week I bought this controller as an entry level unit. It arrived Friday and that left me about 12 hours to figure it out and become a DJ. Needless to say, that was a tall order. You get just about nothing in the box telling you how to use this. However, I am relatively smart and I did some googling. I got it set up, practiced with it, Serato (I bought the pro version) and Tidal (I streamed my music that night as I did not have a choice yet. It all worked perfect. I got a really nice customer review. So here is the thing... But I liked it and found it easy to use and really easy to transport and set up. Looks cool too. I know this review is not real helpful. Sorry.
I like that the bus power port has been updated to USB 2.0 Type C, and that bluetooth is also incorporated.I also own a Numark Mixtrack FX Platinum, and it is a bit larger with the weighted jogwheels. It is also nice, but not as flexible on software options, with Serato and VirtualDJ only. This controller can use at least 4-5 other options, and RekordBox has come a long way.FX paddles would have been a nice addition, but they have them on the Rev3 for more of a club/scratcher layout.Buy with confidence that this controller will be one to enjoy casually, or to grow your DJ skills on.
