This is the third one I've bought for different locations. It works well and unlike the similar Kensington model I've had no trouble with it. One USB 3 cable into the laptop or (Windows) tablet and you've got everything connected: keyboard, mouse, MULTIPLE displays, external drives, 100MB e/net, usb sticks etc. etc. It just works! Although the Displaylink technology that these devices all rely on have had a couple of hiccups thanks to Microsoft. 1. when Windows 10 came along then 2. when they completely changed the underlying layer for USB display connectivity. Hopefully Microsoft won't move the goalposts again! They got it working within a reasonable time. The UD-3900 was ordered to provide an easy connection for a new larger monitor to my laptop computer. My goal was to use the laptop to display property records and to extract data into an Excel worksheet on the larger monitor. And I found this to be easy to use but I thought I might be able to use it as a NAS box of some sort and just plug it into my router for NAS external hard drives but that did not work.Other than that, the connected devices (keyboard, hard drive in my case) work like a charm, but it is important to remember that if the laptop hibernates, so do the attached devices. But if you are frustrated by the lack of ports on your laptop (one of mine does not even have an Ethernet port), then this is a good solution.
