The 250GB PNY CS900 internal SSD benefits beginners who haven't already upgraded their SATA drives. Although it's not the highest capacity, it's enough to retain a decent amount of sizable content that consumers may want or need elsewhere. It's immediately noticeable how lightweight it is after it's been removed from its packaging. But only knowing its true capabilities happens after actually installing or transferring content. Some newcomers may not understand or notice the differences with other SATA drives but for those familiar it really shows if they're patient enough. But remain forewarned that it's easily fillable and likely wouldn't be the most appropriate for those wanting more out of their drive. However, to those seeking either an additional or new ... A nothing fancy SSD for a nothing fancy laptop. I've used these low-end PNYs in other devices, all still working fine. The MTBF and TBW ratings are more than adequate, the performance increases over a traditional hard drive are very significant. Reboots windows in under 20 seconds, woot! Also kudos to Macrium reflect free version. With it, a blank dvd for boot media, and a USB 3.0 flash drive to hold the drive image, the swap took about 90 minutes -- most of which was spent "carefully" cracking open the laptop.Boo Lenovo! 13 screws and I still had to pry/pop it open! Why???

It's not a fancy SSD.No 3D NAND, no DRAM Cache, but it does have 64 layers of TLC. However, it lacks more advanced functionalities you'd find on the Crucial or Samsung counterparts on the market. So if you want a very GOOD 2.5" SSD, you're gonna have to go for one of those two.But if you need something cheap to store your steam games, ultra high-def videos, or something just to slap in a cheap laptop, this will do it just fine. The read speeds are pretty consistent, getting over the 500MB/s mark pretty consistently for both short and long transfers. Write speeds are, however, where this drive constantly fell short. But that's expected with a DRAM cache, and it was still faster than most spinning drives at around 150MB/s.This drive is being used in a laptop ... Games that normally would have issues reading on a hard drive such as GTA 5, Gmod, etc seem to load exceptionally quick in this configuration.

While restoring an old pc for my dad, I needed to upgrade the boot drive. I couldn't use an m.2 due to the older motherboard on that computer, so I got this drive instead. Definitely loads into windows faster than the old hard drive it came with- just had to use an adapter to put into a standard 3.5 inch drive slot, plug it in, and install a modern os. Bought for a pretty good price too, yet still a great value even at normal price compared to the bigger names like Samsung. For computers that don't have an m.2 slot I would highly recommend this drive. Just remember to pick up an adapter if you're upgrading a desktop, which are easily found right here at Best Buy. Unless you're making a solitary drive build, 500 gb is plenty!
I recently upgraded my Home Lab server Dell PowerEdge R620 with the PNY 2TB CS900 SATA III 2.5 Internal SSD and I am thoroughly impressed with its performance. I needed a new drive as I use a Crucial P5 for my boot drive which only has 512gbs (still an amazing drive and recommend the p5 on sale) and my 2tb barracuda was also full. The PNY drive has an average of 535 MB/s so its nothing to write home about compared to nvme ssd's.But MAN does it do its job so well. I'm able to copy and download files to it with ease. In GTA 5 I am able to load into single player at half the time it takes my hard drive to. Battlefields 4 and 1 load in at around 40 seconds, compared to the 3 MINUTES my hard drive would give me. Siege I moved from my m.2 to it and I still load into matches faster. Call of Duty warzone got rid of annoying texture pop-in/degradation on the SSD and Forza Horizon 5 is able to run textures at ultra settings. So ... The end result was that the dual-core desktop boot-up time was reduced from a consistent 2-minutes and 32-seconds using the original hard-drive, down to a mere 36-seconds when booted using the newly-cloned solid-state drive (SSD) upon migrating it into the physical position of the original hard-drive. There were other minor operating system response time improvements. The marked performance improvements of the various software applications running on the operating system were brought about by doubling the computer's RAM, which was the second part of the enhancements for the targeted computer. The PNY offering, consisting of the SSD itself plus the interface cable (needed when cloning the original drive's content to the SSD via a USB port on the computer), is an excellent way to deploy the product. The cloning software, which needs to be downloaded, is only part of the software package; it also includes several other drive-related utilities. The interface cable can still be used afterwards when reading/writing to loose laptop hard-drives via one of the computer's USB ports. So all together, the 'kit' makes for a compelling value. For those preferring to click their way through the cloning process emboldened by blind intuition alone, rather than consulting the instructions in the accompanying downloadable user manual, be advised to first view on-line video tutorials that feature implementations via this 'kit'.
I purchased the PNY CS900 250 GB solid state drive as an upgrade for my aging laptop and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The installation process was a breeze and the drive fit seamlessly into my 2.5-inch bay. After booting up my laptop with the new drive, I immediately noticed a significant increase in performance. Programs and files load much faster, and my overall system feels much snappier.
