Performance issues aside- it’s a step in the right direction I’d imagine that come Christmas some form of patch will drop.I’m also kinda bothered by how the NPCs look so incredible and the character customisation is just so boring- the love and attention put into those designs is totally absent from the avatar you’re stuck looking at for the duration of the game. (Weird gripe but hey)

It had everything to be the best Pokémon game ever released, but the very poor performance and the unpolished graphics are a big let down. It’s unbelievable how a big company like Nintendo could release an unfinished product like this. The game is fun and that’s how a Pokémon game should be (the concept), so I hope GameFreak release a new patch soon fixing all the issues!

I can't understand all the hate - this game has everything! It's fun, I love the open world, it's engaging, I love that you can do what you want in any order you want. The new pokemon are cute and fun and exciting, and I like the game play - the raids are fun and bring in elements of games like final fantasy (battling pokemon without choosing the fight move by move). The picnics are ADORABLE and such a fun element of the game, bonding you with your pokemon all the more. Who doesn't wanna ride a giant legendary pokemon either?!It's everything we love about pokemon but with new and engaging ways to play! Honestly my favourite of the newer games that have come out. Are the pokemon cute? Yes! Do they also kick ass? Yes!10/10
The game is unfinished, the graphics are mediocre and there are far too many bugs to document here, even reference markers are still visible in rooms and cutscenes.Despite all that, it is a fun game, with good characters, good story and when it works the gameplay is fun but in its current state it's just a broken mess so close to being good held back by a rushed unfinished development cycle to get it in shops for Christmas, I cannot recommend it to anyone in good conscience.
I’m a 28 year old Pokemon fan, been involved with the franchise since I was little.I’ll start my review off by saying Pokemon fans really do deserve so much better but I enjoyed the game nonetheless. The game is unfortunately marred by poor technical performance and art/environments.Some of the main issues were: pop ins, low animation frame rates, texture clipping, FPS dips and glitched cameras. The large lake to the North-West is an absolute slog to play, the game ran so poorly there everything was in slow motion which leads me to believe the game speed is tied to the frame rate. Animations were slow motion and the sound was 1-2 seconds behind the animations which was another second behind the text. A really jarring experience. As for the game itself.First ... A really jarring experience. As for the game itself.First impressions were positive, whilst I didn’t like any of the starter evolutions I certainly enjoyed their base forms and think they’re great. The animations for them at the beginning are really nice and it was a tough pick but I ended up going Fuecoco who was boxed shortly after. The early game has a really good variety of Pokemon and it’s really easy to get a varied team going. The game has you enrol at Uva academy where you go on a field trip of sorts to ‘findyour treasure’ and you get 3 story lines to complete. I actually really liked these story lines as far as Pokemon goes and thought the characters that intertwine with these plot points to be some of the best we’ve seen in some time.I did find the early game to be the weakest part however. As we are now playing in an open worldWhere you can tackle the gyms in any order you like you do need to be wary of over levelling as the gyms don’t scale so it’s incredibly easy to ruin to early/mid game by exploring too much which I did.Thankfully in the late game I found I was in the sweet spot and had to reset of the Elite 4/ Champion Fight and end boss multiple times so there was a bit of challenge there. The end game was actually really good and by far my favourite part as the multiple story lines paid off and I enjoyed where they took the narrative.Pros:- Characters- Story- Pokemon VarietyCons:- Performance- Art direction- Lack of scaling/ difficulty option
The game has less of a professional and polished feel than the game before it, and it appears to use the same engine. There are many glitches and the world is fairly uninteresting to explore. The camera angles during battles is noticeably worse than Legends Arceus. I can’t recommend this game over Legends Arceus.
This one is difficult to review, in all honesty. On one hand, it's a ton of fun, and being let loose into the open world, looking out for new Pokémon and choosing where to go is an amazing step for the series. On the other hand, the game is the buggiest Switch title I've ever played. Check out Digital Foundry's video on the technical performance and graphical issues- there is a heaping amount of problems with Scarlet/Violet which while aren't enough to ruin the experience for me, are glaringly obvious and questionable, given the Switch is more than capable of delivering high quality games (the Xenoblade series, Breath of the Wild, even Legends Arceus run better than this). A technical disaster. Objects pops in and out of the screen. NPCs move like they're stop motion. Characters glitch and fall through the floor. The game itself is good, when it's not bugging out. But this seriously needed more development time before release.
The state of game at launch is sadly not up to standard. The game can be enjoyable and if it weren't for performance issues and bugs would be very good however they're are noticeable and will distract from the gameplay. With updates to improve how it runs it will be a lot better!
