It is made mostly out of quality plastic and metal with the ear pieces and headband cushion being made out of a soft pleather. The headband piece is metal and makes it feel solid and sturdy as a high end piece of equipment should. The over the ear housing components are made out of plastic. Once concern of mine was the swivel connection between the over the ear housing and the headband. The connection over a week of testing held up quite well and maintained a consistent degree off resistance to keep certain angles in place and can swivel 180 degrees for storage. I also noticed that there are tick marks on the headband for consistent adjustment to keep the headband evenly distributed for consistency, which is a nice touch.I also like how the call controls are located near the waist when standing. The buttons feel nice with a solid feel when pressed as well as lights for visual indication of when you’re on the phone and when mute is on. However, it is missing a visual que of when you are using the Active Noise Canceling (ANC). One feature of the ANC that I didn’t realize I would use was the different levels of the ANC. There is the Mid and the High and can toggle between both and off via a slide button on the side of the call controls.Performance:Connection – The connection is by USB-A, so nothing special there as long as your USB port is in good shape there are no Hardware connection issuesSound – As for using it for VoIP calls, the connection is also sold. I did not experience any issues with distortion or fading. The sound both ends were crystal clear most of the time. If the other end had an issue with here connection or how/where they were talking then that is on the other end and no fault of the BLACKWIRE 8225 headset. When I do get into those situations I turned on the Active Noise Canceling and it makes it a little easier to hear the other end, but most of the time I didn’t feel like I needed to use the ANC at all because the sound was so good. Now if you do have noise around such as kids playing or someone else working near you who is also on a call, then ANC works wonders in conjunction with the mute button. As I before, I primarily basing this review on its performance as a headset for phone and video calls. However, I did listen to some music with is and I have to say that I am not disappointed. I did not go through a full sound test with it but for the occasional track between meetings and phone calls, you won’t feel the need to change over to something else. Now if I were listen to music while I work and did not have speak to others I would change to something else, it is designed for work and hearing voices.I also briefly tested this out playing Destiny on a PS3 and it would work for a casual gamer but for someone more serious, well let’s just say they wouldn’t be looking at the business section for a headset.Comfort – Now this is where I felt that I needed to be most critical. At first the headset seemed stiff compared to what I typically use (Poly - Voyager Focus UC). Keep in mind there is an adjustment period and that period for me was about… 2 hours. They were actually pretty comfortable and am quite pleased with them. I came to the realization after the first week that my ears able to breathe more compared to my other headset, which was nice. Since I was used to having a wireless headset I did find the cord to be a little annoying but that’s mostly when I wanted to go the kitchen and I had to take it off, since I was used to just leaving my Voyager on and going where I wanted. However, again this is a preference and does not reflect on the quality and performance of the BLACKWIRE headset. After taking all things in to consideration, I am very happy with this headset and in the category of wired headsets and would recommend them first above all others..

The headset is very comfortable. The boom adjustments are smooth, but could use a little more maneuverability because you can not bring it closer to your face. This is probably so you dont have it too close and compromise the sound fence. The boom does rotate so you can use it on either side though. The best feature is the sound fence. OMG! It will keep any background noise out of your conversations. The inline switch will remove noise in your ears so you can hear better, but doesnt seem to affect the other persons experience. You can also use this on multiple pieces of equipment. Not only can you use it on your computer, but you can buy an adapter and use it with your cell phone as well. It beats any Bluetooth for call quality. The adjustments of the ears is nice ... MoreThe headset is very comfortable. I am currently wearing it "backwards" (so the earpiece labeled "R" is on my left ear) but it should be shown correctly.2) The cord from the headset to the mic control is shorter than the 5220 which is a bummer3) The mute/unmute button takes about 1/4 to 1/2 second to take effect, unlike the 5220 which is instantaneous. This diminishes the value. For new features, the noise-canceling is pretty good and helpful. People note that my voice sounds clearer with less background noise.

Great for businesses and work calls

Great product for desk teleconference!

I end up sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day and on teleconferences for a good part of my day. The audio quality is great. At first I was a bit hesitant about on the ear and a wired headset. But with the audio control for volume, mute and answer without having to do it on the computer makes it very convenient and quick. The headset it sits comfortably on my head without any issues and it doesn't shift as I am moving my head around either, being light weight also helps too. Windows had no issues detecting the headset after I plugged it in. Within seconds it was ready to use. Also, it comes with a nice little bag to put the headset into once you are done with it. This review is specifically for the version that ends in USB 2.0. If you want to use these headphones with any mobile device, I suggest the version that ends in USB-C.I don't do much calling from my laptop, most of my calling is from my phone still. My phone came with a USB to USB-c adapter that I have used for other USB headphones with mics from Plantronics. These though would not work. The headphone portion worked great, you could listen to music, watch videos, and hear the other person on the other line. However, the mic never worked. I tried a myriad of options including firmware updates, but could not get them to work. Now, for what actually did work. The headphone portion. The on-top-of-the ear style makes it so that your ears don't get too fatigued too fast. These headphones have the best noise cancelling I have ever had from on-the-ear headphones. The different levels allows you to "keep an ear out' if you need to while still blocking out most ambient sounds.

Plantronics/Poly Blackwire 8225-M **USB-C** Corded Headset ANC

Very comfortable fit. I've actually relaxed the top head spring to suit my fit slightly better. Sound quality is very good. You can hear all the nuances of your music. Microphone quality is one of the main reasons I chose this headset. I've never had better vocal quality from a headset mic. There are three settings for noise cancellation - Off, Mid and High. Mid is useful and gets rid of any air conditioning and other background hum. I haven't used the Hi setting much although I imagine it would be pretty effective in cancelling engine noise on a plane flight.

Comfortable and quick to set up. Excellent audio and reliable mic. Issues for me: 1. The boom mic is difficult to bend into a useful position and the first few times it seemed to straighten out a bit, requiring regular re-adjustment. 2. The section of cord between the headset and the controls creates a lot of noise in the right earpiece when it rubs against clothing, which it does with the slightest bit of movement. 3. The case is not quite big enough, so you need to bend the cord where it connects to the headset to fit it in the case. The cord is coated in very soft plastic so I can see it breaking easily.I would still recommend this headset despite those things, because of it's reliability, but treat it with care.

Well-featured headset, great for open offices!

An on-ear headset with noise cancelling didn't initially sound like a winner to me, but it's pretty astonishing how well these work. For not having a physical over-ear seal, the noise cancelling is fairly effective - certainly enough to help you focus on a phone call even in a relatively noisy environment.Furthermore, the biggest issue with noisy environments is usually that the people on the other end of your call can hear all of it - this headphone drastically reduces that issue, as the active noise cancelling isn't just for what you hear, but also filters what others on the call with you hear from your microphone. My wife and I tested this out and were impressed. The on-cable controls are very helpful as well, featuring mute, answer call, volume adjustment, and active noise cancelling controls - without needing to reach for your PC to make those adjustments. I definitely love this, and the buttons are satisfyingly clicky, so you can use 'em without looking at it (but there's still a mic indicator next to the button, in case you aren't sure if you're muted). This headset is also fairly comfortable - it feels nearly weightless, and places extremely minimal pressure on your ears. My wife tends to get pressure headaches with any over-ear headsets, but this worked great for her.If you're between calls, this headset is also fairly acceptable for listening to music, given that music is clearly not its intended purpose.

good headset that sounds great with music too

One of the first things I do with any new headset is listen to a few tracks from my music library. For me, this really reveals a lot about how deep & rich the sound quality is as well as being able to quietly rock some tunes at my desk. The headphones passed that test with flying colors. The boom mic works well (retracts perfectly) and the little control switch on the cord is big enough to grasp, but I wish they would have added some color to the function buttons. It’s nothing a little memorization won’t fix, but having white inlay would have been a nice touch. As long as you know where call and mute are you’re fine. Volume up/down work well too with my iMac’s sound. I also always ask someone if they can hear me ok, you know, do I sound like I’m in a Zoom can. Volume up/down work well too with my iMac’s sound. I also always ask someone if they can hear me ok, you know, do I sound like I’m in a Zoom can. No, according to a client I sounded great. Again, we're getting used to Zoom calls and the mic mute button is good to have on the switch. The noise canceling option works great too (which I really love). While there is a mid & high range setting, I found that high works best – after all, you’re trying to cancel the noise around you, right? This is something that is often lacking on other office headsets.Other things; I was worried that the cord would make noise but that wasn’t the case. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised with overall audio quality. They also sit comfortably on your head thanks to a firm but soft little pad along the top. Some headsets forget this but Poly has been good about including these.Overall, this a good quality headset that you can multitask with and not get tired of wearing - even when the call is over.
