It’s rare I have breakfast. I tend to sleep until noon so it puts a damper on things… One day I was out grocery shopping and decided to wander down the breakfast aisle for fun. My eye caught the display of Pop-Tarts! I haven’t had these little pockets of jam filled wonders in ages! For fun I threw a box of the Wild Berry in my cart and never looked back. The pastry is just as I remembered it. Tasteless but so nostalgic. The coating is a tasteless purple frosting with the famous blue swirl. The filling is a wild berry jam that isn’t overly sweet. I love to eat these plain or toasted. Either way, they are great. I still won’t wake up for breakfast to eat these, but to have them as a snack is just as good!

I feel that this is a well tested recipe, I made this yesterday with my daughter and it came out perfectly! My kids have never had actual pop tarts, but this was an instant hit! I’ll be making this again and also using the crust recipe for other fillings or tarts, because it came out absolutely perfect! We had plenty of dough to press into an entire baking pan and the thickness and texture was perfect. I used homemade brown sugar, so that may make the flavor richer, but store bought will be fine too. Wish I could post a picture in this review. Definitely give it a try!

I ate Pop-Tarts in college like most college students do.Even after 20 years I can remember the taste. I triedPop Tarts twice now in the past year. Meijershould refuse to sell this product and remove this hazardouswaste from the shelves. If Pop-Tarts can't be made under$5 a package now, then the manufacturer should say that. They shouldn't slop on icing and give you mixed gasolinebyproducts in the filling. Terrible. Many products havewashed out my tastebuds temporarily, but this one wassomething else. It burned my taste buds for a day. I'vehad icing and bread give me a metallic taste for a day, butthis one was the only one that literally burned my tongue. What happened to Pop-Tarts? They probably cost $10 now, and for $10your food shouldn't burn your tongue.

I ordered a 12 pack of Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon a couple of months ago but didn't open the box right away as I was working on finishing up the other Pop-Tarts already on hand. Upon opening it today, I was greeted with 4 foil packets containing 8 Pop-Tarts. Missing one foil packet is one thing but 2? I'm not impressed with the qualitiy control or the new math. Am I now expected to open everything from Kellogg upon receipt to double check their arithmetic? Reading some of the other reviews, this doesn't appear to be their only quality control issue. Do better Kellogg.
I have no nostalgic attachment to pop-tarts, but this recipe just looked too fun to pass up. And it was! The crust was a dream to work with. Came out perfectly, and friends agreed - very few leftovers. FWIW, my boyfriend, who has more history with pop-tarts, says that this is closer to the texture of the boxed version when it has been chilled (vs warm from the oven). Next time, I'd like to try a jam or preserve filling (raspberry?).
My guests generally loved the result and agreed that it tasted like a genuine Brown Sugar Pop-Tart. One complained that it was "too sweet," but isn't this the nature of Pop-Tart? Others suggested making a strawberry, raspberry, and/or blueberry version in the future, which I might do.That said, there are a few things that I'd do differently next time:1) Reduce the border to 1/2": This might change the proportions relative to a "real" Pop-Tart but the larger pieces of plain crust were too plain/bland2) Roll out the bottom crust directly on parchment so that I don't have to transfer so large a crust using a rolling pin (both crusts broke a bit while being transferred)3) Consider using parchment or plastic wrap under the top crust and then using that to facilitate ... MoreMy guests generally loved the result and agreed that it tasted like a genuine Brown Sugar Pop-Tart. Purchased these since feeding 4 boys (age 10-20). Occasionally us parents may sneak a pop-tart treat. The quality is very low with these. I believe these pop-tart could possibly be defective ones. I may purchase just a 1pack of similar flavor. To compare quality. (Also maybe check out the generic brand also). Yes get to the point. Stop this tangent. The product received. Literally every single pop-tart has hardly any frosting. Some may be just a blob just in middle, some its off center so one side ends up with a big wide crust then frosting goes from middle-ish to the edge of other side. The frosting always looks like put on all hodge podge/ Wonky. Its never all smooth and uniform. There are bumps, blobs, streaks, holes. The frosting always looks like put on all hodge podge/ Wonky. Its never all smooth and uniform. There are bumps, blobs, streaks, holes. I'm just trying to budget and spend wisely to feed my children. Of course they don't necessarily need these. But they are a nice treat. My kids very rarely eat just a pop-tart for breakfast. They like eggs more for breakfast. Usually the Pop-tart are eaten as a snack/ treat. Also I ration out these kind food. Only put out a couple boxes. Depending on what snack/ treats.Wait few days up to week. Check what still stocked. Then restock their snack cupboard from my forbidden stash. Sorry another tangent. The taste of the pop-tarts is ok. Since most have little amount of the frosting. Also some seem like the middle filling is smaller/ less. You get a lot of the crust (edges). Some the flavors the crust can be kinda dry, or kinda bland (cause eating a pop-tart you obviously expect a fairly sweet product).Last issue. Tend to also get a bunch of broken pop-tarts. Which may cause disappointment. When expect an intact product to open the silver foil to broken bits. A few may just have 1 break so not extremely horrible to ruin your day. But most likely will get ones that are badly broken usually it's one ½ the pop-tart. When this happens then you won't get that dopamine of opening a satisfactory food item.Anyway. Planning to conduct an experiment On the Pop-tart brand products. The normal single box VS the bulk box. May add in a generic brand of simplar flavor to compare as well. It may be a bit. Since just bought 2 of these bulk boxes. And need ensure my budget covers rest month. Will update/ Upload pictures once complete. Now I'm going to check the prices. And evaluate if purchasing in the bulk box is the best price. Or perhaps it may not be.Thanks anyone whom may read all this. Apologies for my rambling tangents. Stay home a lot. So don't get to talk to other people. Of course my kids not gonna talk to me.Ok Bye!!
I'm a little bummed at how this recipe went. The dough was frustrating to work with and kept sticking to everything it touched despite dusting with flour- I guess because it's hot out. That's no fault of KAF, but just a warning to anyone else trying this in a warmer climate or new to pastry. Then I found that even though I didn't quite reach 11x13 for the rectangles, the amount of icing at the end was just not enough to cover the surface like the photo shows. I stopped to make more but by the time I did that I couldn't get the whole thing smooth, so between that and how strangely pale the icing was it looks really rough. Finally the taste doesn't remind me of a poptart at all, and I found the filling dry. Maybe if I didn't have the expectation it would taste like a ... MoreI'm a little bummed at how this recipe went. As shortbread with icing on top, it's fine, as a giant poptart, it's a no unfortunately.
This was absolutely fantastic! It was easy to make - the pie crust was easy to work with and tasted great! The filling spot on! I surprised my family with this and you should have seen their faces - it looked great and tasted great. A winner! Now if you would please make a copycat of the other pop tart flavors - starting with the chocolate one - I would be heaven! Could this be the recipe of year for 2025?!
I looked at this recipe and was torn -giant pop tart, yes! - wow, a lot of steps, hmmm? Actually, just follow exactly as written and it comes out perfect. The dough, once chilled for 20 minutes, rolls ot beautifully. The filling and icing are very easy. I did it all in my stand mixer, just cleaning the bowl between parts. And who doesnt need a pop tart that's even too big for a toaster oven? Fun recipe!
