These are my new favorite colored pencils. The colors are super vibrant, creamy and blendable. You can also really play with the intensity of the color by varying your pressure. I love that the pencils come in 3 trays (that stack for sleek storage!) but it's so nice to be able to lay out all my colors in front of me while I'm creating. I've done quite a bit of coloring with these already, but they still look like new and I don't think I'll need to sharpen them anytime soon- so these are going to be a really long lasting set which is a huge plus!

As I have not found a way to edit my previous review, I am simply adding a new one and suggesting this be considered as a continuation. Having had the pencils for over 2 months, my opinion as to the quality remains unchanged. Not a single pencil has broken or chipped while using even when applying higher pressure which is typically from my end only done when I need a crisp straight line in detail work. The pencil when applied in layers lightly seems to really go far between the times you need to sharpen it.While I would add more colors because I am spoiled at this juncture, I have been able to successfully get the color result I am aiming for by layer. I have found that practicing the order the colors are laid down makes more difference than I would have thought, so while red and yellow should always end up with orange, the look is very different when yellow used over red versus red used over yellow. This really shouldn't have surprised me and speaks more to my inexperience. Actually having fewer color choices has resulted in a better understanding of color in general.I have also done a bit more research because the Mitsubishi Pencil Company seems to offer alot of different pencils under that heading. There is the Mitsubishi pencil in the fantastic box that comes in a set of up to 100 which I wish Blick would carry in sets and in open stock. Then there are several more "student" grade sets offered. There is also a set of Polycolor which is the same number of pencils and looks to be very close to these. These pencils are part of the Uni-Posca line and I think perhaps a different company or at least one that is sold under a different company format. If you want more information on these you can go to posca.com/communities to see a couple different well none artist's works using these exclusively. There is also a Pastel set of 24 colors available. (Hint hint) Basically the web says these were designed to compliment the Uni=Posca marker line of products.

I've always been very pleased with uniball products, and these colored pencils were no exception. I immediately noticed how pigmented these are; the colors are rich and deep, and they go well beyond the regular spectrum that you associate with colored pencils. I was able to achieve extremely saturated colors with ease. They go on cleanly, and the nib seems very durable. I have no trouble applying a lot of pressure to achieve the colors that I'm looking for. The colored pencils are also very comfortable to hold. I am currently using them as regular colored pencils, but I'm excited to explore how they work with an oil medium in the future. These are a great find, and I highly recommend them as a go-to colored pencil for all levels of artists.

As these were reduced and my experience with Japanese pencils (Tombow & Holbein) has been positive, I was happy to give them a try. As I have become more experienced, I have found that a company providing open stock is a very important consideration. As I seem to use the same colors far more than others, having to purchase a pencil only in a set is a true waste of money. There will always be colors that are rarely used and others which you use regularly. If you love the pencil you should be able to purchase the color you have worn down to the nub!I received the six purchased open stock in the colors I thought I would use most often (white, ivory, light ochre, light pink, ochre, ash brown) and have used them for a couple weeks. I find they feel a lot like the Faber Polychromos. I can't decide why I like them a bit better. It is just the overall feel, somewhat smoother and softer. Of the colors I have so far tried there are none which have a scratchy or hard feel. They keep a point very well which given how soft they felt surprised me. They are definitely softer than the Tombows which I think feel a lot like the Verithins. They are not as soft as the Holbeins. Because the Holbeins are so expensive and not available in open stock in the US, I purchased the 50 piece pastel set and won't be buying again unless they become available in the US market. In any event these hold a point far better than the Holbeins. It seems that Japanese pencil companies do a fabulous job with packaging and appearance. These are a bit more "fun" looking for such a serious artist pencil! While I am not an "artist" by any means, I found that once you use a really good pencil it makes the others look really bad.I blended the ones I have and they blend really well. I was able to put down a bunch of layers too which for my purposes was important.I hope you try these and then buy them because I want Blick to continue carrying them!
I saw that another artist used this product when she drew on rocks & paper and the colors seemed so vibrant. I want vibrancy in my sketches so I ordered these pencils. Given this is a recent purchase, I have not used the pencils as much as I hope to , but so far they are great. I love the color intensity and creaminess of the core. I really wish the package had English translation which would likely assist me in a more expanded use of these pencils.
I’ve been searching for a quality color pencil set for my family to use on coloring books. I tried a different popular set that came in a tin that turned out to be a flop so I didn’t know what to expect with this set but these are so good!! The sale price was amazing and I wished I purchased two sets! The pigment is great and there is a wide range of colors but not too wide to the point where the kids get confused as to which brown to use. The case is travel friendly and keep the pencils neat. Also it is made in Japan. The only small negative is that it was sent in a thin bubble mailer with no other padding. None of the pencils were broken so that really shows how strong these pencils are.
I first ordered red, blue, green and white to test them out. Awesome pencils.Still waiting for a good sale to get the full set, and wish it was bigger.Recently ordered from DB and bought $47. of single pencils. Packaged with great care!(so got free shipping and handling:)I bought 2 more White Posca pencils. They are so creamy, using them to highlight my coloring pages andother art work.#sweepstakes
I've never written with colored pencils quite like these. The colors — all 36 of them — glide out of the pencil to create a smooth line on your paper. The waxy texture of the color also responds to the pressure you apply, allowing you to create soft strokes or deep, rich lines of color. That feature right there gives you so much creative freedom when creating with these colored pencils, and I've just never had that result with other colored pencils I've tried. Because of how you're able to control the amount of color put down on the page, these colored pencils are great for blending. Right away, I had tons of fun creating an ombre effect with my lettering. Another great feature of these colored pencils is the case. They come neatly laid out in three stackable trays. ... MoreI've never written with colored pencils quite like these. The trays then all come apart, letting you lay them all out and see all the colors at once in an organized way. It made it so much easier to create and put them away. It also doesn't hurt that the sleek black barrels are aesthetically pleasing. The whole barrel is black, beside the end cap of each one that designates the color. If you're looking to invest in colored pencils that will serve you well for all your artist projects, I definitely recommend these. My two-year-old daughter even loves them, and she loved stacking them back up in the tray. If that's not a win, I don't know what is. Another great feature of these colored pencils is the case. I loved these colored pencils. They exceeded my expectations. I love the soft touch base and as you color you notice the velvety smoothness of it; and it blends so well. Would definitely recommend this to other people.
This is an amazing colored pencil (which is oil based.) It has wonderful blending capabilities and creates vibrant color fields either in a solid color or blended with other colors. It is somewhat compatible with waxed based colored pencils like prismacolor pencils, using the Uni-Posca pencil on the top layers. We have used some creative techniques at times by applying a small amount of heat from a heat gun to get a blended effect. Also, we have used a sanding technique with either a fine grit sanding paper or a colored pencil eraser that has grit in it.
