Overall have been enjoying this game despite it's flaws.Pros:- Playtime wise, it's longer than I expected it to be.- Smooth flow when it comes to combat.- Some clever puzzle designs.- Boss fights are pretty epic.- Music is good to great, especially with headphones on. Some of the tunes live rent free in my head after I shut the game down.- Assuming you have internet, you can upload your save to Ubisoft's cloud save itself (as well as Nintendo's online service via paid NSO service) and easily access in the main menu vs going through the Switch's menu and searching for your cloud save.Cons:- The game occasionally lags a little. My character never took damage or died nor did I miss a jump because of the lag, but it pops ever so often.- Transition between rooms sometimes takes a second or two to load.- One on one combat is fine but can feel a little unfair when there's 3 to 4 enemies coming at you at once.- Some traversal puzzles are unfair as there are moments where your character will die because you couldn't see if your jump, your dash, etc will result in you falling onto instant death spikes. (Barring being very low on health to the point where your next death will result in a game over, you'll respawn relatively close to where you died.) Although you can move the camera up/down/left/right/diagonally via right stick, it doesn't go far enough to see if your character will land safely or not. Your field of vision feels limited too during these scenarios.Despite it's cons, I still recommend this game. It's a solid 85/100.

I will start off by saying that I don't feels its graphics are overly impressive. That's not to say I feel they are terrible and maybe I just prefer pixel art style but they do come off as playstation 2 era to me. Thats not a bad thing but something that just sticks out to me. With that being said this is a great metroidvania style of game. You have 2 modes to choose from, you have easy where they hold your hand a bit and tell you where to go or you can choose the harder mode where you have to look for your next steps on your own. This is a great option for those who are just dipping their toes into the genre or the hardcore vet. I am only about halfway through the game but I highly recommend this game especially for those who just want more metroidvania!

This game was very buggy upon release. There were multiple trophies / quests that you could not finish and running between areas would cause the game to freeze on a regular basis. They released a patch which has significantly improved the gameplay. This game is much easier and forgiving, but it plays very similarly to hollow knight. The mechanics, amulets, upgrades, and even a few boss fights are almost identical. With the new patch, I would highly recommend this game. It's very entertaining and the ability to scale the difficulty levels means anyone can find a setting they enjoy. If you aren't used to 2D style games, it take a a bit to get used to, but it's definitely worth it

The series actually started off as a 2D platformer and this game shows us that the gameplay style for 2D games isn't anywhere near dead. The gameplay is a great mix of platforming, puzzle solving and action combat and thankfully unlike the new Ubisoft games that came or are coming out the game is still on the disc. Also looks like Ubisoft is trying to save face as all their games are on sale and getting this game for $25 was definitely a no brainer. Also while it seems it's going the way that Immortal Fenyx Rising did both games should not be overlooked and gamers should get them both before it's too late.
No, I’m not done with the game. However, even if it ended right this second, I’d still put this alongside any of the best games from the prior year (Zelda, Baldurs Gate, Alan Wake 2, etc). The combat is easy to pick up yet has just enough intricacy to keep it engaging. It feels as fast, fun, and fluid as a game like Hades. Similar to a From Software game, you will visit bonfires, learn enemy attack patterns, and fight epic bosses. Additionally, there are some great quality of life adjustments made to the Metroidvania formula, such as the simple yet so appreciated ability to add screenshots to the map to remind you of why an area is important. Lastly, the platforming is perfect, which checks out given this is from the developers of Rayman Legends. So, what do you get ... MoreNo, I’m not done with the game. You get this amazing amalgamation of Hades and Dark Souls and Metroid Dread and Ori and the Will of the Wisps all combined into one game. Oh, and I havent even mentioned the wonderful art direction, which far exceeded my exoectations based on the previews and trailers. It looks much better in-person an an OLED Switch. Dont wait for a sale. Support the devs and buy this at full price. We need more games like this.
This game is excellent and will probably end up being a sleeper hit, but it really deserves more recognition for just how solid the gameplay is and how well they reimagined the Prince of Persia franchise. This game is like the culmination of the past decade+ of gaming, in that there are Souls-like elements (bonfires, respawning enemies, tough combat, interlinking areas) on top of the classic-style sidescrolling platforming found in the original Prince of Persia or Symphony of the Night or any Metroid-vania type game. The platforming really surprised me as controlling Sargon feels good all around, but anyone familiar with the wall jumps from Sands of Time will instantly recognize that tactile feel of soaring in the air and timing your jumps with your weight hitting ... MoreThis game is excellent and will probably end up being a sleeper hit, but it really deserves more recognition for just how solid the gameplay is and how well they reimagined the Prince of Persia franchise. The platforming really surprised me as controlling Sargon feels good all around, but anyone familiar with the wall jumps from Sands of Time will instantly recognize that tactile feel of soaring in the air and timing your jumps with your weight hitting the wall. It demonstrates to me that the team was incredibly thoughtful and respectful to the franchise and they should really be proud of making something that I feel stands alongside and maybe even surpasses its previous incarnations.Man it’s an excellent game, at least buy it on sale if your even thinking about it a little bit, at least to encourage more of this level of quality in games.
I very much enjoyed the original Price of Persia all those decades ago, and I had fun with the reboot trilogy (which started with Sands of Time) back on the OG Xbox. I haven't paid attention to anything related to this franchise since then.I picked this up on sale and found a fun and challenging Metroidvania that looks amazing on my OLED Switch's screen. The combat is punishing but rewarding. The puzzles so far have been on the easy side, but I suspect that'll change soon.My poor Switch hasn't been getting the love it deserves lately, but this game will change that.
This could be a sleeper game of the year for 2024. One of the great Metroidvanias. Felt like this came out of no where and delivered an epic experience. It includes everything you'd want from a Metroidvania type of game - exploration, scope, combat, deep mechanics. This game is a chonky boy! The map is huge, and with the difficulty turned up, it's going to take you a while to fight past certain sections, and especially bosses. If you're into these type of games, e.g., Ori, Hallow Knight, Metroid Dread - then this is a no brainer.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown brings together that classic blend of metroidvania action and exploration in new and interesting ways. The game is not afraid to switch between platforming, puzzle solving and combat at the drop of a hat and does each very well. The map is broad and interconnected similar to Hollow Knight but not as overwhelming. This makes traversal and exploration easy with minimal unnecessary backtracking. There have been a few bugs in the game that I've found, but today's patch release fixes a number of them and Unisoft seem to be aware of more that are being addresses. If you like action / adventure games in the vein of Metroid: Dread and Hollow Knight, PoP sits firmly between the two in scale and difficulty. You won't be disappointed.
