Prismacolor Premier Coloured Pencils feature a thick, soft core made from brilliant, light-resistant pigments, to ensure smooth, rich laydown and colour saturation. The colours are easily blended, slow to wear, break-resistant, and waterproof. Each 3.8 mm core is enclosed in a round cedar casing that is lacquered to match the core. They’re vivid and intense in one stroke and subtle and soft in the next, making them perfect for any project, big or small. Smooth coverage and a wide array of colors to choose from make it easy to find a soft spot for these premium pencils. Manual sharpening is recommended for these pencils. Clogging can be prevented in electric sharpeners by periodically sharpening a graphite pencil to keep the blades clean.

My first ever color pencils I bought were Prismacolor’s Premier Pencils, and I never regretted this decision! These pencils are so easy to use, easy to blend with, and easy to FALL IN LOVE WITH! It’s because of these pencils that I began my portrait art journey. Heck, I’ve used these pencils so many times, if you showed me a random color, I’d be able to name it with a Premier pencil! I’ve never seen a color pencil brand offer so many colors, some I never even knew existed! I’ve been drawing portraits for 6 years now, and I’ve got no one else but Prismacolor to thank for this incredible journey! I was a total beginner when I started using these pencils and now I’ve grown so much. Be warned: buying these pencils may turn you into a professional artist!

Ever since I started using Prismacolor colored pencils I can’t go back to anything else. These are smooth like butter on paper and so pigmented. They blend so well together and with other products to create amazing mixed media pieces. I am a college student majoring in art and these pencils are all I use for my projects. I let my sister try them out and she literally said “wow” when she put them to paper. Overall this product and many other Prismacolor products are unmatched to any other brand.

I use Prismacolor Soft Core Colored Pencils for pretty much all of my artwork. These colored pencils are by far better than any other brand that I have ever used. They provide a smooth blend and can also provide the fine detail I need in my pieces. These pencils hold up for a long time. The singles are also perfect for simply replacing my most used colors within my larger set collections. These pencils are great for committed beginners or professionals. I will forever be a Prismacolor colored pencil user!

I've always been primarily a graphite artist. Then, one day, my husband said, "I think it's time you tried color." One of the first obstacles I encountered when going from graphite to colored pencil was blendability. With graphite, all you have to do is smudge the graphite a bit with a finger or a blending stump, and within seconds, I'd have the look I was going for. The process of blending with colored pencils is more complicated; and involves layering colors and burnishing, using a blending pencil, or using solvents. It took a lot of trial and error to find a blending method that worked for me, and, what it came down to, was finding the right pencils. I started adding color to my drawings with bargain pencils, but, would often end up with patchy results. Then, I ... MoreI've always been primarily a graphite artist. They offer a wider color range than the bargain priced pencils I used, their cores are more pigmented, and
I purchased a prismacolor premiere 72 colored pencil set after a few months of drawing. LIFE. CHANGING. I never went back or tried any other brand. As I continued with commissions I would run out of certain colors but didn’t need to repurchased the whole 72 set because I could find a variety of single pencils at a local store! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve purchased single pencils to refill my stash, but I am so thankful I was able to find them. Recently I did need to purchase the 72 pack again for backups and many colors I was quickly running out of, but finding those single pencils saved me time and time again.
I am an artist and middle school art teacher. I have been using Prismacolor colored pencils since I was a student and absolutely love them! The quality of the product really elevates each work produced with them. As a teacher, I love introducing these pencils to my students. They make it easier for students to learn how to blend and mix colors as well as shade with colored pencils. They are superior to many other brands in how they can be used and how they look on paper. My students never want to use any other colored pencils after having used the Prismas! Their work always turns out amazing thanks to the skills they can execute with this product.
I have purchased 2 of the 150 pencil sets, countless smaller sets, prismacolor graphite sets, prisma sharpeners and erasers, blenders, etc etc. I always buy the color pencil singles to replace pencils that I use up to keep my sets complete. I do notice subtle differences in shades sometimes of the exact same color when using a new pencil, but nothing very noticeable if you know how to adjust pressure and move around the paper to disperse the changes, hiding them in shadow effects and highlights. Buying multiple of the same color pencil that you know you will need for a certain piece can help out also. Just buy them all a once from the same vendor so it will be a better chance of them being made from the same batch released from the factory. Just buy them all a once from the same vendor so it will be a better chance of them being made from the same batch released from the factory. As for the quality, I have had my fair share of bad prismacolor pencils with major breakages like cores were shattered internally. But I would bet this is the fault of shipping and retailers tossing boxes around and dropping them on the ground. If you drop a prismacolor pencil on the ground, it’s probably ruined. The cores break very easy. However, the quality you get from using prisma, makes up for their fragile cores. Are there better color pencils than prisma? Well, let me explain it like this. There may be a color pencil that has something better than prisma, but on the other side of that knife, prisma has something that they don’t. Anybody that says one certain brand of color pencil is the best, is only fooling their self. But I will say, prismacolor is an all around great pencil that I always recommend to all people, not just artist, but the everyday commoner also. Listen, I could sit here and church up how prisma is the greatest of all times, but I think people would rather know the truth. They aren’t the greatest but they are great, and definitely worthy of being on a list of top brands. I will continue to buy and recommend them as long as they continue to keep the quality they have. I do wish the price was more affordable, not only for me, but also for the people I try to push into the prisma world. The average person sees the price and closes the book on trying them out. I understand that other top brands are even more expensive, but to the normal buyer, even prisma is out of reach for most people. However, the ones that do jump in, never go back to a cheap color pencil ever again. I’m refusing to name drop on high end and low end brands here, because this review is about prismacolor pencils only, and an honest opinion about “them” is what people should hear. If you have never used them before and you are a budding artist, new to the game, or maybe you know somebody that could use a nice set to up their skills, You should definitely give prismacolor a shot.
So, I bought several Prismacolor coloring pencils but a few of them were not what I wanted. Not to sound like a "Karen," but i wanted Light Aqua but I got aquamarine. I wanted Deco Pink but I got light peach. I wanted Pumpkin Orange but I just got orange.I'd return them but it's too much of a hassle. I'm happy I got aquamarine because I wanted that one anyway. The shade of orange is extremely vibrant and pretty so I'll keep that one. Light peach though......I'm not too happy about at all but I guess I'll use it. Couldn't she or he have given me any other shade of pink? Whatever. I'm sure the person handling my order had a lot of orders coming in or whatever. So, I can't be too harsh. Still though any other shade of pink would have made my day!The light peach ... MoreSo, I bought several Prismacolor coloring pencils but a few of them were not what I wanted. I rather take the social anxiety than receive items that I didn't pay for and makes me feel like an idiot (Like they were saying "Oh! She won't notice the difference!") the next day.
While shopping with my daughter I had an eye opening experience with this product. This was the pencil that ignited my interest in Prismacolor® pencils I explained to her that we had plenty of colored pencils at home. She was like "Trust me. Those are not the same." For a moment I had that passing thought of how I have unintentionally spoiled my child. Then she had me try out the pencil. We purchased a set of pencils but I forewarned her that we may have to return the pencils the following week. We sat down to draw together later that day. Oh my!!! I was shocked at the difference it made and how much I enjoyed drawing. I love these pencils so much that I purchased two sets for the class I will be leading in the Fall.
I’ve had so many brands of colored pencils, two of the most popular that I’ve had are Master’s Touch, and Caran D’Ache. Keep in mind that Caran is the worlds most expensive colored pencil brand. But Prismacolor out does them all! I’ve never see pencils blend so well, not to mention the color itself is very vibrant and beautiful! Which are two things that you don’t see often with colored pencils. I truly have yet to see a better brand, and will continue to use prismacolored pencils through the rest of my art career! I highly recommend buying them, they are worth every cent!
